The Internet Sacred Text Archive publishes primarily public-domain texts, and members may post their own commentary and research. We respect the intellectual property of others and respond to valid notices of claimed infringement under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. § 512, and comparable law elsewhere.
Filing a takedown notice
To report content you believe infringes your copyright, provide the following:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
- The URL(s) of the material on this site you want removed, specific enough for us to locate it.
- Your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.

What happens next
Valid notices are worked as tickets by our staff: we remove or disable access to the identified material and notify the member who posted it. Members whose content is removed may file a counter-notice. Members who repeatedly infringe will have their accounts terminated.
Counter-notice
If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, you may file a counter-notice containing your signature, identification of the removed material and its former location, a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief it was removed by mistake, and your contact information and consent to jurisdiction as required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(g).
