1  And it came to pass,¹⁹⁶¹ when⁸³⁴ Samuel⁸⁰⁵⁰ was old,²²⁰⁴ that he made^{7760 853} his sons¹¹²¹ judges⁸¹⁹⁹ over Israel.³⁴⁷⁸

2  Now the name⁸⁰³⁴ of his firstborn¹⁰⁶⁰ was¹⁹⁶¹ Joel;³¹⁰⁰ and the name⁸⁰³⁴ of his second,⁴⁹³² Abiah:²⁹ they were judges⁸¹⁹⁹ in Beer-sheba.⁸⁸⁴

3  And his sons¹¹²¹ walked¹⁹⁸⁰ not³⁸⁰⁸ in his ways,¹⁸⁷⁰ but turned aside⁵¹⁸⁶ after³¹⁰ lucre,¹²¹⁵ and took³⁹⁴⁷ bribes,⁷⁸¹⁰ and perverted⁵¹⁸⁶ judgment.⁴⁹⁴¹

4  Then all³⁶⁰⁵ the elders²²⁰⁵ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ gathered themselves together,⁶⁹⁰⁸ and came⁹³⁵ to⁴¹³ Samuel⁸⁰⁵⁰ unto Ramah,⁷⁴¹⁴

5  And said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Behold,²⁰⁰⁹ thou⁸⁵⁹ art old,²²⁰⁴ and thy sons¹¹²¹ walk¹⁹⁸⁰ not³⁸⁰⁸ in thy ways:¹⁸⁷⁰ now⁶²⁵⁸ make⁷⁷⁶⁰ us a king⁴⁴²⁸ to judge⁸¹⁹⁹ us like all³⁶⁰⁵ the nations.¹⁴⁷¹

6  But the thing¹⁶⁹⁷ displeased^{3415 5869} Samuel,⁸⁰⁵⁰ when⁸³⁴ they said,⁵⁵⁹ Give⁵⁴¹⁴ us a king⁴⁴²⁸ to judge⁸¹⁹⁹ us. And Samuel⁸⁰⁵⁰ prayed⁶⁴¹⁹ unto⁴¹³ the LORD.³⁰⁶⁸

7  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ Samuel,⁸⁰⁵⁰ Hearken⁸⁰⁸⁵ unto the voice⁶⁹⁶³ of the people⁵⁹⁷¹ in all³⁶⁰⁵ that⁸³⁴ they say⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ thee: for³⁵⁸⁸ they have not³⁸⁰⁸ rejected³⁹⁸⁸ thee, but³⁵⁸⁸ they have rejected³⁹⁸⁸ me, that I should not reign^{4480 4427} over⁵⁹²¹ them.

8  According to all³⁶⁰⁵ the works⁴⁶³⁹ which⁸³⁴ they have done⁶²¹³ since the day^{4480 3117} that I brought them up^{5927 853} out of Egypt^{4480 4714} even unto⁵⁷⁰⁴ this²⁰⁸⁸ day,³¹¹⁷ wherewith they have forsaken⁵⁸⁰⁰ me, and served⁵⁶⁴⁷ other³¹² gods,⁴³⁰ so³⁶⁵¹ do⁶²¹³ they¹⁹⁹² also¹⁵⁷¹ unto thee.

9  Now⁶²⁵⁸ therefore hearken⁸⁰⁸⁵ unto their voice:⁶⁹⁶³ howbeit³⁸⁹ yet³⁵⁸⁸ protest solemnly^{5749 5749} unto them, and show⁵⁰⁴⁶ them the manner⁴⁹⁴¹ of the king⁴⁴²⁸ that⁸³⁴ shall reign⁴⁴²⁷ over⁵⁹²¹ them.

10  And Samuel⁸⁰⁵⁰ told⁵⁵⁹ all³⁶⁰⁵ the words¹⁶⁹⁷ of the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ unto⁴¹³ the people⁵⁹⁷¹ that asked⁷⁵⁹² of^{4480 854} him a king.⁴⁴²⁸

11  And he said,⁵⁵⁹ This²⁰⁸⁸ will be¹⁹⁶¹ the manner⁴⁹⁴¹ of the king⁴⁴²⁸ that⁸³⁴ shall reign⁴⁴²⁷ over⁵⁹²¹ you: He will take^{3947 853} your sons,¹¹²¹ and appoint⁷⁷⁶⁰ them for himself, for his chariots,⁴⁸¹⁸ and to be his horsemen;⁶⁵⁷¹ and some shall run⁷³²³ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ his chariots.⁴⁸¹⁸

12  And he will appoint⁷⁷⁶⁰ him captains⁸²⁶⁹ over thousands,⁵⁰⁵ and captains⁸²⁶⁹ over fifties;²⁵⁷² and will set them to ear²⁷⁹⁰ his ground,²⁷⁵⁸ and to reap⁷¹¹⁴ his harvest,⁷¹⁰⁵ and to make⁶²¹³ his instruments³⁶²⁷ of war,⁴⁴²¹ and instruments³⁶²⁷ of his chariots.⁷³⁹³

13  And he will take³⁹⁴⁷ your daughters¹³²³ to be confectionaries,⁷⁵⁴⁸ and to be cooks,²⁸⁷⁹ and to be bakers.⁶⁴⁴

14  And he will take³⁹⁴⁷ your fields,⁷⁷⁰⁴ and your vineyards,³⁷⁵⁴ and your oliveyards,²¹³² even the best²⁸⁹⁶ of them, and give⁵⁴¹⁴ them to his servants.⁵⁶⁵⁰

15  And he will take the tenth⁶²³⁷ of your seed,²²³³ and of your vineyards,³⁷⁵⁴ and give⁵⁴¹⁴ to his officers,⁵⁶³¹ and to his servants.⁵⁶⁵⁰

16  And he will take³⁹⁴⁷ your menservants,⁵⁶⁵⁰ and your maidservants,⁸¹⁹⁸ and your goodliest²⁸⁹⁶ young men,⁹⁷⁰ and your asses,²⁵⁴³ and put⁶²¹³ them to his work.⁴³⁹⁹

17  He will take the tenth⁶²³⁷ of your sheep:⁶⁶²⁹ and ye⁸⁵⁹ shall be¹⁹⁶¹ his servants.⁵⁶⁵⁰

18  And ye shall cry out²¹⁹⁹ in that¹⁹³¹ day³¹¹⁷ because^{4480 6440} of your king⁴⁴²⁸ which⁸³⁴ ye shall have chosen⁹⁷⁷ you; and the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ will not³⁸⁰⁸ hear⁶⁰³⁰ you in that¹⁹³¹ day.³¹¹⁷

19  Nevertheless the people⁵⁹⁷¹ refused³⁹⁸⁵ to obey⁸⁰⁸⁵ the voice⁶⁹⁶³ of Samuel;⁸⁰⁵⁰ and they said,⁵⁵⁹ Nay;³⁸⁰⁸ but^{3588 518} we will have¹⁹⁶¹ a king⁴⁴²⁸ over⁵⁹²¹ us;

20  That we⁵⁸⁷ also¹⁵⁷¹ may be¹⁹⁶¹ like all³⁶⁰⁵ the nations;¹⁴⁷¹ and that our king⁴⁴²⁸ may judge⁸¹⁹⁹ us, and go out³³¹⁸ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ us, and fight^{3898 853} our battles.⁴⁴²¹

21  And Samuel⁸⁰⁵⁰ heard^{8085 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ the words¹⁶⁹⁷ of the people,⁵⁹⁷¹ and he rehearsed¹⁶⁹⁶ them in the ears²⁴¹ of the LORD.³⁰⁶⁸

22  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ to⁴¹³ Samuel,⁸⁰⁵⁰ Hearken⁸⁰⁸⁵ unto their voice,⁶⁹⁶³ and make them a king.^{4427 4428} And Samuel⁸⁰⁵⁰ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ the men³⁷⁶ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ Go¹⁹⁸⁰ ye every man³⁷⁶ unto his city.⁵⁸⁹²

1 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἐγήρασεν Σαμουηλ καὶ κατέστησεν τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ δικαστὰς τῷ Ισραηλ

2 καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ πρωτότοκος Ιωηλ καὶ ὄνομα τοῦ δευτέρου Αβια δικασταὶ ἐν Βηρσαβεε

3 καὶ οὐκ ἐπορεύθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐν ὁδῷ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξέκλιναν ὀπίσω τῆς συντελείας καὶ ἐλάμβανον δῶρα καὶ ἐξέκλινον δικαιώματα

4 καὶ συναθροίζονται ἄνδρες Ισραηλ καὶ παραγίνονται εἰς Αρμαθαιμ πρὸς Σαμουηλ

5 καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ ἰδοὺ σὺ γεγήρακας καὶ οἱ υἱοί σου οὐ πορεύονται ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ σου καὶ νῦν κατάστησον ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς βασιλέα δικάζειν ἡμᾶς καθὰ καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ ἔθνη

6 καὶ ἦν πονηρὸν τὸ ῥῆμα ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς Σαμουηλ ὡς εἶπαν δὸς ἡμῖν βασιλέα δικάζειν ἡμᾶς καὶ προσηύξατο Σαμουηλ πρὸς κύριον

7 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Σαμουηλ ἄκουε τῆς φωνῆς τοῦ λαοῦ καθὰ ἂν λαλήσωσίν σοι ὅτι οὐ σὲ ἐξουθενήκασιν ἀλλ᾽ ἢ ἐμὲ ἐξουδενώκασιν τοῦ μὴ βασιλεύειν ἐπ᾽ αὐτῶν

8 κατὰ πάντα τὰ ποιήματα ἃ ἐποίησάν μοι ἀφ᾽ ἧς ἡμέρας ἀνήγαγον αὐτοὺς ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης καὶ ἐγκατέλιπόν με καὶ ἐδούλευον θεοῖς ἑτέροις οὕτως αὐτοὶ ποιοῦσιν καὶ σοί

9 καὶ νῦν ἄκουε τῆς φωνῆς αὐτῶν πλὴν ὅτι διαμαρτυρόμενος διαμαρτύρῃ αὐτοῖς καὶ ἀπαγγελεῖς αὐτοῖς τὸ δικαίωμα τοῦ βασιλέως ὃς βασιλεύσει ἐπ᾽ αὐτούς

10 καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουηλ πᾶν τὸ ῥῆμα κυρίου πρὸς τὸν λαὸν τοὺς αἰτοῦντας παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ βασιλέα

11 καὶ εἶπεν τοῦτο ἔσται τὸ δικαίωμα τοῦ βασιλέως ὃς βασιλεύσει ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς τοὺς υἱοὺς ὑμῶν λήμψεται καὶ θήσεται αὐτοὺς ἐν ἅρμασιν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἱππεῦσιν αὐτοῦ καὶ προτρέχοντας τῶν ἁρμάτων αὐτοῦ

12 καὶ θέσθαι αὐτοὺς ἑαυτῷ χιλιάρχους καὶ ἑκατοντάρχους καὶ θερίζειν θερισμὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ τρυγᾶν τρυγητὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ποιεῖν σκεύη πολεμικὰ αὐτοῦ καὶ σκεύη ἁρμάτων αὐτοῦ

13 καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας ὑμῶν λήμψεται εἰς μυρεψοὺς καὶ εἰς μαγειρίσσας καὶ εἰς πεσσούσας

14 καὶ τοὺς ἀγροὺς ὑμῶν καὶ τοὺς ἀμπελῶνας ὑμῶν καὶ τοὺς ἐλαιῶνας ὑμῶν τοὺς ἀγαθοὺς λήμψεται καὶ δώσει τοῖς δούλοις αὐτοῦ

15 καὶ τὰ σπέρματα ὑμῶν καὶ τοὺς ἀμπελῶνας ὑμῶν ἀποδεκατώσει καὶ δώσει τοῖς εὐνούχοις αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῖς δούλοις αὐτοῦ

16 καὶ τοὺς δούλους ὑμῶν καὶ τὰς δούλας ὑμῶν καὶ τὰ βουκόλια ὑμῶν τὰ ἀγαθὰ καὶ τοὺς ὄνους ὑμῶν λήμψεται καὶ ἀποδεκατώσει εἰς τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ

17 καὶ τὰ ποίμνια ὑμῶν ἀποδεκατώσει καὶ ὑμεῖς ἔσεσθε αὐτῷ δοῦλοι

18 καὶ βοήσεσθε ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐκ προσώπου βασιλέως ὑμῶν οὗ ἐξελέξασθε ἑαυτοῖς καὶ οὐκ ἐπακούσεται κύριος ὑμῶν ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις ὅτι ὑμεῖς ἐξελέξασθε ἑαυτοῖς βασιλέα

19 καὶ οὐκ ἠβούλετο ὁ λαὸς ἀκοῦσαι τοῦ Σαμουηλ καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ οὐχί ἀλλ᾽ ἢ βασιλεὺς ἔσται ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς

20 καὶ ἐσόμεθα καὶ ἡμεῖς κατὰ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη καὶ δικάσει ἡμᾶς βασιλεὺς ἡμῶν καὶ ἐξελεύσεται ἔμπροσθεν ἡμῶν καὶ πολεμήσει τὸν πόλεμον ἡμῶν

21 καὶ ἤκουσεν Σαμουηλ πάντας τοὺς λόγους τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰ ὦτα κυρίου

22 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Σαμουηλ ἄκουε τῆς φωνῆς αὐτῶν καὶ βασίλευσον αὐτοῖς βασιλέα καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουηλ πρὸς ἄνδρας Ισραηλ ἀποτρεχέτω ἕκαστος εἰς τὴν πόλιν αὐτοῦ

‎2 ‏וַיְהִ֞י שֶׁם־בְּנ֤וֹ הַבְּכוֹר֙ יוֹאֵ֔ל וְשֵׁ֥ם מִשְׁנֵ֖הוּ אֲבִיָּ֑ה שֹׁפְטִ֖ים בִּבְאֵ֥ר שָֽׁבַע׃

‎3 ‏וְלֹֽא־הָלְכ֤וּ בָנָיו֙ בדרכו בִּדְרָכָ֔יו וַיִּטּ֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֣י הַבָּ֑צַע וַיִּ֨קְחוּ־שֹׁ֔חַד וַיַּטּ֖וּ מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ פ

‎4 ‏וַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֔וּ כֹּ֖ל זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל הָרָמָֽתָה׃

‎5 ‏וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֗יו הִנֵּה֙ אַתָּ֣ה זָקַ֔נְתָּ וּבָנֶ֕יךָ לֹ֥א הָלְכ֖וּ בִּדְרָכֶ֑יךָ עַתָּ֗ה שִֽׂימָה־לָּ֥נוּ מֶ֛לֶךְ לְשָׁפְטֵ֖נוּ כְּכָל־הַגּוֹיִֽם׃

‎6 ‏וַיֵּ֤רַע הַדָּבָר֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמְר֔וּ תְּנָה־לָּ֥נוּ מֶ֖לֶךְ לְשָׁפְטֵ֑נוּ וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל אֶל־יְהוָֽה׃ פ

‎7 ‏וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל שְׁמַע֙ בְּק֣וֹל הָעָ֔ם לְכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־יֹאמְר֖וּ אֵלֶ֑יךָ כִּ֣י לֹ֤א אֹֽתְךָ֙ מָאָ֔סוּ כִּֽי־אֹתִ֥י מָאֲס֖וּ מִמְּלֹ֥ךְ עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

‎8 ‏כְּכָֽל־הַמַּעֲשִׂ֣ים אֲשֶׁר־עָשׂ֗וּ מִיּוֹם֩ הַעֲלֹתִ֨י אֹתָ֤ם מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ וְעַד־הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה וַיַּ֣עַזְבֻ֔נִי וַיַּעַבְד֖וּ אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים כֵּ֛ן הֵ֥מָּה עֹשִׂ֖ים גַּם־לָֽךְ׃

‎9 ‏וְעַתָּ֖ה שְׁמַ֣ע בְּקוֹלָ֑ם אַ֗ךְ כִּֽי־הָעֵ֤ד תָּעִיד֙ בָּהֶ֔ם וְהִגַּדְתָּ֣ לָהֶ֔ם מִשְׁפַּ֣ט הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִמְלֹ֖ךְ עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ ס

‎10 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל אֵ֖ת כָּל־דִּבְרֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה אֶל־הָעָ֕ם הַשֹּׁאֲלִ֥ים מֵאִתּ֖וֹ מֶֽלֶךְ׃ ס

‎11 ‏וַיֹּ֕אמֶר זֶ֗ה יִֽהְיֶה֙ מִשְׁפַּ֣ט הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִמְלֹ֖ךְ עֲלֵיכֶ֑ם אֶת־בְּנֵיכֶ֣ם יִקָּ֗ח וְשָׂ֥ם לוֹ֙ בְּמֶרְכַּבְתּ֣וֹ וּבְפָרָשָׁ֔יו וְרָצ֖וּ לִפְנֵ֥י מֶרְכַּבְתּֽוֹ׃

‎12 ‏וְלָשׂ֣וּם ל֔וֹ שָׂרֵ֥י אֲלָפִ֖ים וְשָׂרֵ֣י חֲמִשִּׁ֑ים וְלַחֲרֹ֤שׁ חֲרִישׁוֹ֙ וְלִקְצֹ֣ר קְצִיר֔וֹ וְלַעֲשׂ֥וֹת כְּלֵֽי־מִלְחַמְתּ֖וֹ וּכְלֵ֥י רִכְבּֽוֹ׃

‎13 ‏וְאֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם יִקָּ֑ח לְרַקָּח֥וֹת וּלְטַבָּח֖וֹת וּלְאֹפֽוֹת׃

‎14 ‏וְאֶת־שְׂ֠דֽוֹתֵיכֶם וְאֶת־כַּרְמֵיכֶ֧ם וְזֵיתֵיכֶ֛ם הַטּוֹבִ֖ים יִקָּ֑ח וְנָתַ֖ן לַעֲבָדָֽיו׃

‎15 ‏וְזַרְעֵיכֶ֥ם וְכַרְמֵיכֶ֖ם יַעְשֹׂ֑ר וְנָתַ֥ן לְסָרִיסָ֖יו וְלַעֲבָדָֽיו׃

‎16 ‏וְאֶת־עַבְדֵיכֶם֩ וְֽאֶת־שִׁפְח֨וֹתֵיכֶ֜ם וְאֶת־בַּחוּרֵיכֶ֧ם הַטּוֹבִ֛ים וְאֶת־חֲמוֹרֵיכֶ֖ם יִקָּ֑ח וְעָשָׂ֖ה לִמְלַאכְתּֽוֹ׃

‎17 ‏צֹאנְכֶ֖ם יַעְשֹׂ֑ר וְאַתֶּ֖ם תִּֽהְיוּ־ל֥וֹ לַעֲבָדִֽים׃

‎18 ‏וּזְעַקְתֶּם֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא מִלִּפְנֵ֣י מַלְכְּכֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּחַרְתֶּ֖ם לָכֶ֑ם וְלֹֽא־יַעֲנֶ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה אֶתְכֶ֖ם בַּיּ֥וֹם הַהֽוּא׃

‎19 ‏וַיְמָאֲנ֣וּ הָעָ֔ם לִשְׁמֹ֖עַ בְּק֣וֹל שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ לֹּ֔א כִּ֥י אִם־מֶ֖לֶךְ יִֽהְיֶ֥ה עָלֵֽינוּ׃

‎20 ‏וְהָיִ֥ינוּ גַם־אֲנַ֖חְנוּ כְּכָל־הַגּוֹיִ֑ם וּשְׁפָטָ֤נוּ מַלְכֵּ֙נוּ֙ וְיָצָ֣א לְפָנֵ֔ינוּ וְנִלְחַ֖ם אֶת־מִלְחֲמֹתֵֽנוּ׃

‎21 ‏וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל אֵ֖ת כָּל־דִּבְרֵ֣י הָעָ֑ם וַֽיְדַבְּרֵ֖ם בְּאָזְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ פ

‎22 ‏וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֤ה אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵל֙ שְׁמַ֣ע בְּקוֹלָ֔ם וְהִמְלַכְתָּ֥ לָהֶ֖ם מֶ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל֙ אֶל־אַנְשֵׁ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לְכ֖וּ אִ֥ישׁ לְעִירֽוֹ׃ פ

1 Factum est autem cum senuisset Samuel, posuit filios suos judices Israël.

2 Fuitque nomen filii ejus primogeniti Joël: et nomen secundi Abia, judicum in Bersabee.

3 Et non ambulaverunt filii illius in viis ejus: sed declinaverunt post avaritiam, acceperuntque munera, et perverterunt judicium.

4 Congregati ergo universi majores natu Israël, venerunt ad Samuelem in Ramatha.

5 Dixeruntque ei: Ecce tu senuisti, et filii tui non ambulant in viis tuis: constitue nobis regem, ut judicet nos, sicut et universæ habent nationes.

6 Displicuit sermo in oculis Samuelis, eo quod dixissent: Da nobis regem, ut judicet nos. Et oravit Samuel ad Dominum.

7 Dixit autem Dominus ad Samuelem: Audi vocem populi in omnibus quæ loquuntur tibi: non enim te abjecerunt, sed me, ne regnem super eos.

8 Juxta omnia opera sua quæ fecerunt, a die qua eduxi eos de Ægypto usque ad diem hanc: sicut dereliquerunt me, et servierunt diis alienis, sic faciunt etiam tibi.

9 Nunc ergo vocem eorum audi: verumtamen contestare eos, et prædic eis jus regis, qui regnaturus est super eos.

10 Dixit itaque Samuel omnia verba Domini ad populum, qui petierat a se regem.

11 Et ait: Hoc erit jus regis, qui imperaturus est vobis: filios vestros tollet, et ponet in curribus suis: facietque sibi equites et præcursores quadrigarum suarum,

12 et constituet sibi tribunos, et centuriones, et aratores agrorum suorum, et messores segetum, et fabros armorum et curruum suorum.

13 Filias quoque vestras faciet sibi unguentarias, et focarias, et panificas.

14 Agros quoque vestros, et vineas, et oliveta optima tollet, et dabit servis suis.

15 Sed et segetes vestras et vinearum reditus addecimabit, ut det eunuchis et famulis suis.

16 Servos etiam vestros, et ancillas, et juvenes optimos, et asinos, auferet, et ponet in opere suo.

17 Greges quoque vestros addecimabit, vosque eritis ei servi.

18 Et clamabitis in die illa a facie regis vestri, quem elegistis vobis: et non exaudiet vos Dominus in die illa, quia petistis vobis regem.

19 Noluit autem populus audire vocem Samuelis, sed dixerunt: Nequaquam: rex enim erit super nos,

20 et erimus nos quoque sicut omnes gentes: et judicabit nos rex noster, et egredietur ante nos, et pugnabit bella nostra pro nobis.

21 Et audivit Samuel omnia verba populi, et locutus est ea in auribus Domini.

22 Dixit autem Dominus ad Samuelem: Audi vocem eorum, et constitue super eos regem. Et ait Samuel ad viros Israël: Vadat unusquisque in civitatem suam.
