1  And it came to pass,¹⁹⁶¹ when⁸³⁴ Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ was returned⁷⁷²⁵ from following^{4480 310} the Philistines,⁶⁴³⁰ that it was told⁵⁰⁴⁶ him, saying,⁵⁵⁹ Behold,²⁰⁰⁹ David¹⁷³² is in the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ of En-gedi.⁵⁸⁷²

2  Then Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ took³⁹⁴⁷ three⁷⁹⁶⁹ thousand⁵⁰⁵ chosen⁹⁷⁷ men³⁷⁶ out of all^{4480 3605} Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ and went¹⁹⁸⁰ to seek^{1245 853} David¹⁷³² and his men³⁷⁶ upon^{592 6440} the rocks⁶⁶⁹⁷ of the wild goats.³²⁷⁷

3  And he came⁹³⁵ to⁴¹³ the sheepcotes^{1448 6629} by⁵⁹²¹ the way,¹⁸⁷⁰ where⁸⁰³³ was a cave;⁴⁶³¹ and Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ went in⁹³⁵ to cover^{5526 853} his feet:⁷²⁷² and David¹⁷³² and his men³⁷⁶ remained³⁴²⁷ in the sides³⁴¹¹ of the cave.⁴⁶³¹

4  And the men³⁷⁶ of David¹⁷³² said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Behold²⁰⁰⁹ the day³¹¹⁷ of which⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ thee, Behold,²⁰⁰⁹ I⁵⁹⁵ will deliver^{5414 853} thine enemy³⁴¹ into thine hand,³⁰²⁷ that thou mayest do⁶²¹³ to him as⁸³⁴ it shall seem good^{3190 5869} unto thee. Then David¹⁷³² arose,⁶⁹⁶⁵ and cut off^{3772 853} the skirt³⁶⁷¹ of Saul's⁷⁵⁸⁶ robe⁴⁵⁹⁸ privily.³⁹⁰⁹

5  And it came to pass¹⁹⁶¹ afterward,^{310 3651} that David's¹⁷³² heart³⁸²⁰ smote⁵²²¹ him, because^{5921 834} he had cut off^{3772 853} Saul's⁷⁵⁸⁶ skirt.³⁶⁷¹

6  And he said⁵⁵⁹ unto his men,³⁷⁶ The LORD^{4480 3068} forbid²⁴⁸⁶ that⁵¹⁸ I should do^{6213 853} this²⁰⁸⁸ thing¹⁶⁹⁷ unto my master,¹¹³ the LORD's³⁰⁶⁸ anointed,⁴⁸⁹⁹ to stretch forth⁷⁹⁷¹ mine hand³⁰²⁷ against him, seeing³⁵⁸⁸ he¹⁹³¹ is the anointed⁴⁸⁹⁹ of the LORD.³⁰⁶⁸

7  So David¹⁷³² stayed^{8156 853} his servants³⁷⁶ with these words,¹⁶⁹⁷ and suffered⁵⁴¹⁴ them not³⁸⁰⁸ to rise⁶⁹⁶⁵ against⁴¹³ Saul.⁷⁵⁸⁶ But Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ rose up⁶⁹⁶⁵ out of the cave,^{4480 4631} and went¹⁹⁸⁰ on his way.¹⁸⁷⁰

8  David¹⁷³² also arose⁶⁹⁶⁵ afterward,^{310 3651} and went out³³¹⁸ of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the cave,⁴⁶³¹ and cried⁷¹²¹ after³¹⁰ Saul,⁷⁵⁸⁶ saying,⁵⁵⁹ My lord¹¹³ the king.⁴⁴²⁸ And when Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ looked⁵⁰²⁷ behind³¹⁰ him, David¹⁷³² stooped⁶⁹¹⁵ with his face⁶³⁹ to the earth,⁷⁷⁶ and bowed himself.⁷⁸¹²

9  And David¹⁷³² said⁵⁵⁹ to Saul,⁷⁵⁸⁶ Wherefore⁴¹⁰⁰ hearest⁸⁰⁸⁵ thou ⁸⁵³ men's¹²⁰ words,¹⁶⁹⁷ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Behold,²⁰⁰⁹ David¹⁷³² seeketh¹²⁴⁵ thy hurt?⁷⁴⁵¹

10  Behold,²⁰⁰⁹ this²⁰⁸⁸ day³¹¹⁷ thine eyes⁵⁸⁶⁹ have seen^{7200 853} how⁸³⁴ that the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ had delivered⁵⁴¹⁴ thee today³¹¹⁷ into mine hand³⁰²⁷ in the cave:⁴⁶³¹ and some bade⁵⁵⁹ me kill²⁰²⁶ thee: but mine eye spared^{2347 5921} thee; and I said,⁵⁵⁹ I will not³⁸⁰⁸ put forth⁷⁹⁷¹ mine hand³⁰²⁷ against my lord;¹¹³ for³⁵⁸⁸ he¹⁹³¹ is the LORD's³⁰⁶⁸ anointed.⁴⁸⁹⁹

11  Moreover, my father,¹ see,⁷²⁰⁰ yea,¹⁵⁷¹ see^{7200 853} the skirt³⁶⁷¹ of thy robe⁴⁵⁹⁸ in my hand:³⁰²⁷ for³⁵⁸⁸ in that I cut off^{3772 853} the skirt³⁶⁷¹ of thy robe,⁴⁵⁹⁸ and killed²⁰²⁶ thee not,³⁸⁰⁸ know³⁰⁴⁵ thou and see⁷²⁰⁰ that³⁵⁸⁸ there is neither³⁶⁹ evil⁷⁴⁵¹ nor transgression⁶⁵⁸⁸ in mine hand,³⁰²⁷ and I have not³⁸⁰⁸ sinned²³⁹⁸ against thee; yet thou⁸⁵⁹ huntest^{6658 853} my soul⁵³¹⁵ to take³⁹⁴⁷ it.

12  The LORD³⁰⁶⁸ judge⁸¹⁹⁹ between⁹⁹⁶ me and thee, and the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ avenge⁵³⁵⁸ me of⁴⁴⁸⁰ thee: but mine hand³⁰²⁷ shall not³⁸⁰⁸ be¹⁹⁶¹ upon thee.

13  As⁸³⁴ saith⁵⁵⁹ the proverb⁴⁹¹² of the ancients,⁶⁹³¹ Wickedness⁷⁵⁶² proceedeth³³¹⁸ from the wicked:^{4480 7563} but mine hand³⁰²⁷ shall not³⁸⁰⁸ be¹⁹⁶¹ upon thee.

14  After³¹⁰ whom⁴³¹⁰ is the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ come out?³³¹⁸ after³¹⁰ whom⁴³¹⁰ dost thou⁸⁵⁹ pursue?⁷²⁹¹ after³¹⁰ a dead⁴¹⁹¹ dog,³⁶¹¹ after³¹⁰ a²⁵⁹ flea.⁶⁵⁵⁰

15  The LORD³⁰⁶⁸ therefore be¹⁹⁶¹ judge,¹⁷⁸¹ and judge⁸¹⁹⁹ between⁹⁹⁶ me and thee, and see,⁷²⁰⁰ and plead^{7378 853} my cause,⁷³⁷⁹ and deliver⁸¹⁹⁹ me out of thine hand.^{4480 3027}

16  And it came to pass,¹⁹⁶¹ when David¹⁷³² had made an end³⁶¹⁵ of speaking^{1696 853} these⁴²⁸ words¹⁶⁹⁷ unto⁴¹³ Saul,⁷⁵⁸⁶ that Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ said,⁵⁵⁹ Is this²⁰⁸⁸ thy voice,⁶⁹⁶³ my son¹¹²¹ David?¹⁷³² And Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ lifted up⁵³⁷⁵ his voice,⁶⁹⁶³ and wept.¹⁰⁵⁸

17  And he said⁵⁵⁹ to⁴¹³ David,¹⁷³² Thou⁸⁵⁹ art more righteous⁶⁶⁶² than⁴⁴⁸⁰ I: for³⁵⁸⁸ thou⁸⁵⁹ hast rewarded¹⁵⁸⁰ me good,²⁸⁹⁶ whereas I⁵⁸⁹ have rewarded¹⁵⁸⁰ thee evil.⁷⁴⁵¹

18  And thou⁸⁵⁹ hast showed⁵⁰⁴⁶ this day^{3117 853} how that⁸³⁴ thou hast dealt⁶²¹³ well²⁸⁹⁶ with⁸⁵⁴ me: ⁸⁵³ forasmuch as when⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ had delivered⁵⁴⁶² me into thine hand,³⁰²⁷ thou killedst²⁰²⁶ me not.³⁸⁰⁸

19  For if³⁵⁸⁸ a man³⁷⁶ find^{4672 853} his enemy,³⁴¹ will he let him go⁷⁹⁷¹ well²⁸⁹⁶ away?¹⁸⁷⁰ wherefore the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ reward⁷⁹⁹⁹ thee good²⁸⁹⁶ for⁸⁴⁷⁸ that⁸³⁴ thou hast done⁶²¹³ unto me this²⁰⁸⁸ day.³¹¹⁷

20  And now,⁶²⁵⁸ behold,²⁰⁰⁹ I know well³⁰⁴⁵ that³⁵⁸⁸ thou shalt surely be king,^{4427 4427} and that the kingdom⁴⁴⁶⁷ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ shall be established⁶⁹⁶⁵ in thine hand.³⁰²⁷

21  Swear⁷⁶⁵⁰ now⁶²⁵⁸ therefore unto me by the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ that⁵¹⁸ thou wilt not cut off^{3772 853} my seed²²³³ after³¹⁰ me, and that⁵¹⁸ thou wilt not destroy^{8045 853} my name⁸⁰³⁴ out of my father's house.^{4480 1004 1}

22  And David¹⁷³² swore⁷⁶⁵⁰ unto Saul.⁷⁵⁸⁶ And Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ went^{1980 413} home;¹⁰⁰⁴ but David¹⁷³² and his men³⁷⁶ got them up⁵⁹²⁷ unto⁵⁹²¹ the hold.⁴⁶⁸⁶

1 καὶ ἀνέβη Δαυιδ ἐκεῖθεν καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐν τοῖς στενοῖς Εγγαδδι

2 καὶ ἐγενήθη ὡς ἀνέστρεψεν Σαουλ ἀπὸ ὄπισθεν τῶν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ ἀπηγγέλη αὐτῷ λεγόντων ὅτι Δαυιδ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ Εγγαδδι

3 καὶ ἔλαβεν μεθ᾽ ἑαυτοῦ τρεῖς χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν ἐκλεκτοὺς ἐκ παντὸς Ισραηλ καὶ ἐπορεύθη ζητεῖν τὸν Δαυιδ καὶ τοὺς ἄνδρας αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον Σαδαιεμ

4 καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς τὰς ἀγέλας τῶν ποιμνίων τὰς ἐπὶ τῆς ὁδοῦ καὶ ἦν ἐκεῖ σπήλαιον καὶ Σαουλ εἰσῆλθεν παρασκευάσασθαι καὶ Δαυιδ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ ἐσώτερον τοῦ σπηλαίου ἐκάθηντο

5 καὶ εἶπον οἱ ἄνδρες Δαυιδ πρὸς αὐτόν ἰδοὺ ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη ἣν εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς σὲ παραδοῦναι τὸν ἐχθρόν σου εἰς τὰς χεῖράς σου καὶ ποιήσεις αὐτῷ ὡς ἀγαθὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυιδ καὶ ἀφεῖλεν τὸ πτερύγιον τῆς διπλοΐδος τῆς Σαουλ λαθραίως

6 καὶ ἐγενήθη μετὰ ταῦτα καὶ ἐπάταξεν καρδία Δαυιδ αὐτόν ὅτι ἀφεῖλεν τὸ πτερύγιον τῆς διπλοΐδος αὐτοῦ

7 καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς τοὺς ἄνδρας αὐτοῦ μηδαμῶς μοι παρὰ κυρίου εἰ ποιήσω τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο τῷ κυρίῳ μου τῷ χριστῷ κυρίου ἐπενέγκαι χεῖρά μου ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν ὅτι χριστὸς κυρίου ἐστὶν οὗτος

8 καὶ ἔπεισεν Δαυιδ τοὺς ἄνδρας αὐτοῦ ἐν λόγοις καὶ οὐκ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς ἀναστάντας θανατῶσαι τὸν Σαουλ καὶ ἀνέστη Σαουλ καὶ κατέβη εἰς τὴν ὁδόν

9 καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυιδ ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ ἐκ τοῦ σπηλαίου καὶ ἐβόησεν Δαυιδ ὀπίσω Σαουλ λέγων κύριε βασιλεῦ καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν Σαουλ εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔκυψεν Δαυιδ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῷ

10 καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Σαουλ ἵνα τί ἀκούεις τῶν λόγων τοῦ λαοῦ λεγόντων ἰδοὺ Δαυιδ ζητεῖ τὴν ψυχήν σου

11 ἰδοὺ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ ἑοράκασιν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ὡς παρέδωκέν σε κύριος σήμερον εἰς χεῖρά μου ἐν τῷ σπηλαίῳ καὶ οὐκ ἠβουλήθην ἀποκτεῖναί σε καὶ ἐφεισάμην σου καὶ εἶπα οὐκ ἐποίσω χεῖρά μου ἐπὶ κύριόν μου ὅτι χριστὸς κυρίου οὗτός ἐστιν

12 καὶ ἰδοὺ τὸ πτερύγιον τῆς διπλοΐδος σου ἐν τῇ χειρί μου ἐγὼ ἀφῄρηκα τὸ πτερύγιον καὶ οὐκ ἀπέκταγκά σε καὶ γνῶθι καὶ ἰδὲ σήμερον ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν κακία ἐν τῇ χειρί μου οὐδὲ ἀσέβεια καὶ ἀθέτησις καὶ οὐχ ἡμάρτηκα εἰς σέ καὶ σὺ δεσμεύεις τὴν ψυχήν μου λαβεῖν αὐτήν

13 δικάσαι κύριος ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ καὶ ἐκδικήσαι με κύριος ἐκ σοῦ καὶ ἡ χείρ μου οὐκ ἔσται ἐπὶ σοί

14 καθὼς λέγεται ἡ παραβολὴ ἡ ἀρχαία ἐξ ἀνόμων ἐξελεύσεται πλημμέλεια καὶ ἡ χείρ μου οὐκ ἔσται ἐπὶ σέ

15 καὶ νῦν ὀπίσω τίνος σὺ ἐκπορεύῃ βασιλεῦ Ισραηλ ὀπίσω τίνος καταδιώκεις σύ ὀπίσω κυνὸς τεθνηκότος καὶ ὀπίσω ψύλλου ἑνός

16 γένοιτο κύριος εἰς κριτὴν καὶ δικαστὴν ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον σοῦ ἴδοι κύριος καὶ κρίναι τὴν κρίσιν μου καὶ δικάσαι μοι ἐκ χειρός σου

17 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς συνετέλεσεν Δαυιδ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα λαλῶν πρὸς Σαουλ καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ ἦ φωνή σου αὕτη τέκνον Δαυιδ καὶ ἦρεν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτοῦ Σαουλ καὶ ἔκλαυσεν

18 καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ πρὸς Δαυιδ δίκαιος σὺ ὑπὲρ ἐμέ ὅτι σὺ ἀνταπέδωκάς μοι ἀγαθά ἐγὼ δὲ ἀνταπέδωκά σοι κακά

19 καὶ σὺ ἀπήγγειλάς μοι σήμερον ἃ ἐποίησάς μοι ἀγαθά ὡς ἀπέκλεισέν με κύριος σήμερον εἰς χεῖράς σου καὶ οὐκ ἀπέκτεινάς με

20 καὶ ὅτι εἰ εὕροιτό τις τὸν ἐχθρὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν θλίψει καὶ ἐκπέμψαι αὐτὸν ἐν ὁδῷ ἀγαθῇ καὶ κύριος ἀνταποτείσει αὐτῷ ἀγαθά καθὼς πεποίηκας σήμερον

21 καὶ νῦν ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ γινώσκω ὅτι βασιλεύων βασιλεύσεις καὶ στήσεται ἐν χερσίν σου βασιλεία Ισραηλ

22 καὶ νῦν ὄμοσόν μοι ἐν κυρίῳ ὅτι οὐκ ἐξολεθρεύσεις τὸ σπέρμα μου ὀπίσω μου καὶ οὐκ ἀφανιεῖς τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός μου

23 καὶ ὤμοσεν Δαυιδ τῷ Σαουλ καὶ ἀπῆλθεν Σαουλ εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτοῦ καὶ Δαυιδ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ ἀνέβησαν εἰς τὴν Μεσσαρα στενήν

‎1 ‏וַיַּ֥עַל דָּוִ֖ד מִשָּׁ֑ם וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב בִּמְצָד֥וֹת עֵֽין־גֶּֽדִי׃

‎2 ‏וַיְהִ֗י כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙ שָׁ֣ב שָׁא֔וּל מֵאַחֲרֵ֖י פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַיַּגִּ֤דוּ לוֹ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הִנֵּ֣ה דָוִ֔ד בְּמִדְבַּ֖ר עֵ֥ין גֶּֽדִי׃ ס

‎3 ‏וַיִּקַּ֣ח שָׁא֗וּל שְׁלֹ֧שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֛ים אִ֥ישׁ בָּח֖וּר מִכָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ לְבַקֵּ֤שׁ אֶת־דָּוִד֙ וַֽאֲנָשָׁ֔יו עַל־פְּנֵ֖י צוּרֵ֥י הַיְּעֵלִֽים׃

‎4 ‏וַ֠יָּבֹא אֶל־גִּדְר֨וֹת הַצֹּ֤אן עַל־הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ וְשָׁ֣ם מְעָרָ֔ה וַיָּבֹ֥א שָׁא֖וּל לְהָסֵ֣ךְ אֶת־רַגְלָ֑יו וְדָוִד֙ וַאֲנָשָׁ֔יו בְּיַרְכְּתֵ֥י הַמְּעָרָ֖ה יֹשְׁבִֽים׃

‎5 ‏וַיֹּאמְרוּ֩ אַנְשֵׁ֨י דָוִ֜ד אֵלָ֗יו הִנֵּ֨ה הַיּ֜וֹם אֲ‍ֽשֶׁר־אָמַ֧ר יְהוָ֣ה אֵלֶ֗יךָ הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֜י נֹתֵ֤ן אֶת־איביך אֹֽיִבְךָ֙ בְּיָדֶ֔ךָ וְעָשִׂ֣יתָ לּ֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר יִטַ֣ב בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ וַיָּ֣קָם דָּוִ֗ד וַיִּכְרֹ֛ת אֶת־כְּנַֽף־הַמְּעִ֥יל אֲשֶׁר־לְשָׁא֖וּל בַּלָּֽט׃

‎6 ‏וַֽיְהִי֙ אַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֔ן וַיַּ֥ךְ לֵב־דָּוִ֖ד אֹת֑וֹ עַ֚ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר כָּרַ֔ת אֶת־כָּנָ֖ף אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְשָׁאֽוּל׃ ס

‎7 ‏וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לַאֲנָשָׁ֜יו חָלִ֧ילָה לִּ֣י מֵֽיהוָ֗ה אִם־אֶעֱשֶׂה֩ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֨ר הַזֶּ֤ה לַֽאדֹנִי֙ לִמְשִׁ֣יחַ יְהוָ֔ה לִשְׁלֹ֥חַ יָדִ֖י בּ֑וֹ כִּֽי־מְשִׁ֥יחַ יְהוָ֖ה הֽוּא׃

‎8 ‏וַיְשַׁסַּ֨ע דָּוִ֤ד אֶת־אֲנָשָׁיו֙ בַּדְּבָרִ֔ים וְלֹ֥א נְתָנָ֖ם לָק֣וּם אֶל־שָׁא֑וּל וְשָׁא֛וּל קָ֥ם מֵהַמְּעָרָ֖ה וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃ ס

‎9 ‏וַיָּ֨קָם דָּוִ֜ד אַחֲרֵי־כֵ֗ן וַיֵּצֵא֙ מן־ המערה מֵֽהַמְּעָרָ֔ה וַיִּקְרָ֧א אַֽחֲרֵי־שָׁא֛וּל לֵאמֹ֖ר אֲדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיַּבֵּ֤ט שָׁאוּל֙ אַֽחֲרָ֔יו וַיִּקֹּ֨ד דָּוִ֥ד אַפַּ֛יִם אַ֖רְצָה וַיִּשְׁתָּֽחוּ׃ ס

‎10 ‏וַיֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ לְשָׁא֔וּל לָ֧מָּה תִשְׁמַ֛ע אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֥י אָדָ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר הִנֵּ֣ה דָוִ֔ד מְבַקֵּ֖שׁ רָעָתֶֽךָ׃

‎11 ‏הִנֵּה֩ הַיּ֨וֹם הַזֶּ֜ה רָא֣וּ עֵינֶ֗יךָ אֵ֣ת אֲשֶׁר־נְתָנְךָ֩ יְהוָ֨ה׀ הַיּ֤וֹם׀ בְּיָדִי֙ בַּמְּעָרָ֔ה וְאָמַ֥ר לַהֲרָגֲךָ֖ וַתָּ֣חָס עָלֶ֑יךָ וָאֹמַ֗ר לֹא־אֶשְׁלַ֤ח יָדִי֙ בַּֽאדֹנִ֔י כִּי־מְשִׁ֥יחַ יְהוָ֖ה הֽוּא׃

‎12 ‏וְאָבִ֣י רְאֵ֔ה גַּ֗ם רְאֵ֛ה אֶת־כְּנַ֥ף מְעִילְךָ֖ בְּיָדִ֑י כִּ֡י בְּכָרְתִי֩ אֶת־כְּנַ֨ף מְעִֽילְךָ֜ וְלֹ֣א הֲרַגְתִּ֗יךָ דַּ֤ע וּרְאֵה֙ כִּי֩ אֵ֨ין בְּיָדִ֜י רָעָ֤ה וָפֶ֙שַׁע֙ וְלֹא־חָטָ֣אתִי לָ֔ךְ וְאַתָּ֛ה צֹדֶ֥ה אֶת־נַפְשִׁ֖י לְקַחְתָּֽהּ׃

‎13 ‏יִשְׁפֹּ֤ט יְהוָה֙ בֵּינִ֣י וּבֵינֶ֔ךָ וּנְקָמַ֥נִי יְהוָ֖ה מִמֶּ֑ךָּ וְיָדִ֖י לֹ֥א תִֽהְיֶה־בָּֽךְ׃

‎14 ‏כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר יֹאמַ֗ר מְשַׁל֙ הַקַּדְמֹנִ֔י מֵרְשָׁעִ֖ים יֵ֣צֵא רֶ֑שַׁע וְיָדִ֖י לֹ֥א תִֽהְיֶה־בָּֽךְ׃

‎15 ‏אַחֲרֵ֨י מִ֤י יָצָא֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אַחֲרֵ֥י מִ֖י אַתָּ֣ה רֹדֵ֑ף אַֽחֲרֵי֙ כֶּ֣לֶב מֵ֔ת אַחֲרֵ֖י פַּרְעֹ֥שׁ אֶחָֽד׃

‎16 ‏וְהָיָ֤ה יְהוָה֙ לְדַיָּ֔ן וְשָׁפַ֖ט בֵּינִ֣י וּבֵינֶ֑ךָ וְיֵ֙רֶא֙ וְיָרֵ֣ב אֶת־רִיבִ֔י וְיִשְׁפְּטֵ֖נִי מִיָּדֶֽךָ׃ פ

‎17 ‏וַיְהִ֣י׀ כְּכַלּ֣וֹת דָּוִ֗ד לְדַבֵּ֞ר אֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֤ים הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁא֔וּל הֲקֹלְךָ֥ זֶ֖ה בְּנִ֣י דָוִ֑ד וַיִּשָּׂ֥א שָׁא֛וּל קֹל֖וֹ וַיֵּֽבְךְּ׃

‎18 ‏וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־דָּוִ֔ד צַדִּ֥יק אַתָּ֖ה מִמֶּ֑נִּי כִּ֤י אַתָּה֙ גְּמַלְתַּ֣נִי הַטּוֹבָ֔ה וַאֲנִ֖י גְּמַלְתִּ֥יךָ הָרָעָֽה׃

‎19 ‏ואת וְאַתָּה֙ הִגַּ֣דְתָּ הַיּ֔וֹם אֵ֛ת אֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂ֥יתָה אִתִּ֖י טוֹבָ֑ה אֵת֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר סִגְּרַ֧נִי יְהוָ֛ה בְּיָדְךָ֖ וְלֹ֥א הֲרַגְתָּֽנִי׃

‎20 ‏וְכִֽי־יִמְצָ֥א אִישׁ֙ אֶת־אֹ֣יְב֔וֹ וְשִׁלְּח֖וֹ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ טוֹבָ֑ה וַֽיהוָה֙ יְשַׁלֶּמְךָ֣ טוֹבָ֔ה תַּ֚חַת הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִׂ֖יתָה לִֽי׃

‎21 ‏וְעַתָּה֙ הִנֵּ֣ה יָדַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֥י מָלֹ֖ךְ תִּמְל֑וֹךְ וְקָ֙מָה֙ בְּיָ֣דְךָ֔ מַמְלֶ֖כֶת יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

‎22 ‏וְעַתָּ֗ה הִשָּׁ֤בְעָה לִּי֙ בַּֽיהוָ֔ה אִם־תַּכְרִ֥ית אֶת־זַרְעִ֖י אַֽחֲרָ֑י וְאִם־תַּשְׁמִ֥יד אֶת־שְׁמִ֖י מִבֵּ֥ית אָבִֽי׃

‎23 ‏וַיִּשָּׁבַ֥ע דָּוִ֖ד לְשָׁא֑וּל וַיֵּ֤לֶךְ שָׁאוּל֙ אֶל־בֵּית֔וֹ וְדָוִד֙ וַֽאֲנָשָׁ֔יו עָל֖וּ עַל־הַמְּצוּדָֽה׃ פ

Vul

1 Ascendit ergo David inde: et habitavit in locis tutissimis Engaddi.

2 Cumque reversus esset Saul, postquam persecutus est Philisthæos, nuntiaverunt ei, dicentes: Ecce David in deserto est Engaddi.

3 Assumens ergo Saul tria millia electorum virorum ex omni Israël, perrexit ad investigandum David et viros ejus, etiam super abruptissimas petras, quæ solis ibicibus perviæ sunt.

4 Et venit ad caulas ovium, quæ se offerebant vianti: eratque ibi spelunca, quam ingressus est Saul ut purgaret ventrem: porro David et viri ejus in interiore parte speluncæ latebant.

5 Et dixerunt servi David ad eum: Ecce dies de qua locutus est Dominus ad te: Ego tradam tibi inimicum tuum, ut facias ei sicut placuerit in oculis tuis. Surrexit ergo David, et præcidit oram chlamydis Saul silenter.

6 Post hæc percussit cor suum David, eo quod abscidisset oram chlamydis Saul.

7 Dixitque ad viros suos: Propitius sit mihi Dominus, ne faciam hanc rem domino meo, christo Domini, ut mittam manum meam in eum: quia christus Domini est.

8 Et confregit David viros suos sermonibus, et non permisit eos ut consurgerent in Saul: porro Saul exsurgens de spelunca, pergebat cœpto itinere.

9 Surrexit autem et David post eum: et egressus de spelunca, clamavit post tergum Saul, dicens: Domine mi rex. Et respexit Saul post se: et inclinans se David pronus in terram adoravit,

10 dixitque ad Saul: Quare audis verba hominum loquentium: David quærit malum adversum te?

11 Ecce hodie viderunt oculi tui quod tradiderit te Dominus in manu mea in spelunca: et cogitavi ut occiderem te, sed pepercit tibi oculus meus: dixi enim: Non extendam manum meam in dominum meum, quia christus Domini est.

12 Quin potius pater mi, vide, et cognosce oram chlamydis tuæ in manu mea: quoniam cum præscinderem summitatem chlamydis tuæ, nolui extendere manum meam in te: animadverte, et vide, quoniam non est in manu mea malum, neque iniquitas, neque peccavi in te: tu autem insidiaris animæ meæ ut auferas eam.

13 Judicet Dominus inter me et te, et ulciscatur me Dominus ex te: manus autem mea non sit in te.

14 Sicut et in proverbio antiquo dicitur: Ab impiis egredietur impietas: manus ergo mea non sit in te.

15 Quem persequeris, rex Israël? quem persequeris? canem mortuum persequeris, et pulicem unum.

16 Sit Dominus judex, et judicet inter me et te: et videat, et judicet causam meam, et eruat me de manu tua.

17 Cum autem complesset David loquens sermones hujuscemodi ad Saul, dixit Saul: Numquid vox hæc tua est, fili mi David? Et levavit Saul vocem suam, et flevit:

18 dixitque ad David: Justior tu es quam ego: tu enim tribuisti mihi bona, ego autem reddidi tibi mala.

19 Et tu indicasti hodie quæ feceris mihi bona: quomodo tradiderit me Dominus in manum tuam, et non occideris me.

20 Quis enim cum invenerit inimicum suum, dimittet eum in via bona? sed Dominus reddat tibi vicissitudinem hanc pro eo quod hodie operatus es in me.

21 Et nunc quia scio quod certissime regnaturus sis, et habiturus in manu tua regnum Israël:

22 jura mihi in Domino, ne deleas semen meum post me, neque auferas nomen meum de domo patris mei.

23 Et juravit David Sauli. Abiit ergo Saul in domum suam: et David et viri ejus ascenderunt ad tutiora loca.
