1  And when the people⁵⁹⁷¹ saw⁷²⁰⁰ that³⁵⁸⁸ Moses⁴⁸⁷² delayed⁹⁵⁴ to come down³³⁸¹ out of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the mount,²⁰²² the people⁵⁹⁷¹ gathered themselves together⁶⁹⁵⁰ unto⁵⁹²¹ Aaron,¹⁷⁵ and said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Up,⁶⁹⁶⁵ make⁶²¹³ us gods,⁴³⁰ which⁸³⁴ shall go¹⁹⁸⁰ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ us; for³⁵⁸⁸ as for this²⁰⁸⁸ Moses,⁴⁸⁷² the man³⁷⁶ that⁸³⁴ brought us up⁵⁹²⁷ out of the land^{4480 776} of Egypt,⁴⁷¹⁴ we know³⁰⁴⁵ not³⁸⁰⁸ what⁴¹⁰⁰ is become¹⁹⁶¹ of him.

2  And Aaron¹⁷⁵ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ them, Break off⁶⁵⁶¹ the golden²⁰⁹¹ earrings,⁵¹⁴¹ which⁸³⁴ are in the ears²⁴¹ of your wives,⁸⁰² of your sons,¹¹²¹ and of your daughters,¹³²³ and bring⁹³⁵ them unto⁴¹³ me.

3  And all³⁶⁰⁵ the people⁵⁹⁷¹ broke off^{6561 853} the golden²⁰⁹¹ earrings⁵¹⁴¹ which⁸³⁴ were in their ears,²⁴¹ and brought⁹³⁵ them unto⁴¹³ Aaron.¹⁷⁵

4  And he received³⁹⁴⁷ them at their hand,^{4480 3027} and fashioned⁶⁶⁹⁶ it with a graving tool,²⁷⁴⁷ after he had made⁶²¹³ it a molten⁴⁵⁴¹ calf:⁵⁶⁹⁵ and they said,⁵⁵⁹ These⁴²⁸ be thy gods,⁴³⁰ O Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ which⁸³⁴ brought thee up⁵⁹²⁷ out of the land^{4480 776} of Egypt.⁴⁷¹⁴

5  And when Aaron¹⁷⁵ saw⁷²⁰⁰ it, he built¹¹²⁹ an altar⁴¹⁹⁶ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ it; and Aaron¹⁷⁵ made proclamation,⁷¹²¹ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Tomorrow⁴²⁷⁹ is a feast²²⁸² to the LORD.³⁰⁶⁸

6  And they rose up early⁷⁹²⁵ on the morrow,^{4480 4283} and offered⁵⁹²⁷ burnt offerings,⁵⁹³⁰ and brought⁵⁰⁶⁶ peace offerings;⁸⁰⁰² and the people⁵⁹⁷¹ sat down³⁴²⁷ to eat³⁹⁸ and to drink,⁸³⁵⁴ and rose up⁶⁹⁶⁵ to play.⁶⁷¹¹

7  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said¹⁶⁹⁶ unto⁴¹³ Moses,⁴⁸⁷² Go,¹⁹⁸⁰ get thee down;³³⁸¹ for³⁵⁸⁸ thy people,⁵⁹⁷¹ which⁸³⁴ thou broughtest⁵⁹²⁷ out of the land^{4480 776} of Egypt,⁴⁷¹⁴ have corrupted⁷⁸⁴³ themselves:

8  They have turned aside⁵⁴⁹³ quickly⁴¹¹⁸ out of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the way¹⁸⁷⁰ which⁸³⁴ I commanded⁶⁶⁸⁰ them: they have made⁶²¹³ them a molten⁴⁵⁴¹ calf,⁵⁶⁹⁵ and have worshiped⁷⁸¹² it, and have sacrificed²⁰⁷⁶ thereunto, and said,⁵⁵⁹ These⁴²⁸ be thy gods,⁴³⁰ O Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ which⁸³⁴ have brought thee up⁵⁹²⁷ out of the land^{4480 776} of Egypt.⁴⁷¹⁴

9  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ Moses,⁴⁸⁷² I have seen^{7200 853} this²⁰⁸⁸ people,⁵⁹⁷¹ and, behold,²⁰⁰⁹ it¹⁹³¹ is a stiffnecked^{7186 6203} people:⁵⁹⁷¹

10  Now⁶²⁵⁸ therefore let me alone,⁵¹¹⁷ that my wrath⁶³⁹ may wax hot²⁷³⁴ against them, and that I may consume³⁶¹⁵ them: and I will make⁶²¹³ of thee a great¹⁴¹⁹ nation.¹⁴⁷¹

11  And Moses⁴⁸⁷² besought^{2470 853} the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ his God,⁴³⁰ and said,⁵⁵⁹ LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ why⁴¹⁰⁰ doth thy wrath⁶³⁹ wax hot²⁷³⁴ against thy people,⁵⁹⁷¹ which⁸³⁴ thou hast brought forth³³¹⁸ out of the land^{4480 776} of Egypt⁴⁷¹⁴ with great¹⁴¹⁹ power,³⁵⁸¹ and with a mighty²³⁸⁹ hand?³⁰²⁷

12  Wherefore⁴¹⁰⁰ should the Egyptians⁴⁷¹⁴ speak,⁵⁵⁹ and say,⁵⁵⁹ For mischief⁷⁴⁵¹ did he bring them out,³³¹⁸ to slay²⁰²⁶ them in the mountains,²⁰²² and to consume³⁶¹⁵ them from^{4480 5921} the face⁶⁴⁴⁰ of the earth?¹²⁷ Turn⁷⁷²⁵ from thy fierce wrath,^{4480 2740 639} and repent⁵¹⁶² of⁵⁹²¹ this evil⁷⁴⁵¹ against thy people.⁵⁹⁷¹

13  Remember²¹⁴² Abraham,⁸⁵ Isaac,³³²⁷ and Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ thy servants,⁵⁶⁵⁰ to whom⁸³⁴ thou sworest⁷⁶⁵⁰ by thine own self, and saidst¹⁶⁹⁶ unto⁴¹³ them, I will multiply^{7235 853} your seed²²³³ as the stars³⁵⁵⁶ of heaven,⁸⁰⁶⁴ and all³⁶⁰⁵ this²⁰⁶³ land⁷⁷⁶ that⁸³⁴ I have spoken⁵⁵⁹ of will I give⁵⁴¹⁴ unto your seed,²²³³ and they shall inherit⁵¹⁵⁷ it forever.⁵⁷⁶⁹

14  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ repented⁵¹⁶² of⁵⁹²¹ the evil⁷⁴⁵¹ which⁸³⁴ he thought¹⁶⁹⁶ to do⁶²¹³ unto his people.⁵⁹⁷¹

15  And Moses⁴⁸⁷² turned,⁶⁴³⁷ and went down³³⁸¹ from⁴⁴⁸⁰ the mount,²⁰²² and the two⁸¹⁴⁷ tables³⁸⁷¹ of the testimony⁵⁷¹⁵ were in his hand:³⁰²⁷ the tables³⁸⁷¹ were written³⁷⁸⁹ on both^{4480 8147} their sides;⁵⁶⁷⁶ on the one side^{4480 2088} and on the other^{4480 2088} were they¹⁹⁹² written.³⁷⁸⁹

16  And the tables³⁸⁷¹ were the work⁴⁶³⁹ of God,⁴³⁰ and the writing⁴³⁸⁵ was the writing⁴³⁸⁵ of God,⁴³⁰ graven²⁸⁰¹ upon⁵⁹²¹ the tables.³⁸⁷¹

17  And when Joshua³⁰⁹¹ heard^{8085 853} the noise⁶⁹⁶³ of the people⁵⁹⁷¹ as they shouted,⁷⁴⁵² he said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ Moses,⁴⁸⁷² There is a noise⁶⁹⁶³ of war⁴⁴²¹ in the camp.⁴²⁶⁴

18  And he said,⁵⁵⁹ It is not³⁶⁹ the voice⁶⁹⁶³ of them that shout⁶⁰³⁰ for mastery,¹³⁶⁹ neither³⁶⁹ is it the voice⁶⁹⁶³ of them that cry⁶⁰³⁰ for being overcome:²⁴⁷⁶ but the noise⁶⁹⁶³ of them that sing⁶⁰³¹ do I⁵⁹⁵ hear.⁸⁰⁸⁵

19  And it came to pass,¹⁹⁶¹ as soon as⁸³⁴ he came nigh⁷¹²⁶ unto⁴¹³ the camp,⁴²⁶⁴ that he saw^{7200 853} the calf,⁵⁶⁹⁵ and the dancing:⁴²⁴⁶ and Moses'⁴⁸⁷² anger⁶³⁹ waxed hot,²⁷³⁴ and he cast^{7993 853} the tables³⁸⁷¹ out of his hands,^{4480 3027} and broke⁷⁶⁶⁵ them beneath⁸⁴⁷⁸ the mount.²⁰²²

20  And he took^{3947 853} the calf⁵⁶⁹⁵ which⁸³⁴ they had made,⁶²¹³ and burnt⁸³¹³ it in the fire,⁷⁸⁴ and ground²⁹¹² it to⁵⁷⁰⁴ powder,^{834 1854} and strewed²²¹⁹ it upon^{5921 6440} the water,⁴³²⁵ and made ⁸⁵³ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ drink⁸²⁴⁸ of it.

21  And Moses⁴⁸⁷² said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ Aaron,¹⁷⁵ What⁴¹⁰⁰ did⁶²¹³ this²⁰⁸⁸ people⁵⁹⁷¹ unto thee, that³⁵⁸⁸ thou hast brought⁹³⁵ so great¹⁴¹⁹ a sin²⁴⁰¹ upon⁵⁹²¹ them?

22  And Aaron¹⁷⁵ said,⁵⁵⁹ Let not⁴⁰⁸ the anger⁶³⁹ of my lord¹¹³ wax hot:²⁷³⁴ thou⁸⁵⁹ knowest^{3045 853} the people,⁵⁹⁷¹ that³⁵⁸⁸ they¹⁹³¹ are set on mischief.⁷⁴⁵¹

23  For they said⁵⁵⁹ unto me, Make⁶²¹³ us gods,⁴³⁰ which⁸³⁴ shall go¹⁹⁸⁰ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ us: for³⁵⁸⁸ as for this²⁰⁸⁸ Moses,⁴⁸⁷² the man³⁷⁶ that⁸³⁴ brought us up⁵⁹²⁷ out of the land^{4480 776} of Egypt,⁴⁷¹⁴ we know³⁰⁴⁵ not³⁸⁰⁸ what⁴¹⁰⁰ is become¹⁹⁶¹ of him.

24  And I said⁵⁵⁹ unto them, Whosoever⁴³¹⁰ hath any gold,²⁰⁹¹ let them break it off.⁶⁵⁶¹ So they gave⁵⁴¹⁴ it me: then I cast⁷⁹⁹³ it into the fire,⁷⁸⁴ and there came out³³¹⁸ this²⁰⁸⁸ calf.⁵⁶⁹⁵

25  And when Moses⁴⁸⁷² saw⁷²⁰⁰ that^{3588 853} the people⁵⁹⁷¹ were naked;⁶⁵⁴⁴ (for³⁵⁸⁸ Aaron¹⁷⁵ had made them naked⁶⁵⁴⁴ unto their shame⁸¹⁰³ among their enemies:)⁶⁹⁶⁵

26  Then Moses⁴⁸⁷² stood⁵⁹⁷⁵ in the gate⁸¹⁷⁹ of the camp,⁴²⁶⁴ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Who⁴³¹⁰ is on the LORD's³⁰⁶⁸ side? let him come unto⁴¹³ me. And all³⁶⁰⁵ the sons¹¹²¹ of Levi³⁸⁷⁸ gathered themselves together⁶²² unto⁴¹³ him.

27  And he said⁵⁵⁹ unto them, Thus³⁵⁴¹ saith⁵⁵⁹ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ God⁴³⁰ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ Put⁷⁷⁶⁰ every man³⁷⁶ his sword²⁷¹⁹ by⁵⁹²¹ his side,³⁴⁰⁹ and go in⁵⁶⁷⁴ and out⁷⁷²⁵ from gate^{4480 8179} to gate⁸¹⁷⁹ throughout the camp,⁴²⁶⁴ and slay²⁰²⁶ every man^{376 853} his brother,²⁵¹ and every man^{376 853} his companion,⁷⁴⁵³ and every man^{376 853} his neighbor.⁷¹³⁸

28  And the children¹¹²¹ of Levi³⁸⁷⁸ did⁶²¹³ according to the word¹⁶⁹⁷ of Moses:⁴⁸⁷² and there fell⁵³⁰⁷ of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the people⁵⁹⁷¹ that¹⁹³¹ day³¹¹⁷ about three⁷⁹⁶⁹ thousand⁵⁰⁵ men.³⁷⁶

29  For Moses⁴⁸⁷² had said,⁵⁵⁹ Consecrate^{4390 3027} yourselves today³¹¹⁷ to the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ even³⁵⁸⁸ every man³⁷⁶ upon his son,¹¹²¹ and upon his brother;²⁵¹ that he may bestow⁵⁴¹⁴ upon⁵⁹²¹ you a blessing¹²⁹³ this day.³¹¹⁷

30  And it came to pass¹⁹⁶¹ on the morrow,^{4480 4283} that Moses⁴⁸⁷² said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ the people,⁵⁹⁷¹ Ye⁸⁵⁹ have sinned²³⁹⁸ a great¹⁴¹⁹ sin:²⁴⁰¹ and now⁶²⁵⁸ I will go up⁵⁹²⁷ unto⁴¹³ the LORD;³⁰⁶⁸ peradventure¹⁹⁴ I shall make an atonement³⁷²² for¹¹⁵⁷ your sin.²⁴⁰³

31  And Moses⁴⁸⁷² returned⁷⁷²⁵ unto⁴¹³ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Oh,⁵⁷⁷ this²⁰⁸⁸ people⁵⁹⁷¹ have sinned²³⁹⁸ a great¹⁴¹⁹ sin,²⁴⁰¹ and have made⁶²¹³ them gods⁴³⁰ of gold.²⁰⁹¹

32  Yet now,⁶²⁵⁸ if⁵¹⁸ thou wilt forgive⁵³⁷⁵ their sin;²⁴⁰³ and if⁵¹⁸ not,³⁶⁹ blot⁴²²⁹ me, I pray thee,⁴⁹⁹⁴ out of thy book^{4480 5612} which⁸³⁴ thou hast written.³⁷⁸⁹

33  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ Moses,⁴⁸⁷² Whosoever^{4310 834} hath sinned²³⁹⁸ against me, him will I blot out⁴²²⁹ of my book.^{4480 5612}

34  Therefore now⁶²⁵⁸ go,¹⁹⁸⁰ lead^{5148 853} the people⁵⁹⁷¹ unto⁴¹³ the place of which⁸³⁴ I have spoken¹⁶⁹⁶ unto thee: behold,²⁰⁰⁹ mine Angel⁴³⁹⁷ shall go¹⁹⁸⁰ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ thee: nevertheless in the day³¹¹⁷ when I visit⁶⁴⁸⁵ I will visit⁶⁴⁸⁵ their sin²⁴⁰³ upon⁵⁹²¹ them.

35  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ plagued^{5062 853} the people,⁵⁹⁷¹ because^{5921 834} they made^{6213 853} the calf,⁵⁶⁹⁵ which⁸³⁴ Aaron¹⁷⁵ made.⁶²¹³

1 καὶ ἰδὼν ὁ λαὸς ὅτι κεχρόνικεν Μωυσῆς καταβῆναι ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους συνέστη ὁ λαὸς ἐπὶ Ααρων καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ ἀνάστηθι καὶ ποίησον ἡμῖν θεούς οἳ προπορεύσονται ἡμῶν ὁ γὰρ Μωυσῆς οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὃς ἐξήγαγεν ἡμᾶς ἐξ Αἰγύπτου οὐκ οἴδαμεν τί γέγονεν αὐτῷ

2 καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Ααρων περιέλεσθε τὰ ἐνώτια τὰ χρυσᾶ τὰ ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν τῶν γυναικῶν ὑμῶν καὶ θυγατέρων καὶ ἐνέγκατε πρός με

3 καὶ περιείλαντο πᾶς ὁ λαὸς τὰ ἐνώτια τὰ χρυσᾶ τὰ ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν αὐτῶν καὶ ἤνεγκαν πρὸς Ααρων

4 καὶ ἐδέξατο ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν καὶ ἔπλασεν αὐτὰ ἐν τῇ γραφίδι καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτὰ μόσχον χωνευτὸν καὶ εἶπεν οὗτοι οἱ θεοί σου Ισραηλ οἵτινες ἀνεβίβασάν σε ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου

5 καὶ ἰδὼν Ααρων ᾠκοδόμησεν θυσιαστήριον κατέναντι αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκήρυξεν Ααρων λέγων ἑορτὴ τοῦ κυρίου αὔριον

6 καὶ ὀρθρίσας τῇ ἐπαύριον ἀνεβίβασεν ὁλοκαυτώματα καὶ προσήνεγκεν θυσίαν σωτηρίου καὶ ἐκάθισεν ὁ λαὸς φαγεῖν καὶ πιεῖν καὶ ἀνέστησαν παίζειν

7 καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων βάδιζε τὸ τάχος ἐντεῦθεν κατάβηθι ἠνόμησεν γὰρ ὁ λαός σου οὓς ἐξήγαγες ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου

8 παρέβησαν ταχὺ ἐκ τῆς ὁδοῦ ἧς ἐνετείλω αὐτοῖς ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοῖς μόσχον καὶ προσκεκυνήκασιν αὐτῷ καὶ τεθύκασιν αὐτῷ καὶ εἶπαν οὗτοι οἱ θεοί σου Ισραηλ οἵτινες ἀνεβίβασάν σε ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου

10 καὶ νῦν ἔασόν με καὶ θυμωθεὶς ὀργῇ εἰς αὐτοὺς ἐκτρίψω αὐτοὺς καὶ ποιήσω σὲ εἰς ἔθνος μέγα

11 καὶ ἐδεήθη Μωυσῆς ἔναντι κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ εἶπεν ἵνα τί κύριε θυμοῖ ὀργῇ εἰς τὸν λαόν σου οὓς ἐξήγαγες ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου ἐν ἰσχύι μεγάλῃ καὶ ἐν τῷ βραχίονί σου τῷ ὑψηλῷ

12 μήποτε εἴπωσιν οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι λέγοντες μετὰ πονηρίας ἐξήγαγεν αὐτοὺς ἀποκτεῖναι ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσιν καὶ ἐξαναλῶσαι αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς παῦσαι τῆς ὀργῆς τοῦ θυμοῦ σου καὶ ἵλεως γενοῦ ἐπὶ τῇ κακίᾳ τοῦ λαοῦ σου

13 μνησθεὶς Αβρααμ καὶ Ισαακ καὶ Ιακωβ τῶν σῶν οἰκετῶν οἷς ὤμοσας κατὰ σεαυτοῦ καὶ ἐλάλησας πρὸς αὐτοὺς λέγων πολυπληθυνῶ τὸ σπέρμα ὑμῶν ὡσεὶ τὰ ἄστρα τοῦ οὐρανοῦ τῷ πλήθει καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ταύτην ἣν εἶπας δοῦναι τῷ σπέρματι αὐτῶν καὶ καθέξουσιν αὐτὴν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα

14 καὶ ἱλάσθη κύριος περὶ τῆς κακίας ἧς εἶπεν ποιῆσαι τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ

15 καὶ ἀποστρέψας Μωυσῆς κατέβη ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους καὶ αἱ δύο πλάκες τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτοῦ πλάκες λίθιναι καταγεγραμμέναι ἐξ ἀμφοτέρων τῶν μερῶν αὐτῶν ἔνθεν καὶ ἔνθεν ἦσαν γεγραμμέναι

16 καὶ αἱ πλάκες ἔργον θεοῦ ἦσαν καὶ ἡ γραφὴ γραφὴ θεοῦ ἐστιν κεκολαμμένη ἐν ταῖς πλαξίν

17 καὶ ἀκούσας Ἰησοῦς τὴν φωνὴν τοῦ λαοῦ κραζόντων λέγει πρὸς Μωυσῆν φωνὴ πολέμου ἐν τῇ παρεμβολῇ

18 καὶ λέγει οὐκ ἔστιν φωνὴ ἐξαρχόντων κατ᾽ ἰσχὺν οὐδὲ φωνὴ ἐξαρχόντων τροπῆς ἀλλὰ φωνὴν ἐξαρχόντων οἴνου ἐγὼ ἀκούω

19 καὶ ἡνίκα ἤγγιζεν τῇ παρεμβολῇ ὁρᾷ τὸν μόσχον καὶ τοὺς χορούς καὶ ὀργισθεὶς θυμῷ Μωυσῆς ἔρριψεν ἀπὸ τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ τὰς δύο πλάκας καὶ συνέτριψεν αὐτὰς ὑπὸ τὸ ὄρος

20 καὶ λαβὼν τὸν μόσχον ὃν ἐποίησαν κατέκαυσεν αὐτὸν ἐν πυρὶ καὶ κατήλεσεν αὐτὸν λεπτὸν καὶ ἔσπειρεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ ἐπότισεν αὐτὸ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ

21 καὶ εἶπεν Μωυσῆς τῷ Ααρων τί ἐποίησέν σοι ὁ λαὸς οὗτος ὅτι ἐπήγαγες ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς ἁμαρτίαν μεγάλην

22 καὶ εἶπεν Ααρων πρὸς Μωυσῆν μὴ ὀργίζου κύριε σὺ γὰρ οἶδας τὸ ὅρμημα τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου

23 λέγουσιν γάρ μοι ποίησον ἡμῖν θεούς οἳ προπορεύσονται ἡμῶν ὁ γὰρ Μωυσῆς οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὃς ἐξήγαγεν ἡμᾶς ἐξ Αἰγύπτου οὐκ οἴδαμεν τί γέγονεν αὐτῷ

24 καὶ εἶπα αὐτοῖς εἴ τινι ὑπάρχει χρυσία περιέλεσθε καὶ ἔδωκάν μοι καὶ ἔρριψα εἰς τὸ πῦρ καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ μόσχος οὗτος

25 καὶ ἰδὼν Μωυσῆς τὸν λαὸν ὅτι διεσκέδασται διεσκέδασεν γὰρ αὐτοὺς Ααρων ἐπίχαρμα τοῖς ὑπεναντίοις αὐτῶν

26 ἔστη δὲ Μωυσῆς ἐπὶ τῆς πύλης τῆς παρεμβολῆς καὶ εἶπεν τίς πρὸς κύριον ἴτω πρός με συνῆλθον οὖν πρὸς αὐτὸν πάντες οἱ υἱοὶ Λευι

27 καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ θέσθε ἕκαστος τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ῥομφαίαν ἐπὶ τὸν μηρὸν καὶ διέλθατε καὶ ἀνακάμψατε ἀπὸ πύλης ἐπὶ πύλην διὰ τῆς παρεμβολῆς καὶ ἀποκτείνατε ἕκαστος τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἕκαστος τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἕκαστος τὸν ἔγγιστα αὐτοῦ

28 καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Λευι καθὰ ἐλάλησεν αὐτοῖς Μωυσῆς καὶ ἔπεσαν ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ εἰς τρισχιλίους ἄνδρας

29 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Μωυσῆς ἐπληρώσατε τὰς χεῖρας ὑμῶν σήμερον κυρίῳ ἕκαστος ἐν τῷ υἱῷ ἢ τῷ ἀδελφῷ δοθῆναι ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς εὐλογίαν

30 καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὴν αὔριον εἶπεν Μωυσῆς πρὸς τὸν λαόν ὑμεῖς ἡμαρτήκατε ἁμαρτίαν μεγάλην καὶ νῦν ἀναβήσομαι πρὸς τὸν θεόν ἵνα ἐξιλάσωμαι περὶ τῆς ἁμαρτίας ὑμῶν

31 ὑπέστρεψεν δὲ Μωυσῆς πρὸς κύριον καὶ εἶπεν δέομαι κύριε ἡμάρτηκεν ὁ λαὸς οὗτος ἁμαρτίαν μεγάλην καὶ ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοῖς θεοὺς χρυσοῦς

32 καὶ νῦν εἰ μὲν ἀφεῖς αὐτοῖς τὴν ἁμαρτίαν ἄφες εἰ δὲ μή ἐξάλειψόν με ἐκ τῆς βίβλου σου ἧς ἔγραψας

33 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν εἴ τις ἡμάρτηκεν ἐνώπιόν μου ἐξαλείψω αὐτὸν ἐκ τῆς βίβλου μου

34 νυνὶ δὲ βάδιζε κατάβηθι καὶ ὁδήγησον τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον εἰς τὸν τόπον ὃν εἶπά σοι ἰδοὺ ὁ ἄγγελός μου προπορεύεται πρὸ προσώπου σου ᾗ δ᾽ ἂν ἡμέρᾳ ἐπισκέπτωμαι ἐπάξω ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς τὴν ἁμαρτίαν αὐτῶν

35 καὶ ἐπάταξεν κύριος τὸν λαὸν περὶ τῆς ποιήσεως τοῦ μόσχου οὗ ἐποίησεν Ααρων

‎1 ‏וַיַּ֣רְא הָעָ֔ם כִּֽי־בֹשֵׁ֥שׁ מֹשֶׁ֖ה לָרֶ֣דֶת מִן־הָהָ֑ר וַיִּקָּהֵ֨ל הָעָ֜ם עַֽל־אַהֲרֹ֗ן וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ אֵלָיו֙ ק֣וּם׀ עֲשֵׂה־לָ֣נוּ אֱלֹהִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר יֵֽלְכוּ֙ לְפָנֵ֔ינוּ כִּי־זֶ֣ה׀ מֹשֶׁ֣ה הָאִ֗ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֤ר הֶֽעֱלָ֙נוּ֙ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם לֹ֥א יָדַ֖עְנוּ מֶה־הָ֥יָה לֽוֹ׃

‎2 ‏וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙ אַהֲרֹ֔ן פָּֽרְקוּ֙ נִזְמֵ֣י הַזָּהָ֔ב אֲשֶׁר֙ בְּאָזְנֵ֣י נְשֵׁיכֶ֔ם בְּנֵיכֶ֖ם וּבְנֹתֵיכֶ֑ם וְהָבִ֖יאוּ אֵלָֽי׃

‎3 ‏וַיִּתְפָּֽרְקוּ֙ כָּל־הָעָ֔ם אֶת־נִזְמֵ֥י הַזָּהָ֖ב אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּאָזְנֵיהֶ֑ם וַיָּבִ֖יאוּ אֶֽל־אַהֲרֹֽן׃

‎4 ‏וַיִּקַּ֣ח מִיָּדָ֗ם וַיָּ֤צַר אֹתוֹ֙ בַּחֶ֔רֶט וַֽיַּעֲשֵׂ֖הוּ עֵ֣גֶל מַסֵּכָ֑ה וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ אֵ֤לֶּה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶעֱל֖וּךָ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

‎5 ‏וַיַּ֣רְא אַהֲרֹ֔ן וַיִּ֥בֶן מִזְבֵּ֖חַ לְפָנָ֑יו וַיִּקְרָ֤א אַֽהֲרֹן֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר חַ֥ג לַיהוָ֖ה מָחָֽר׃

‎6 ‏וַיַּשְׁכִּ֙ימוּ֙ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת וַיַּעֲל֣וּ עֹלֹ֔ת וַיַּגִּ֖שׁוּ שְׁלָמִ֑ים וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב הָעָם֙ לֶֽאֱכֹ֣ל וְשָׁת֔וֹ וַיָּקֻ֖מוּ לְצַחֵֽק׃ פ

‎7 ‏וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה לֶךְ־רֵ֕ד כִּ֚י שִׁחֵ֣ת עַמְּךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶעֱלֵ֖יתָ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

‎8 ‏סָ֣רוּ מַהֵ֗ר מִן־הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוִּיתִ֔ם עָשׂ֣וּ לָהֶ֔ם עֵ֖גֶל מַסֵּכָ֑ה וַיִּשְׁתַּֽחֲווּ־לוֹ֙ וַיִּזְבְּחוּ־ל֔וֹ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ אֵ֤לֶּה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶֽעֱל֖וּךָ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

‎9 ‏וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה רָאִ֙יתִי֙ אֶת־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה וְהִנֵּ֥ה עַם־קְשֵׁה־עֹ֖רֶף הֽוּא׃

‎10 ‏וְעַתָּה֙ הַנִּ֣יחָה לִּ֔י וְיִֽחַר־אַפִּ֥י בָהֶ֖ם וַאֲכַלֵּ֑ם וְאֶֽעֱשֶׂ֥ה אוֹתְךָ֖ לְג֥וֹי גָּדֽוֹל׃

‎11 ‏וַיְחַ֣ל מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֶת־פְּנֵ֖י יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֑יו וַיֹּ֗אמֶר לָמָ֤ה יְהוָה֙ יֶחֱרֶ֤ה אַפְּךָ֙ בְּעַמֶּ֔ךָ אֲשֶׁ֤ר הוֹצֵ֙אתָ֙ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם בְּכֹ֥חַ גָּד֖וֹל וּבְיָ֥ד חֲזָקָֽה׃

‎12 ‏לָמָּה֩ יֹאמְר֨וּ מִצְרַ֜יִם לֵאמֹ֗ר בְּרָעָ֤ה הֽוֹצִיאָם֙ לַהֲרֹ֤ג אֹתָם֙ בֶּֽהָרִ֔ים וּ֨לְכַלֹּתָ֔ם מֵעַ֖ל פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה שׁ֚וּב מֵחֲר֣וֹן אַפֶּ֔ךָ וְהִנָּחֵ֥ם עַל־הָרָעָ֖ה לְעַמֶּֽךָ׃

‎13 ‏זְכֹ֡ר לְאַבְרָהָם֩ לְיִצְחָ֨ק וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל עֲבָדֶ֗יךָ אֲשֶׁ֨ר נִשְׁבַּ֣עְתָּ לָהֶם֮ בָּךְ֒ וַתְּדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵהֶ֔ם אַרְבֶּה֙ אֶֽת־זַרְעֲכֶ֔ם כְּכוֹכְבֵ֖י הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם וְכָל־הָאָ֨רֶץ הַזֹּ֜את אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמַ֗רְתִּי אֶתֵּן֙ לְזַרְעֲכֶ֔ם וְנָחֲל֖וּ לְעֹלָֽם׃

‎14 ‏וַיִּנָּ֖חֶם יְהוָ֑ה עַל־הָ֣רָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֶּ֖ר לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת לְעַמּֽוֹ׃ פ

‎15 ‏וַיִּ֜פֶן וַיֵּ֤רֶד מֹשֶׁה֙ מִן־הָהָ֔ר וּשְׁנֵ֛י לֻחֹ֥ת הָעֵדֻ֖ת בְּיָד֑וֹ לֻחֹ֗ת כְּתֻבִים֙ מִשְּׁנֵ֣י עֶבְרֵיהֶ֔ם מִזֶּ֥ה וּמִזֶּ֖ה הֵ֥ם כְּתֻבִֽים׃

‎16 ‏וְהַ֨לֻּחֹ֔ת מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה אֱלֹהִ֖ים הֵ֑מָּה וְהַמִּכְתָּ֗ב מִכְתַּ֤ב אֱלֹהִים֙ ה֔וּא חָר֖וּת עַל־הַלֻּחֹֽת׃

‎17 ‏וַיִּשְׁמַ֧ע יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ אֶת־ק֥וֹל הָעָ֖ם בְּרֵעֹ֑ה^q וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה ק֥וֹל מִלְחָמָ֖ה בַּֽמַּחֲנֶה׃¹

‎18 ‏וַיֹּ֗אמֶר אֵ֥ין קוֹל֙ עֲנ֣וֹת גְּבוּרָ֔ה וְאֵ֥ין ק֖וֹל עֲנ֣וֹת חֲלוּשָׁ֑ה ק֣וֹל עַנּ֔וֹת אָנֹכִ֖י שֹׁמֵֽעַ׃

‎19 ‏וַֽיְהִ֗י כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר קָרַב֙ אֶל־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה וַיַּ֥רְא אֶת־הָעֵ֖גֶל וּמְחֹלֹ֑ת וַיִּֽחַר־אַ֣ף מֹשֶׁ֗ה וַיַּשְׁלֵ֤ךְ מידו מִיָּדָיו֙ אֶת־הַלֻּחֹ֔ת וַיְשַׁבֵּ֥ר אֹתָ֖ם תַּ֥חַת הָהָֽר׃

‎20 ‏וַיִּקַּ֞ח אֶת־הָעֵ֨גֶל אֲשֶׁ֤ר עָשׂוּ֙ וַיִּשְׂרֹ֣ף בָּאֵ֔שׁ וַיִּטְחַ֖ן עַ֣ד אֲשֶׁר־דָּ֑ק וַיִּ֙זֶר֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הַמַּ֔יִם וַיַּ֖שְׁקְ אֶת־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

‎21 ‏וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֔ן מֶֽה־עָשָׂ֥ה לְךָ֖ הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֑ה כִּֽי־הֵבֵ֥אתָ עָלָ֖יו חֲטָאָ֥ה גְדֹלָֽה׃

‎22 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אַהֲרֹ֔ן אַל־יִ֥חַר אַ֖ף אֲדֹנִ֑י אַתָּה֙ יָדַ֣עְתָּ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם כִּ֥י בְרָ֖ע הֽוּא׃

‎23 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמְרוּ לִ֔י עֲשֵׂה־לָ֣נוּ אֱלֹהִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר יֵלְכ֖וּ לְפָנֵ֑ינוּ כִּי־זֶ֣ה׀ מֹשֶׁ֣ה הָאִ֗ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֤ר הֶֽעֱלָ֙נוּ֙ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם לֹ֥א יָדַ֖עְנוּ מֶה־הָ֥יָה לֽוֹ׃

‎24 ‏וָאֹמַ֤ר לָהֶם֙ לְמִ֣י זָהָ֔ב הִתְפָּרָ֖קוּ וַיִּתְּנוּ־לִ֑י וָאַשְׁלִכֵ֣הוּ בָאֵ֔שׁ וַיֵּצֵ֖א הָעֵ֥גֶל הַזֶּֽה׃

‎25 ‏וַיַּ֤רְא מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם כִּ֥י פָרֻ֖עַ ה֑וּא כִּֽי־פְרָעֹ֣ה אַהֲרֹ֔ן לְשִׁמְצָ֖ה בְּקָמֵיהֶֽם׃

‎26 ‏וַיַּעֲמֹ֤ד מֹשֶׁה֙ בְּשַׁ֣עַר הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה וַיֹּ֕אמֶר מִ֥י לַיהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֑י וַיֵּאָסְפ֥וּ אֵלָ֖יו כָּל־בְּנֵ֥י לֵוִֽי׃

‎27 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֗ם כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שִׂ֥ימוּ אִישׁ־חַרְבּ֖וֹ עַל־יְרֵכ֑וֹ עִבְר֨וּ וָשׁ֜וּבוּ מִשַּׁ֤עַר לָשַׁ֙עַר֙ בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה וְהִרְג֧וּ אִֽישׁ־אֶת־אָחִ֛יו וְאִ֥ישׁ אֶת־רֵעֵ֖הוּ וְאִ֥ישׁ אֶת־קְרֹבֽוֹ׃

‎28 ‏וַיַּֽעֲשׂ֥וּ בְנֵֽי־לֵוִ֖י כִּדְבַ֣ר מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיִּפֹּ֤ל מִן־הָעָם֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא כִּשְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת אַלְפֵ֖י אִֽישׁ׃

‎29 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֗ה מִלְא֨וּ יֶדְכֶ֤ם הַיּוֹם֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה כִּ֛י אִ֥ישׁ בִּבְנ֖וֹ וּבְאָחִ֑יו וְלָתֵ֧ת עֲלֵיכֶ֛ם הַיּ֖וֹם בְּרָכָֽה׃

‎30 ‏וַיְהִי֙ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶל־הָעָ֔ם אַתֶּ֥ם חֲטָאתֶ֖ם חֲטָאָ֣ה גְדֹלָ֑ה וְעַתָּה֙ אֶֽעֱלֶ֣ה אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה אוּלַ֥י אֲכַפְּרָ֖ה בְּעַ֥ד חַטַּאתְכֶֽם׃

‎31 ‏וַיָּ֧שָׁב מֹשֶׁ֛ה אֶל־יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אָ֣נָּ֗א חָטָ֞א הָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ חֲטָאָ֣ה גְדֹלָ֔ה וַיַּֽעֲשׂ֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם אֱלֹהֵ֥י זָהָֽב׃

‎32 ‏וְעַתָּ֖ה אִם־תִּשָּׂ֣א חַטָּאתָ֑ם וְאִם־אַ֕יִן מְחֵ֣נִי נָ֔א מִֽסִּפְרְךָ֖ אֲשֶׁ֥ר כָּתָֽבְתָּ׃

‎33 ‏וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה מִ֚י אֲשֶׁ֣ר חָֽטָא־לִ֔י אֶמְחֶ֖נּוּ מִסִּפְרִֽי׃

‎34 ‏וְעַתָּ֞ה לֵ֣ךְ׀ נְחֵ֣ה אֶת־הָעָ֗ם אֶ֤ל אֲשֶׁר־דִּבַּ֙רְתִּי֙ לָ֔ךְ הִנֵּ֥ה מַלְאָכִ֖י יֵלֵ֣ךְ לְפָנֶ֑יךָ וּבְי֣וֹם פָּקְדִ֔י וּפָקַדְתִּ֥י עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם חַטָּאתָֽם׃

‎35 ‏וַיִּגֹּ֥ף יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־הָעָ֑ם עַ֚ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשׂ֣וּ אֶת־הָעֵ֔גֶל אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָׂ֖ה אַהֲרֹֽן׃ ס

1 Videns autem populus quod moram faceret descendendi de monte Moyses, congregatus adversus Aaron, dixit: Surge, fac nobis deos, qui nos præcedant: Moysi enim huic viro, qui nos eduxit de terra Ægypti, ignoramus quid acciderit.

2 Dixitque ad eos Aaron: Tollite inaures aureas de uxorum, filiorumque et filiarum vestrarum auribus, et afferte ad me.

3 Fecitque populus quæ jusserat, deferens inaures ad Aaron.

4 Quas cum ille accepisset, formavit opere fusorio, et fecit ex eis vitulum conflatilem: dixeruntque: Hi sunt dii tui Israël, qui te eduxerunt de terra Ægypti.

5 Quod cum vidisset Aaron, ædificavit altare coram eo, et præconis voce clamavit dicens: Cras solemnitas Domini est.

6 Surgentesque mane, obtulerunt holocausta, et hostias pacificas, et sedit populus manducare, et bibere, et surrexerunt ludere.

7 Locutus est autem Dominus ad Moysen, dicens: Vade, descende: peccavit populus tuus, quem eduxisti de terra Ægypti.

8 Recesserunt cito de via, quam ostendisti eis: feceruntque sibi vitulum conflatilem, et adoraverunt, atque immolantes ei hostias, dixerunt: Isti sunt dii tui Israël, qui te eduxerunt de terra Ægypti.

9 Rursumque ait Dominus ad Moysen: Cerno quod populus iste duræ cervicis sit:

10 dimitte me, ut irascatur furor meus contra eos, et deleam eos, faciamque te in gentem magnam.

11 Moyses autem orabat Dominum Deum suum, dicens: Cur, Domine, irascitur furor tuus contra populum tuum, quem eduxisti de terra Ægypti, in fortitudine magna, et in manu robusta?

12 Ne quæso dicant Ægyptii: Callide eduxit eos, ut interficeret in montibus, et deleret e terra: quiescat ira tua, et esto placabilis super nequitia populi tui.

13 Recordare Abraham, Isaac, et Israël servorum tuorum, quibus jurasti per temetipsum, dicens: Multiplicabo semen vestrum sicut stellas cæli; et universam terram hanc, de qua locutus sum, dabo semini vestro, et possidebitis eam semper.

14 Placatusque est Dominus ne faceret malum quod locutus fuerat adversus populum suum.

15 Et reversus est Moyses de monte, portans duas tabulas testimonii in manu sua, scriptas ex utraque parte,

16 et factas opere Dei: scriptura quoque Dei erat sculpta in tabulis.

17 Audiens autem Josue tumultum populi vociferantis, dixit ad Moysen: Ululatus pugnæ auditur in castris.

18 Qui respondit: Non est clamor adhortantium ad pugnam, neque vociferatio compellentium ad fugam: sed vocem cantantium ego audio.

19 Cumque appropinquasset ad castra, vidit vitulum, et choros: iratusque valde, projecit de manu tabulas, et confregit eas ad radicem montis:

20 arripiensque vitulum quem fecerant, combussit, et contrivit usque ad pulverem, quem sparsit in aquam, et dedit ex eo potum filiis Israël.

21 Dixitque ad Aaron: Quid tibi fecit hic populus, ut induceres super eum peccatum maximum?

22 Cui ille respondit: Ne indignetur dominus meus: tu enim nosti populum istum, quod pronus sit ad malum:

23 dixerunt mihi: Fac nobis deos, qui nos præcedant: huic enim Moysi, qui nos eduxit de terra Ægypti, nescimus quid acciderit.

24 Quibus ego dixi: Quis vestrum habet aurum? Tulerunt, et dederunt mihi: et projeci illud in ignem, egressusque est hic vitulus.

25 Videns ergo Moyses populum quod esset nudatus (spoliaverat enim eum Aaron propter ignominiam sordis, et inter hostes nudum constituerat),

26 et stans in porta castrorum, ait: Si quis est Domini, jungatur mihi. Congregatique sunt ad eum omnes filii Levi:

27 quibus ait: Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël: Ponat vir gladium super femur suum: ite, et redite de porta usque ad portam per medium castrorum, et occidat unusquisque fratrem, et amicum, et proximum suum.

28 Feceruntque filii Levi juxta sermonem Moysi, cecideruntque in die illa quasi viginti tria millia hominum.

29 Et ait Moyses: Consecrastis manus vestras hodie Domino, unusquisque in filio, et in fratre suo, ut detur vobis benedictio.

30 Facto autem altero die, locutus est Moyses ad populum: Peccastis peccatum maximum: ascendam ad Dominum, si quomodo quivero eum deprecari pro scelere vestro.

31 Reversusque ad Dominum, ait: Obsecro, peccavit populus iste peccatum maximum, feceruntque sibi deos aureos: aut dimitte eis hanc noxam,

32 aut si non facis, dele me de libro tuo quem scripsisti.

33 Cui respondit Dominus: Qui peccaverit mihi, delebo eum de libro meo:

34 tu autem vade, et duc populum istum quo locutus sum tibi: angelus meus præcedet te. Ego autem in die ultionis visitabo et hoc peccatum eorum.

35 Percussit ergo Dominus populum pro reatu vituli, quem fecerat Aaron.
