1 τεκνία μου, ταῦτα γράφω ὑμῖν ἵνα μὴ ἁμάρτητε. καὶ ἐάν τις ἁμάρτῃ, παράκλητον ἔχομεν πρὸς τὸν πατέρα, ἰησοῦν χριστὸν δίκαιον·

2 καὶ αὐτὸς ἱλασμός ἐστιν περὶ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν, οὐ περὶ τῶν ἡμετέρων δὲ μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ περὶ ὅλου τοῦ κόσμου.

3 καὶ ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκομεν ὅτι ἐγνώκαμεν αὐτόν, ἐὰν τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ τηρῶμεν.

4 ὁ λέγων ὅτι ἔγνωκα αὐτόν, καὶ τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ μὴ τηρῶν, ψεύστης ἐστίν, καὶ ἐν τούτῳ ἡ ἀλήθεια οὐκ ἔστιν·

5 ὃς δ᾽ ἂν τηρῇ αὐτοῦ τὸν λόγον, ἀληθῶς ἐν τούτῳ ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ θεοῦ τετελείωται. ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκομεν ὅτι ἐν αὐτῶ ἐσμεν·

6 ὁ λέγων ἐν αὐτῶ μένειν ὀφείλει καθὼς ἐκεῖνος περιεπάτησεν καὶ αὐτὸς [οὕτως] περιπατεῖν.

7 ἀγαπητοί, οὐκ ἐντολὴν καινὴν γράφω ὑμῖν, ἀλλ᾽ ἐντολὴν παλαιὰν ἣν εἴχετε ἀπ᾽ ἀρχῆς· ἡ ἐντολὴ ἡ παλαιά ἐστιν ὁ λόγος ὃν ἠκούσατε.

8 πάλιν ἐντολὴν καινὴν γράφω ὑμῖν, ὅ ἐστιν ἀληθὲς ἐν αὐτῶ καὶ ἐν ὑμῖν, ὅτι ἡ σκοτία παράγεται καὶ τὸ φῶς τὸ ἀληθινὸν ἤδη φαίνει.

9 ὁ λέγων ἐν τῶ φωτὶ εἶναι καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ μισῶν ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ ἐστὶν ἕως ἄρτι.

10 ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν τῶ φωτὶ μένει, καὶ σκάνδαλον ἐν αὐτῶ οὐκ ἔστιν·

11 ὁ δὲ μισῶν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ ἐστὶν καὶ ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ περιπατεῖ, καὶ οὐκ οἶδεν ποῦ ὑπάγει, ὅτι ἡ σκοτία ἐτύφλωσεν τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ.

12 γράφω ὑμῖν, τεκνία, ὅτι ἀφέωνται ὑμῖν αἱ ἁμαρτίαι διὰ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ.

13 γράφω ὑμῖν, πατέρες, ὅτι ἐγνώκατε τὸν ἀπ᾽ ἀρχῆς. γράφω ὑμῖν, νεανίσκοι, ὅτι νενικήκατε τὸν πονηρόν.

14 ἔγραψα ὑμῖν, παιδία, ὅτι ἐγνώκατε τὸν πατέρα. ἔγραψα ὑμῖν, πατέρες, ὅτι ἐγνώκατε τὸν ἀπ᾽ ἀρχῆς. ἔγραψα ὑμῖν, νεανίσκοι, ὅτι ἰσχυροί ἐστε καὶ ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ὑμῖν μένει καὶ νενικήκατε τὸν πονηρόν.

15 μὴ ἀγαπᾶτε τὸν κόσμον μηδὲ τὰ ἐν τῶ κόσμῳ. ἐάν τις ἀγαπᾷ τὸν κόσμον, οὐκ ἔστιν ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ πατρὸς ἐν αὐτῶ·

16 ὅτι πᾶν τὸ ἐν τῶ κόσμῳ, ἡ ἐπιθυμία τῆς σαρκὸς καὶ ἡ ἐπιθυμία τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν καὶ ἡ ἀλαζονεία τοῦ βίου, οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ πατρὸς ἀλλ᾽ ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου ἐστίν.

17 καὶ ὁ κόσμος παράγεται καὶ ἡ ἐπιθυμία αὐτοῦ, ὁ δὲ ποιῶν τὸ θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.

18 παιδία, ἐσχάτη ὥρα ἐστίν, καὶ καθὼς ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἀντίχριστος ἔρχεται, καὶ νῦν ἀντίχριστοι πολλοὶ γεγόνασιν· ὅθεν γινώσκομεν ὅτι ἐσχάτη ὥρα ἐστίν.

19 ἐξ ἡμῶν ἐξῆλθαν, ἀλλ᾽ οὐκ ἦσαν ἐξ ἡμῶν· εἰ γὰρ ἐξ ἡμῶν ἦσαν, μεμενήκεισαν ἂν μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν· ἀλλ᾽ ἵνα φανερωθῶσιν ὅτι οὐκ εἰσὶν πάντες ἐξ ἡμῶν.

20 καὶ ὑμεῖς χρῖσμα ἔχετε ἀπὸ τοῦ ἁγίου, καὶ οἴδατε πάντες.

21 οὐκ ἔγραψα ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐκ οἴδατε τὴν ἀλήθειαν, ἀλλ᾽ ὅτι οἴδατε αὐτήν, καὶ ὅτι πᾶν ψεῦδος ἐκ τῆς ἀληθείας οὐκ ἔστιν.

22 τίς ἐστιν ὁ ψεύστης εἰ μὴ ὁ ἀρνούμενος ὅτι ἰησοῦς οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ χριστός; οὖτός ἐστιν ὁ ἀντίχριστος, ὁ ἀρνούμενος τὸν πατέρα καὶ τὸν υἱόν.

23 πᾶς ὁ ἀρνούμενος τὸν υἱὸν οὐδὲ τὸν πατέρα ἔχει· ὁ ὁμολογῶν τὸν υἱὸν καὶ τὸν πατέρα ἔχει.

24 ὑμεῖς ὃ ἠκούσατε ἀπ᾽ ἀρχῆς ἐν ὑμῖν μενέτω· ἐὰν ἐν ὑμῖν μείνῃ ὃ ἀπ᾽ ἀρχῆς ἠκούσατε, καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐν τῶ υἱῶ καὶ ἐν τῶ πατρὶ μενεῖτε.

25 καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ ἐπαγγελία ἣν αὐτὸς ἐπηγγείλατο ἡμῖν, τὴν ζωὴν τὴν αἰώνιον.

26 ταῦτα ἔγραψα ὑμῖν περὶ τῶν πλανώντων ὑμᾶς.

27 καὶ ὑμεῖς τὸ χρῖσμα ὃ ἐλάβετε ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ μένει ἐν ὑμῖν, καὶ οὐ χρείαν ἔχετε ἵνα τις διδάσκῃ ὑμᾶς· ἀλλ᾽ ὡς τὸ αὐτοῦ χρῖσμα διδάσκει ὑμᾶς περὶ πάντων, καὶ ἀληθές ἐστιν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ψεῦδος, καὶ καθὼς ἐδίδαξεν ὑμᾶς, μένετε ἐν αὐτῶ.

28 καὶ νῦν, τεκνία, μένετε ἐν αὐτῶ, ἵνα ἐὰν φανερωθῇ σχῶμεν παρρησίαν καὶ μὴ αἰσχυνθῶμεν ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ αὐτοῦ.

29 ἐὰν εἰδῆτε ὅτι δίκαιός ἐστιν, γινώσκετε ὅτι καὶ πᾶς ὁ ποιῶν τὴν δικαιοσύνην ἐξ αὐτοῦ γεγέννηται.

1  My³⁴⁵⁰ little children,⁵⁰⁴⁰ these things⁵⁰²³ write¹¹²⁵ I unto you,⁵²¹³ that²⁴⁴³ ye sin²⁶⁴ not.³³⁶¹ And²⁵³² if¹⁴³⁷ any man⁵¹⁰⁰ sin,²⁶⁴ we have²¹⁹² an advocate³⁸⁷⁵ with⁴³¹⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ Father,³⁹⁶² Jesus²⁴²⁴ Christ⁵⁵⁴⁷ the righteous:¹³⁴²

7  Brethren,⁸⁰ I write¹¹²⁵ no³⁷⁵⁶ new²⁵³⁷ commandment¹⁷⁸⁵ unto you,⁵²¹³ but²³⁵ an old³⁸²⁰ commandment¹⁷⁸⁵ which³⁷³⁹ ye had²¹⁹² from⁵⁷⁵ the beginning.⁷⁴⁶ The³⁵⁸⁸ old³⁸²⁰ commandment¹⁷⁸⁵ is²⁰⁷⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ word³⁰⁵⁶ which³⁷³⁹ ye have heard¹⁹¹ from⁵⁷⁵ the beginning.⁷⁴⁶

8  Again,³⁸²⁵ a new²⁵³⁷ commandment¹⁷⁸⁵ I write¹¹²⁵ unto you,⁵²¹³ which thing³⁷³⁹ is²⁰⁷⁶ true²²⁷ in¹⁷²² him⁸⁴⁶ and²⁵³² in¹⁷²² you:⁵²¹³ because³⁷⁵⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ darkness⁴⁶⁵³ is past,³⁸⁵⁵ and²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ true²²⁸ light⁵⁴⁵⁷ now²²³⁵ shineth.⁵³¹⁶

9  He that saith³⁰⁰⁴ he is¹⁵¹¹ in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ light,⁵⁴⁵⁷ and²⁵³² hateth³⁴⁰⁴ his⁸⁴⁸ brother,⁸⁰ is²⁰⁷⁶ in¹⁷²² darkness⁴⁶⁵³ even until²¹⁹³ now.⁷³⁷

10  He that loveth²⁵ his⁸⁴⁸ brother⁸⁰ abideth³³⁰⁶ in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ light,⁵⁴⁵⁷ and²⁵³² there is²⁰⁷⁶ none³⁷⁵⁶ occasion of stumbling⁴⁶²⁵ in¹⁷²² him.⁸⁴⁶

13  I write¹¹²⁵ unto you,⁵²¹³ fathers,³⁹⁶² because³⁷⁵⁴ ye have known¹⁰⁹⁷ him³⁵⁸⁸ that is from⁵⁷⁵ the beginning.⁷⁴⁶ I write¹¹²⁵ unto you,⁵²¹³ young men,³⁴⁹⁵ because³⁷⁵⁴ ye have overcome³⁵²⁸ the³⁵⁸⁸ wicked one.⁴¹⁹⁰ I write¹¹²⁵ unto you,⁵²¹³ little children,³⁸¹³ because³⁷⁵⁴ ye have known¹⁰⁹⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ Father.³⁹⁶²

16  For³⁷⁵⁴ all³⁹⁵⁶ that³⁵⁸⁸ is in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ world,²⁸⁸⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ lust¹⁹³⁹ of the³⁵⁸⁸ flesh,⁴⁵⁶¹ and²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ lust¹⁹³⁹ of the³⁵⁸⁸ eyes,³⁷⁸⁸ and²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ pride²¹² of life,⁹⁷⁹ is²⁰⁷⁶ not³⁷⁵⁶ of¹⁵³⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ Father,³⁹⁶² but²³⁵ is²⁰⁷⁶ of¹⁵³⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ world.²⁸⁸⁹

17  And²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ world²⁸⁸⁹ passeth away,³⁸⁵⁵ and²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ lust¹⁹³⁹ thereof:⁸⁴⁸ but¹¹⁶¹ he that doeth⁴¹⁶⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ will²³⁰⁷ of God²³¹⁶ abideth³³⁰⁶ forever.^{1519 165}

18  Little children,³⁸¹³ it is²⁰⁷⁶ the last²⁰⁷⁸ time:⁵⁶¹⁰ and²⁵³² as²⁵³¹ ye have heard¹⁹¹ that³⁷⁵⁴ antichrist⁵⁰⁰ shall come,²⁰⁶⁴ even²⁵³² now³⁵⁶⁸ are¹⁰⁹⁶ there many⁴¹⁸³ antichrists;⁵⁰⁰ whereby³⁶⁰⁶ we know¹⁰⁹⁷ that³⁷⁵⁴ it is²⁰⁷⁶ the last²⁰⁷⁸ time.⁵⁶¹⁰

19  They went out¹⁸³¹ from¹⁵³⁷ us,²²⁵⁷ but²³⁵ they were²²⁵⁸ not³⁷⁵⁶ of¹⁵³⁷ us:²²⁵⁷ for¹⁰⁶³ if¹⁴⁸⁷ they had been²²⁵⁸ of¹⁵³⁷ us,²²⁵⁷ they would no doubt have continued^{3306 302} with³³²⁶ us:²²⁵⁷ but²³⁵ they went out, that²⁴⁴³ they might be made manifest⁵³¹⁹ that³⁷⁵⁴ they were¹⁵²⁶ not³⁷⁵⁶ all³⁹⁵⁶ of¹⁵³⁷ us.²²⁵⁷

20  But²⁵³² ye⁵²¹⁰ have²¹⁹² an unction⁵⁵⁴⁵ from⁵⁷⁵ the³⁵⁸⁸ Holy One,⁴⁰ and²⁵³² ye know¹⁴⁹² all things.³⁹⁵⁶

21  I have not³⁷⁵⁶ written¹¹²⁵ unto you⁵²¹³ because³⁷⁵⁴ ye know¹⁴⁹² not³⁷⁵⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ truth,²²⁵ but²³⁵ because³⁷⁵⁴ ye know¹⁴⁹² it,⁸⁴⁶ and²⁵³² that³⁷⁵⁴ no^{3956 3756} lie⁵⁵⁷⁹ is²⁰⁷⁶ of¹⁵³⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ truth.²²⁵

22  Who⁵¹⁰¹ is²⁰⁷⁶ a liar⁵⁵⁸³ but¹⁵⁰⁸ he that denieth⁷²⁰ that³⁷⁵⁴ Jesus²⁴²⁴ is^{2076 3756} the³⁵⁸⁸ Christ?⁵⁵⁴⁷ He³⁷⁷⁸ is²⁰⁷⁶ antichrist,⁵⁰⁰ that denieth⁷²⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ Father³⁹⁶² and²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ Son.⁵²⁰⁷

23  Whosoever³⁹⁵⁶ denieth⁷²⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ Son,⁵²⁰⁷ the same hath²¹⁹² not³⁷⁶¹ the³⁵⁸⁸ Father:³⁹⁶² but he that acknowledgeth³⁶⁷⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ Son⁵²⁰⁷ hath²¹⁹² the³⁵⁸⁸ Father³⁹⁶² also.²⁵³²

24  Let that therefore³⁷⁶⁷ abide³³⁰⁶ in¹⁷²² you,⁵²¹³ which ye⁵²¹⁰ have heard¹⁹¹ from⁵⁷⁵ the beginning.⁷⁴⁶ If¹⁴³⁷ that which³⁷³⁹ ye have heard¹⁹¹ from⁵⁷⁵ the beginning⁷⁴⁶ shall remain³³⁰⁶ in¹⁷²² you,⁵²¹³ ye⁵²¹⁰ also²⁵³² shall continue³³⁰⁶ in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ Son,⁵²⁰⁷ and²⁵³² in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ Father.³⁹⁶²

25  And²⁵³² this³⁷⁷⁸ is²⁰⁷⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ promise¹⁸⁶⁰ that³⁷³⁹ he⁸⁴⁶ hath promised¹⁸⁶¹ us,²²⁵⁴ even eternal¹⁶⁶ life,²²²²

26  These⁵⁰²³ things have I written¹¹²⁵ unto you⁵²¹³ concerning⁴⁰¹² them that seduce⁴¹⁰⁵ you.⁵²⁰⁹

27  But²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ anointing⁵⁵⁴⁵ which³⁷³⁹ ye⁵²¹⁰ have received²⁹⁸³ of⁵⁷⁵ him⁸⁴⁶ abideth³³⁰⁶ in¹⁷²² you,⁵²¹³ and²⁵³² ye need^{2192 5532} not³⁷⁵⁶ that²⁴⁴³ any man⁵¹⁰⁰ teach¹³²¹ you:⁵²⁰⁹ but²³⁵ as⁵⁶¹³ the³⁵⁸⁸ same⁸⁴⁶ anointing⁵⁵⁴⁵ teacheth¹³²¹ you⁵²⁰⁹ of⁴⁰¹² all things,³⁹⁵⁶ and²⁵³² is²⁰⁷⁶ truth,²²⁷ and²⁵³² is²⁰⁷⁶ no³⁷⁵⁶ lie,⁵⁵⁷⁹ and²⁵³² even as²⁵³¹ it hath taught¹³²¹ you,⁵²⁰⁹ ye shall abide³³⁰⁶ in¹⁷²² him.⁸⁴⁶

28  And²⁵³² now,³⁵⁶⁸ little children,⁵⁰⁴⁰ abide³³⁰⁶ in¹⁷²² him;⁸⁴⁶ that,²⁴⁴³ when³⁷⁵² he shall appear,⁵³¹⁹ we may have²¹⁹² confidence,³⁹⁵⁴ and²⁵³² not³³⁶¹ be ashamed¹⁵³ before⁵⁷⁵ him⁸⁴⁶ at¹⁷²² his⁸⁴⁸ coming.³⁹⁵²

29  If¹⁴³⁷ ye know¹⁴⁹² that³⁷⁵⁴ he is²⁰⁷⁶ righteous,¹³⁴² ye know¹⁰⁹⁷ that³⁷⁵⁴ every one³⁹⁵⁶ that doeth⁴¹⁶⁰ righteousness¹³⁴³ is born¹⁰⁸⁰ of¹⁵³⁷ him.⁸⁴⁶

8 Iterum mandatum novum scribo vobis, quod verum est et in ipso, et in vobis: quia tenebræ transierunt, et verum lumen jam lucet.

9 Qui dicit se in luce esse, et fratrem suum odit, in tenebris est usque adhuc.

10 Qui diligit fratrem suum, in lumine manet, et scandalum in eo non est.

11 Qui autem odit fratrem suum, in tenebris est, et in tenebris ambulat, et nescit quo eat: quia tenebræ obcæcaverunt oculos ejus.

12 Scribo vobis, filioli, quoniam remittuntur vobis peccata propter nomen ejus.

13 Scribo vobis, patres, quoniam cognovistis eum, qui ab initio est. Scribo vobis, adolescentes, quoniam vicistis malignum.

14 Scribo vobis, infantes, quoniam cognovistis patrem. Scribo vobis juvenes, quoniam fortes estis, et verbum Dei manet in vobis, et vicistis malignum.

15 Nolite diligere mundum, neque ea quæ in mundo sunt. Si quis diligit mundum, non est caritas Patris in eo:

16 quoniam omne quod est in mundo, concupiscentia carnis est, et concupiscentia oculorum, et superbia vitæ: quæ non est ex Patre, sed ex mundo est.

17 Et mundus transit, et concupiscentia ejus: qui autem facit voluntatem Dei manet in æternum.

18 Filioli, novissima hora est: et sicut audistis quia antichristus venit, et nunc antichristi multi facti sunt; unde scimus, quia novissima hora est.

19 Ex nobis prodierunt, sed non erant ex nobis, nam, si fuissent ex nobis, permansissent utique nobiscum: sed ut manifesti sint quoniam non sunt omnes ex nobis.

20 Sed vos unctionem habetis a Sancto, et nostis omnia.

21 Non scripsi vobis quasi ignorantibus veritatem, sed quasi scientibus eam: et quoniam omne mendacium ex veritate non est.

22 Quis est mendax, nisi is qui negat quoniam Jesus est Christus? Hic est antichristus, qui negat Patrem, et Filium.

23 Omnis qui negat Filium, nec Patrem habet: qui confitetur Filium, et Patrem habet.

24 Vos quod audistis ab initio, in vobis permaneat: si in vobis permanserit quod audistis ab initio, et vos in Filio et Patre manebitis.

25 Et hæc est repromissio, quam ipse pollicitus est nobis, vitam æternam.

26 Hæc scripsi vobis de his, qui seducant vos.

27 Et vos unctionem, quam accepistis ab eo, maneat in vobis. Et non necesse habetis ut aliquis doceat vos: sed sicut unctio ejus docet vos de omnibus, et verum est, et non est mendacium. Et sicut docuit vos: manete in eo.

28 Et nunc, filioli, manete in eo: ut cum apparuerit, habeamus fiduciam, et non confundamur ab eo in adventu ejus.

29 Si scitis quoniam justus est, scitote quoniam et omnis, qui facit justitiam, ex ipso natus est.
