1  After³¹⁰ these⁴²⁸ things¹⁶⁹⁷ the word¹⁶⁹⁷ of the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ came¹⁹⁶¹ unto⁴¹³ Abram⁸⁷ in a vision,⁴²³⁶ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Fear³³⁷² not,⁴⁰⁸ Abram:⁸⁷ I⁵⁹⁵ am thy shield,⁴⁰⁴³ and thy exceeding³⁹⁶⁶ great⁷²³⁵ reward.⁷⁹³⁹

2  And Abram⁸⁷ said,⁵⁵⁹ Lord¹³⁶ GOD,³⁰⁶⁹ what⁴¹⁰⁰ wilt thou give⁵⁴¹⁴ me, seeing I⁵⁹⁵ go¹⁹⁸⁰ childless,⁶¹⁸⁵ and the steward^{1121 4943} of my house¹⁰⁰⁴ is this¹⁹³¹ Eliezer⁴⁶¹ of Damascus?¹⁸³⁴

3  And Abram⁸⁷ said,⁵⁵⁹ Behold,²⁰⁰⁵ to me thou hast given⁵⁴¹⁴ no³⁸⁰⁸ seed:²²³³ and, lo,²⁰⁰⁹ one born¹¹²¹ in my house¹⁰⁰⁴ is mine heir.³⁴²³

4  And, behold,²⁰⁰⁹ the word¹⁶⁹⁷ of the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ came unto⁴¹³ him, saying,⁵⁵⁹ This²⁰⁸⁸ shall not³⁸⁰⁸ be thine heir;³⁴²³ but^{3588 518} he that⁸³⁴ shall come forth³³¹⁸ out of thine own bowels^{4480 4578} shall be thine heir.³⁴²³

5  And he brought him forth^{3318 853} abroad,²³⁵¹ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Look⁵⁰²⁷ now⁴⁹⁹⁴ toward heaven,⁸⁰⁶⁴ and tell⁵⁶⁰⁸ the stars,³⁵⁵⁶ if⁵¹⁸ thou be able³²⁰¹ to number⁵⁶⁰⁸ them: and he said⁵⁵⁹ unto him, So³⁵⁴¹ shall thy seed²²³³ be.¹⁹⁶¹

6  And he believed⁵³⁹ in the LORD;³⁰⁶⁸ and he counted²⁸⁰³ it to him for righteousness.⁶⁶⁶⁶

7  And he said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, I⁵⁸⁹ am the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ that⁸³⁴ brought³³¹⁸ thee out of Ur^{4480 218} of the Chaldees,³⁷⁷⁸ to give⁵⁴¹⁴ thee ⁸⁵³ this²⁰⁶³ land⁷⁷⁶ to inherit³⁴²³ it.

8  And he said,⁵⁵⁹ Lord¹³⁶ GOD,³⁰⁶⁹ whereby⁴¹⁰⁰ shall I know³⁰⁴⁵ that³⁵⁸⁸ I shall inherit³⁴²³ it?

9  And he said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Take³⁹⁴⁷ me an heifer⁵⁶⁹⁷ of three years old,⁸⁰²⁷ and a she goat⁵⁷⁹⁵ of three years old,⁸⁰²⁷ and a ram³⁵² of three years old,⁸⁰²⁷ and a turtledove,⁸⁴⁴⁹ and a young pigeon.¹⁴⁶⁹

10  And he took³⁹⁴⁷ unto him ⁸⁵³ all³⁶⁰⁵ these,⁴²⁸ and divided¹³³⁴ them in the midst,⁸⁴³² and laid⁵⁴¹⁴ each³⁷⁶ piece¹³³⁵ one against⁷¹²⁵ another:⁷⁴⁵³ but the birds⁶⁸³³ divided¹³³⁴ he not.³⁸⁰⁸

11  And when the fowls⁵⁸⁶¹ came down³³⁸¹ upon⁵⁹²¹ the carcasses,⁶²⁹⁷ Abram⁸⁷ drove them away.^{5380 853}

12  And when the sun⁸¹²¹ was going down,⁹³⁵ a deep sleep⁸⁶³⁹ fell⁵³⁰⁷ upon⁵⁹²¹ Abram;⁸⁷ and, lo,²⁰⁰⁹ a horror³⁶⁷ of great¹⁴¹⁹ darkness²⁸²⁵ fell⁵³⁰⁷ upon⁵⁹²¹ him.

13  And he said⁵⁵⁹ unto Abram,⁸⁷ Know of a surety^{3045 3045} that³⁵⁸⁸ thy seed²²³³ shall be¹⁹⁶¹ a stranger¹⁶¹⁶ in a land⁷⁷⁶ that is not³⁸⁰⁸ theirs, and shall serve⁵⁶⁴⁷ them; and they shall afflict⁶⁰³¹ them four⁷⁰² hundred³⁹⁶⁷ years;⁸¹⁴¹

14  And also^{1571 853} that nation,¹⁴⁷¹ whom⁸³⁴ they shall serve,⁵⁶⁴⁷ will I⁵⁹⁵ judge:¹⁷⁷⁷ and afterward^{310 3651} shall they come out³³¹⁸ with great¹⁴¹⁹ substance.⁷³⁹⁹

15  And thou⁸⁵⁹ shalt go⁹³⁵ to⁴¹³ thy fathers¹ in peace;⁷⁹⁶⁵ thou shalt be buried⁶⁹¹² in a good²⁸⁹⁶ old age.⁷⁸⁷²

16  But in the fourth⁷²⁴³ generation¹⁷⁵⁵ they shall come hither again:^{7725 2008} for³⁵⁸⁸ the iniquity⁵⁷⁷¹ of the Amorites⁵⁶⁷ is not³⁸⁰⁸ yet^{5704 2008} full.⁸⁰⁰³

17  And it came to pass,¹⁹⁶¹ that, when the sun⁸¹²¹ went down,⁹³⁵ and it was¹⁹⁶¹ dark,⁵⁹³⁹ behold²⁰⁰⁹ a smoking⁶²²⁷ furnace,⁸⁵⁷⁴ and a burning⁷⁸⁴ lamp³⁹⁴⁰ that⁸³⁴ passed⁵⁶⁷⁴ between⁹⁹⁶ those⁴²⁸ pieces.¹⁵⁰⁶

18  In the same¹⁹³¹ day³¹¹⁷ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ made³⁷⁷² a covenant¹²⁸⁵ with⁸⁵⁴ Abram,⁸⁷ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Unto thy seed²²³³ have I given⁵⁴¹⁴ this^{2063 853} land,⁷⁷⁶ from the river^{4480 5104} of Egypt⁴⁷¹⁴ unto⁵⁷⁰⁴ the great¹⁴¹⁹ river,⁵¹⁰⁴ the river⁵¹⁰⁴ Euphrates:⁶⁵⁷⁸

19  ⁸⁵³ The Kenites,⁷⁰¹⁷ and the Kenizzites,⁷⁰⁷⁴ and the Kadmonites,⁶⁹³⁵

20  And the Hittites,²⁸⁵⁰ and the Perizzites,⁶⁵²² and the Rephaims,⁷⁴⁹⁷

21  And the Amorites,⁵⁶⁷ and the Canaanites,³⁶⁶⁹ and the Girgashites,¹⁶²² and the Jebusites.²⁹⁸³

1 μετὰ δὲ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα ἐγενήθη ῥῆμα κυρίου πρὸς Αβραμ ἐν ὁράματι λέγων μὴ φοβοῦ Αβραμ ἐγὼ ὑπερασπίζω σου ὁ μισθός σου πολὺς ἔσται σφόδρα

2 λέγει δὲ Αβραμ δέσποτα τί μοι δώσεις ἐγὼ δὲ ἀπολύομαι ἄτεκνος ὁ δὲ υἱὸς Μασεκ τῆς οἰκογενοῦς μου οὗτος Δαμασκὸς Ελιεζερ

3 καὶ εἶπεν Αβραμ ἐπειδὴ ἐμοὶ οὐκ ἔδωκας σπέρμα ὁ δὲ οἰκογενής μου κληρονομήσει με

4 καὶ εὐθὺς φωνὴ κυρίου ἐγένετο πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγων οὐ κληρονομήσει σε οὗτος ἀλλ᾽ ὃς ἐξελεύσεται ἐκ σοῦ οὗτος κληρονομήσει σε

5 ἐξήγαγεν δὲ αὐτὸν ἔξω καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ἀνάβλεψον δὴ εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ ἀρίθμησον τοὺς ἀστέρας εἰ δυνήσῃ ἐξαριθμῆσαι αὐτούς καὶ εἶπεν οὕτως ἔσται τὸ σπέρμα σου

6 καὶ ἐπίστευσεν Αβραμ τῷ θεῷ καὶ ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην

7 εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτόν ἐγὼ ὁ θεὸς ὁ ἐξαγαγών σε ἐκ χώρας Χαλδαίων ὥστε δοῦναί σοι τὴν γῆν ταύτην κληρονομῆσαι

8 εἶπεν δέ δέσποτα κύριε κατὰ τί γνώσομαι ὅτι κληρονομήσω αὐτήν

9 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ λαβέ μοι δάμαλιν τριετίζουσαν καὶ αἶγα τριετίζουσαν καὶ κριὸν τριετίζοντα καὶ τρυγόνα καὶ περιστεράν

10 ἔλαβεν δὲ αὐτῷ πάντα ταῦτα καὶ διεῖλεν αὐτὰ μέσα καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὰ ἀντιπρόσωπα ἀλλήλοις τὰ δὲ ὄρνεα οὐ διεῖλεν

11 κατέβη δὲ ὄρνεα ἐπὶ τὰ σώματα τὰ διχοτομήματα αὐτῶν καὶ συνεκάθισεν αὐτοῖς Αβραμ

12 περὶ δὲ ἡλίου δυσμὰς ἔκστασις ἐπέπεσεν τῷ Αβραμ καὶ ἰδοὺ φόβος σκοτεινὸς μέγας ἐπιπίπτει αὐτῷ

13 καὶ ἐρρέθη πρὸς Αβραμ γινώσκων γνώσῃ ὅτι πάροικον ἔσται τὸ σπέρμα σου ἐν γῇ οὐκ ἰδίᾳ καὶ δουλώσουσιν αὐτοὺς καὶ κακώσουσιν αὐτοὺς καὶ ταπεινώσουσιν αὐτοὺς τετρακόσια ἔτη

14 τὸ δὲ ἔθνος ᾧ ἐὰν δουλεύσωσιν κρινῶ ἐγώ μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα ἐξελεύσονται ὧδε μετὰ ἀποσκευῆς πολλῆς

15 σὺ δὲ ἀπελεύσῃ πρὸς τοὺς πατέρας σου μετ᾽ εἰρήνης ταφεὶς ἐν γήρει καλῷ

16 τετάρτη δὲ γενεὰ ἀποστραφήσονται ὧδε οὔπω γὰρ ἀναπεπλήρωνται αἱ ἁμαρτίαι τῶν Αμορραίων ἕως τοῦ νῦν

17 ἐπεὶ δὲ ἐγίνετο ὁ ἥλιος πρὸς δυσμαῖς φλὸξ ἐγένετο καὶ ἰδοὺ κλίβανος καπνιζόμενος καὶ λαμπάδες πυρός αἳ διῆλθον ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν διχοτομημάτων τούτων

18 ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ διέθετο κύριος τῷ Αβραμ διαθήκην λέγων τῷ σπέρματί σου δώσω τὴν γῆν ταύτην ἀπὸ τοῦ ποταμοῦ Αἰγύπτου ἕως τοῦ ποταμοῦ τοῦ μεγάλου ποταμοῦ Εὐφράτου

19 τοὺς Καιναίους καὶ τοὺς Κενεζαίους καὶ τοὺς Κεδμωναίους

20 καὶ τοὺς Χετταίους καὶ τοὺς Φερεζαίους καὶ τοὺς Ραφαϊν

21 καὶ τοὺς Αμορραίους καὶ τοὺς Χαναναίους καὶ τοὺς Ευαίους καὶ τοὺς Γεργεσαίους καὶ τοὺς Ιεβουσαίους

‎1 ‏אַחַ֣ר׀ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה הָיָ֤ה דְבַר־יְהוָה֙ אֶל־אַבְרָ֔ם בַּֽמַּחֲזֶ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר אַל־תִּירָ֣א אַבְרָ֗ם אָנֹכִי֙ מָגֵ֣ן לָ֔ךְ שְׂכָרְךָ֖ הַרְבֵּ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃

‎2 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אַבְרָ֗ם אֲדֹנָ֤י יֱהוִה֙ מַה־תִּתֶּן־לִ֔י וְאָנֹכִ֖י הוֹלֵ֣ךְ עֲרִירִ֑י וּבֶן־מֶ֣שֶׁק בֵּיתִ֔י ה֖וּא דַּמֶּ֥שֶׂק אֱלִיעֶֽזֶר׃

‎3 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אַבְרָ֔ם הֵ֣ן לִ֔י לֹ֥א נָתַ֖תָּה זָ֑רַע וְהִנֵּ֥ה בֶן־בֵּיתִ֖י יוֹרֵ֥שׁ אֹתִֽי׃

‎4 ‏וְהִנֵּ֨ה דְבַר־יְהוָ֤ה אֵלָיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹ֥א יִֽירָשְׁךָ֖ זֶ֑ה כִּי־אִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יֵצֵ֣א מִמֵּעֶ֔יךָ ה֖וּא יִֽירָשֶֽׁךָ׃

‎5 ‏וַיּוֹצֵ֨א אֹת֜וֹ הַח֗וּצָה וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הַבֶּט־נָ֣א הַשָּׁמַ֗יְמָה וּסְפֹר֙ הַכּ֣וֹכָבִ֔ים אִם־תּוּכַ֖ל לִסְפֹּ֣ר אֹתָ֑ם וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ כֹּ֥ה יִהְיֶ֖ה זַרְעֶֽךָ׃

‎6 ‏וְהֶאֱמִ֖ן בַּֽיהוָ֑ה וַיַּחְשְׁבֶ֥הָ לּ֖וֹ צְדָקָֽה׃

‎7 ‏וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֵלָ֑יו אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר הוֹצֵאתִ֙יךָ֙ מֵא֣וּר כַּשְׂדִּ֔ים לָ֧תֶת לְךָ֛ אֶת־הָאָ֥רֶץ הַזֹּ֖את לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃

‎8 ‏וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהוִ֔ה בַּמָּ֥ה אֵדַ֖ע כִּ֥י אִֽירָשֶֽׁנָּה׃

‎9 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֗יו קְחָ֥ה לִי֙ עֶגְלָ֣ה מְשֻׁלֶּ֔שֶׁת וְעֵ֥ז מְשֻׁלֶּ֖שֶׁת וְאַ֣יִל מְשֻׁלָּ֑שׁ וְתֹ֖ר וְגוֹזָֽל׃

‎10 ‏וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ל֣וֹ אֶת־כָּל־אֵ֗לֶּה וַיְבַתֵּ֤ר אֹתָם֙ בַּתָּ֔וֶךְ וַיִּתֵּ֥ן אִישׁ־בִּתְר֖וֹ לִקְרַ֣את רֵעֵ֑הוּ וְאֶת־הַצִפֹּ֖ר¹ לֹ֥א בָתָֽר׃

‎11 ‏וַיֵּ֥רֶד הָעַ֖יִט עַל־הַפְּגָרִ֑ים וַיַּשֵּׁ֥ב אֹתָ֖ם אַבְרָֽם׃

‎12 ‏וַיְהִ֤י הַשֶּׁ֙מֶשׁ֙ לָב֔וֹא וְתַרְדֵּמָ֖ה נָפְלָ֣ה עַל־אַבְרָ֑ם וְהִנֵּ֥ה אֵימָ֛ה חֲשֵׁכָ֥ה גְדֹלָ֖ה נֹפֶ֥לֶת עָלָֽיו׃

‎13 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לְאַבְרָ֗ם יָדֹ֨עַ תֵּדַ֜ע כִּי־גֵ֣ר׀ יִהְיֶ֣ה זַרְעֲךָ֗ בְּאֶ֙רֶץ֙ לֹ֣א לָהֶ֔ם וַעֲבָד֖וּם וְעִנּ֣וּ אֹתָ֑ם אַרְבַּ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָֽה׃

‎14 ‏וְגַ֧ם אֶת־הַגּ֛וֹי אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַעֲבֹ֖דוּ דָּ֣ן אָנֹ֑כִי וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵ֥ן יֵצְא֖וּ בִּרְכֻ֥שׁ גָּדֽוֹל׃

‎15 ‏וְאַתָּ֛ה תָּב֥וֹא אֶל־אֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ בְּשָׁל֑וֹם תִּקָּבֵ֖ר בְּשֵׂיבָ֥ה טוֹבָֽה׃

‎16 ‏וְד֥וֹר רְבִיעִ֖י יָשׁ֣וּבוּ הֵ֑נָּה כִּ֧י לֹא־שָׁלֵ֛ם עֲוֹ֥ן הָאֱמֹרִ֖י עַד־הֵֽנָּה׃

‎17 ‏וַיְהִ֤י הַשֶּׁ֙מֶשׁ֙ בָּ֔אָה וַעֲלָטָ֖ה הָיָ֑ה וְהִנֵּ֨ה תַנּ֤וּר עָשָׁן֙ וְלַפִּ֣יד אֵ֔שׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָבַ֔ר בֵּ֖ין הַגְּזָרִ֥ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

‎18 ‏בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא כָּרַ֧ת יְהוָ֛ה אֶת־אַבְרָ֖ם בְּרִ֣ית לֵאמֹ֑ר לְזַרְעֲךָ֗ נָתַ֙תִּי֙ אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את מִנְּהַ֣ר מִצְרַ֔יִם עַד־הַנָּהָ֥ר הַגָּדֹ֖ל נְהַר־פְּרָֽת׃

‎19 ‏אֶת־הַקֵּינִי֙ וְאֶת־הַקְּנִזִּ֔י וְאֵ֖ת הַקַּדְמֹנִֽי׃

‎20 ‏וְאֶת־הַחִתִּ֥י וְאֶת־הַפְּרִזִּ֖י וְאֶת־הָרְפָאִֽים׃

‎21 ‏וְאֶת־הָֽאֱמֹרִי֙ וְאֶת־הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔י וְאֶת־הַגִּרְגָּשִׁ֖י וְאֶת־הַיְבוּסִֽי׃ ס

Vul

1 His itaque transactis, factus est sermo Domini ad Abram per visionem dicens: Noli timere, Abram: ego protector tuus sum, et merces tua magna nimis.

2 Dixitque Abram: Domine Deus, quid dabis mihi? ego vadam absque liberis, et filius procuratoris domus meæ iste Damascus Eliezer.

3 Addiditque Abram: Mihi autem non dedisti semen, et ecce vernaculus meus, hæres meus erit.

4 Statimque sermo Domini factus est ad eum, dicens: Non erit hic hæres tuus, sed qui egredietur de utero tuo, ipsum habebis hæredem.

5 Eduxitque eum foras, et ait illi: Suscipe cælum, et numera stellas, si potes. Et dixit ei: Sic erit semen tuum.

6 Credidit Abram Deo, et reputatum est illi ad justitiam.

7 Dixitque ad eum: Ego Dominus qui eduxi te de Ur Chaldæorum ut darem tibi terram istam, et possideres eam.

8 At ille ait: Domine Deus, unde scire possum quod possessurus sim eam?

9 Et respondens Dominus: Sume, inquit, mihi vaccam triennem, et capram trimam, et arietem annorum trium, turturem quoque et columbam.

10 Qui tollens universa hæc, divisit ea per medium, et utrasque partes contra se altrinsecus posuit; aves autem non divisit.

11 Descenderuntque volucres super cadavera, et abigebat eas Abram.

12 Cumque sol occumberet, sopor irruit super Abram, et horror magnus et tenebrosus invasit eum.

13 Dictumque est ad eum: Scito prænoscens quod peregrinum futurum sit semen tuum in terra non sua, et subjicient eos servituti, et affligent quadringentis annis.

14 Verumtamen gentem, cui servituri sunt, ego judicabo: et post hæc egredientur cum magna substantia.

15 Tu autem ibis ad patres tuos in pace, sepultus in senectute bona.

16 Generatione autem quarta revertentur huc: necdum enim completæ sunt iniquitates Amorrhæorum usque ad præsens tempus.

17 Cum ergo occubuisset sol, facta est caligo tenebrosa, et apparuit clibanus fumans, et lampas ignis transiens inter divisiones illas.

18 In illo die pepigit Dominus fœdus cum Abram, dicens: Semini tuo dabo terram hanc a fluvio Ægypti usque ad fluvium magnum Euphraten,

19 Cinæos, et Cenezæos, Cedmonæos,

20 et Hethæos, et Pherezæos, Raphaim quoque,

21 et Amorrhæos, et Chananæos, et Gergesæos, et Jebusæos.
