1  Then we turned,⁶⁴³⁷ and took our journey⁵²⁶⁵ into the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ by the way¹⁸⁷⁰ of the Red⁵⁴⁸⁸ sea,³²²⁰ as⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ spoke¹⁶⁹⁶ unto⁴¹³ me: and we compassed^{5437 853} mount²⁰²² Seir⁸¹⁶⁵ many⁷²²⁷ days.³¹¹⁷

2  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ spoke⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ me, saying,⁵⁵⁹

3  Ye have compassed^{5437 853} this²⁰⁸⁸ mountain²⁰²² long enough:⁷²²⁷ turn⁶⁴³⁷ you northward.⁶⁸²⁸

4  And command⁶⁶⁸⁰ thou the people,⁵⁹⁷¹ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Ye⁸⁵⁹ are to pass through⁵⁶⁷⁴ the coast¹³⁶⁶ of your brethren²⁵¹ the children¹¹²¹ of Esau,⁶²¹⁵ which dwell³⁴²⁷ in Seir;⁸¹⁶⁵ and they shall be afraid³³⁷² of⁴⁴⁸⁰ you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:^{8104 3966}

5  Meddle¹⁶²⁴ not⁴⁰⁸ with them; for³⁵⁸⁸ I will not³⁸⁰⁸ give⁵⁴¹⁴ you of their land,^{4480 776} no, not so much⁵⁷⁰⁴ as a foot breadth;^{4096 3709 7272} because³⁵⁸⁸ I have given^{5414 853} mount²⁰²² Seir⁸¹⁶⁵ unto Esau⁶²¹⁵ for a possession.³⁴²⁵

6  Ye shall buy⁷⁶⁶⁶ meat⁴⁰⁰ of^{4480 854} them for money,³⁷⁰¹ that ye may eat;³⁹⁸ and ye shall also¹⁵⁷¹ buy³⁷³⁹ water⁴³²⁵ of^{4480 854} them for money,³⁷⁰¹ that ye may drink.⁸³⁵⁴

7  For³⁵⁸⁸ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ thy God⁴³⁰ hath blessed¹²⁸⁸ thee in all³⁶⁰⁵ the works⁴⁶³⁹ of thy hand:³⁰²⁷ he knoweth³⁰⁴⁵ thy walking through^{1980 853} this²⁰⁸⁸ great¹⁴¹⁹ wilderness:⁴⁰⁵⁷ these²⁰⁸⁸ forty⁷⁰⁵ years⁸¹⁴¹ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ thy God⁴³⁰ hath been with⁵⁹⁷³ thee; thou hast lacked²⁶³⁷ nothing.^{3808 1697}

8  And when we passed by⁵⁶⁷⁴ from^{4480 854} our brethren²⁵¹ the children¹¹²¹ of Esau,⁶²¹⁵ which dwelt³⁴²⁷ in Seir,⁸¹⁶⁵ through the way^{4480 1870} of the plain⁶¹⁶⁰ from Elath,^{4480 359} and from Ezion-gaber,^{4480 6100} we turned⁶⁴³⁷ and passed⁵⁶⁷⁴ by the way¹⁸⁷⁰ of the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ of Moab.⁴¹²⁴

9  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ me, Distress⁶⁶⁹⁶ not^{408 853} the Moabites,⁴¹²⁴ neither⁴⁰⁸ contend¹⁶²⁴ with them in battle:⁴⁴²¹ for³⁵⁸⁸ I will not³⁸⁰⁸ give⁵⁴¹⁴ thee of their land^{4480 776} for a possession;³⁴²⁵ because³⁵⁸⁸ I have given^{5414 853} Ar⁶¹⁴⁴ unto the children¹¹²¹ of Lot³⁸⁷⁶ for a possession.³⁴²⁵

10  The Emims³⁶⁸ dwelt³⁴²⁷ therein in times past,⁶⁴⁴⁰ a people⁵⁹⁷¹ great,¹⁴¹⁹ and many,⁷²²⁷ and tall,⁷³¹¹ as the Anakims;⁶⁰⁶²

11  Which¹⁹⁹² also⁶³⁷ were accounted²⁸⁰³ giants,⁷⁴⁹⁷ as the Anakims;⁶⁰⁶² but the Moabites⁴¹²⁵ call⁷¹²¹ them Emims.³⁶⁸

12  The Horims²⁷⁵² also dwelt³⁴²⁷ in Seir⁸¹⁶⁵ formerly;⁶⁴⁴⁰ but the children¹¹²¹ of Esau⁶²¹⁵ succeeded³⁴²³ them, when they had destroyed⁸⁰⁴⁵ them from before^{4480 6440} them, and dwelt³⁴²⁷ in their stead;⁸⁴⁷⁸ as⁸³⁴ Israel³⁴⁷⁸ did⁶²¹³ unto the land⁷⁷⁶ of his possession,³⁴²⁵ which⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ gave⁵⁴¹⁴ unto them.

13  Now⁶²⁵⁸ rise up,⁶⁹⁶⁵ said I, and get you over^{5674 853} the brook⁵¹⁵⁸ Zered.²²¹⁸ And we went over^{5674 853} the brook⁵¹⁵⁸ Zered.²²¹⁸

14  And the space³¹¹⁷ in which⁸³⁴ we came¹⁹⁸⁰ from Kadesh-barnea,^{4480 6947} until^{5704 834} we were come over^{5674 853} the brook⁵¹⁵⁸ Zered,²²¹⁸ was thirty⁷⁹⁷⁰ and eight⁸⁰⁸³ years;⁸¹⁴¹ until⁵⁷⁰⁴ all³⁶⁰⁵ the generation¹⁷⁵⁵ of the men³⁷⁶ of war⁴⁴²¹ were wasted⁸⁵⁵² out from among^{4480 7130} the host,⁴²⁶⁴ as⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ swore⁷⁶⁵⁰ unto them.

15  For indeed¹⁵⁷¹ the hand³⁰²⁷ of the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ was¹⁹⁶¹ against them, to destroy²⁰⁰⁰ them from among^{4480 7130} the host,⁴²⁶⁴ until⁵⁷⁰⁴ they were consumed.⁸⁵⁵²

16  So it came to pass,¹⁹⁶¹ when⁸³⁴ all³⁶⁰⁵ the men³⁷⁶ of war⁴⁴²¹ were consumed⁸⁵⁵² and dead⁴¹⁹¹ from among^{4480 7130} the people,⁵⁹⁷¹

17  That the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ spoke¹⁶⁹⁶ unto⁴¹³ me, saying,⁵⁵⁹

18  Thou⁸⁵⁹ art to pass over⁵⁶⁷⁴ through ⁸⁵³ Ar^{6144 853} the coast¹³⁶⁶ of Moab,⁴¹²⁴ this day:³¹¹⁷

19  And when thou comest nigh⁷¹²⁶ over against⁴¹³⁶ the children¹¹²¹ of Ammon,⁵⁹⁸³ distress⁶⁶⁹⁶ them not,⁴⁰⁸ nor⁴⁰⁸ meddle¹⁶²⁴ with them: for³⁵⁸⁸ I will not³⁸⁰⁸ give⁵⁴¹⁴ thee of the land^{4480 776} of the children¹¹²¹ of Ammon⁵⁹⁸³ any possession;³⁴²⁵ because³⁵⁸⁸ I have given⁵⁴¹⁴ it unto the children¹¹²¹ of Lot³⁸⁷⁶ for a possession.³⁴²⁵

20  ( That¹⁹³¹ also⁶³⁷ was accounted²⁸⁰³ a land⁷⁷⁶ of giants:⁷⁴⁹⁷ giants⁷⁴⁹⁷ dwelt³⁴²⁷ therein in old time;⁶⁴⁴⁰ and the Ammonites⁵⁹⁸⁴ call⁷¹²¹ them Zamzummims;²¹⁵⁷

21  A people⁵⁹⁷¹ great,¹⁴¹⁹ and many,⁷²²⁷ and tall,⁷³¹¹ as the Anakims;⁶⁰⁶² but the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ destroyed⁸⁰⁴⁵ them before^{4480 6440} them; and they succeeded³⁴²³ them, and dwelt³⁴²⁷ in their stead:⁸⁴⁷⁸

22  As⁸³⁴ he did⁶²¹³ to the children¹¹²¹ of Esau,⁶²¹⁵ which dwelt³⁴²⁷ in Seir,⁸¹⁶⁵ when⁸³⁴ he destroyed^{8045 853} the Horims²⁷⁵² from before^{4480 6440} them; and they succeeded³⁴²³ them, and dwelt³⁴²⁷ in their stead⁸⁴⁷⁸ even unto⁵⁷⁰⁴ this²⁰⁸⁸ day:³¹¹⁷

23  And the Avims⁵⁷⁵⁷ which dwelt³⁴²⁷ in Hazerim,²⁶⁹⁹ even unto⁵⁷⁰⁴ Azzah,⁵⁸⁰⁴ the Caphtorims,³⁷³² which came forth³³¹⁸ out of Caphtor,^{4480 3731} destroyed⁸⁰⁴⁵ them, and dwelt³⁴²⁷ in their stead.)⁸⁴⁷⁸

24  Rise ye up,⁶⁹⁶⁵ take your journey,⁵²⁶⁵ and pass over^{5674 853} the river⁵¹⁵⁸ Arnon:⁷⁶⁹ behold,⁷²⁰⁰ I have given⁵⁴¹⁴ into thine hand^{3027 853} Sihon⁵⁵¹¹ the Amorite,⁵⁶⁷ king⁴⁴²⁸ of Heshbon,²⁸⁰⁹ and his land:⁷⁷⁶ begin²⁴⁹⁰ to possess³⁴²³ it, and contend¹⁶²⁴ with him in battle.⁴⁴²¹

25  This²⁰⁸⁸ day³¹¹⁷ will I begin²⁴⁹⁰ to put⁵⁴¹⁴ the dread⁶³⁴³ of thee and the fear³³⁷⁴ of thee upon⁵⁹²¹ the nations⁵⁹⁷¹ that are under⁸⁴⁷⁸ the whole³⁶⁰⁵ heaven,⁸⁰⁶⁴ who⁸³⁴ shall hear⁸⁰⁸⁵ report⁸⁰⁸⁸ of thee, and shall tremble,⁷²⁶⁴ and be in anguish²³⁴² because^{4480 6440} of thee.

26  And I sent⁷⁹⁷¹ messengers⁴³⁹⁷ out of the wilderness^{4480 4057} of Kedemoth⁶⁹³² unto⁴¹³ Sihon⁵⁵¹¹ king⁴⁴²⁸ of Heshbon²⁸⁰⁹ with words¹⁶⁹⁷ of peace,⁷⁹⁶⁵ saying,⁵⁵⁹

27  Let me pass⁵⁶⁷⁴ through thy land:⁷⁷⁶ I will go¹⁹⁸⁰ along by the highway,^{1870 1870} I will neither³⁸⁰⁸ turn⁵⁴⁹³ unto the right hand³²²⁵ nor to the left.⁸⁰⁴⁰

28  Thou shalt sell⁷⁶⁶⁶ me meat⁴⁰⁰ for money,³⁷⁰¹ that I may eat;³⁹⁸ and give⁵⁴¹⁴ me water⁴³²⁵ for money,³⁷⁰¹ that I may drink:⁸³⁵⁴ only⁷⁵³⁵ I will pass through⁵⁶⁷⁴ on my feet;⁷²⁷²

29  (As⁸³⁴ the children¹¹²¹ of Esau⁶²¹⁵ which dwell³⁴²⁷ in Seir,⁸¹⁶⁵ and the Moabites⁴¹²⁵ which dwell³⁴²⁷ in Ar,⁶¹⁴⁴ did⁶²¹³ unto me;) until^{5704 834} I shall pass over^{5674 853} Jordan³³⁸³ into⁴¹³ the land⁷⁷⁶ which⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ our God⁴³⁰ giveth⁵⁴¹⁴ us.

30  But Sihon⁵⁵¹¹ king⁴⁴²⁸ of Heshbon²⁸⁰⁹ would¹⁴ not³⁸⁰⁸ let us pass⁵⁶⁷⁴ by him: for³⁵⁸⁸ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ thy God⁴³⁰ hardened^{7185 853} his spirit,⁷³⁰⁷ and made his heart obstinate,^{553 853 3824} that⁴⁶¹⁶ he might deliver⁵⁴¹⁴ him into thy hand,³⁰²⁷ as appeareth this²⁰⁸⁸ day.³¹¹⁷

31  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ me, Behold,⁷²⁰⁰ I have begun²⁴⁹⁰ to give^{5414 853} Sihon⁵⁵¹¹ and his land⁷⁷⁶ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ thee: begin²⁴⁹⁰ to possess,³⁴²³ that thou mayest inherit^{3423 853} his land.⁷⁷⁶

32  Then Sihon⁵⁵¹¹ came out³³¹⁸ against⁷¹²⁵ us, he¹⁹³¹ and all³⁶⁰⁵ his people,⁵⁹⁷¹ to fight⁴⁴²¹ at Jahaz.³⁰⁹⁶

33  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ our God⁴³⁰ delivered⁵⁴¹⁴ him before⁶⁴⁴⁰ us; and we smote^{5221 853} him, and his sons,¹¹²¹ and all³⁶⁰⁵ his people.⁵⁹⁷¹

34  And we took^{3920 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ his cities⁵⁸⁹² at that¹⁹³¹ time,⁶²⁵⁶ and utterly destroyed²⁷⁶³ the men,⁴⁹⁶² and the women,⁸⁰² and the little ones,^{2945 853} of every³⁶⁰⁵ city,⁵⁸⁹² we left⁷⁶⁰⁴ none³⁸⁰⁸ to remain:⁸³⁰⁰

35  Only⁷⁵³⁵ the cattle⁹²⁹ we took for a prey⁹⁶² unto ourselves, and the spoil⁷⁹⁹⁸ of the cities⁵⁸⁹² which⁸³⁴ we took.³⁹²⁰

36  From⁴⁴⁸⁰ Aroer,⁶¹⁷⁷ which⁸³⁴ is by⁵⁹²¹ the brink⁸¹⁹³ of the river⁵¹⁵⁸ of Arnon,⁷⁶⁹ and from the city⁵⁸⁹² that⁸³⁴ is by the river,⁵¹⁵⁸ even unto⁵⁷⁰⁴ Gilead,¹⁵⁶⁸ there was¹⁹⁶¹ not³⁸⁰⁸ one city⁷¹⁵¹ too strong⁷⁶⁸² for⁴⁴⁸⁰ us: the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ our God⁴³⁰ delivered^{5414 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ unto⁶⁴⁴⁰ us:

37  Only⁷⁵³⁵ unto⁴¹³ the land⁷⁷⁶ of the children¹¹²¹ of Ammon⁵⁹⁸³ thou camest⁷¹²⁶ not,³⁸⁰⁸ nor unto any³⁶⁰⁵ place³⁰²⁷ of the river⁵¹⁵⁸ Jabbok,²⁹⁹⁹ nor unto the cities⁵⁸⁹² in the mountains,²⁰²² nor unto whatsoever³⁶⁰⁵ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ our God⁴³⁰ forbade⁶⁶⁸⁰ us.

1 καὶ ἐπιστραφέντες ἀπήραμεν εἰς τὴν ἔρημον ὁδὸν θάλασσαν ἐρυθράν ὃν τρόπον ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρός με καὶ ἐκυκλώσαμεν τὸ ὄρος τὸ Σηιρ ἡμέρας πολλάς

2 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρός με

3 ἱκανούσθω ὑμῖν κυκλοῦν τὸ ὄρος τοῦτο ἐπιστράφητε οὖν ἐπὶ βορρᾶν

4 καὶ τῷ λαῷ ἔντειλαι λέγων ὑμεῖς παραπορεύεσθε διὰ τῶν ὁρίων τῶν ἀδελφῶν ὑμῶν υἱῶν Ησαυ οἳ κατοικοῦσιν ἐν Σηιρ καὶ φοβηθήσονται ὑμᾶς καὶ εὐλαβηθήσονται ὑμᾶς σφόδρα

5 μὴ συνάψητε πρὸς αὐτοὺς πόλεμον οὐ γὰρ μὴ δῶ ὑμῖν ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς αὐτῶν οὐδὲ βῆμα ποδός ὅτι ἐν κλήρῳ δέδωκα τοῖς υἱοῖς Ησαυ τὸ ὄρος τὸ Σηιρ

6 βρώματα ἀργυρίου ἀγοράσατε παρ᾽ αὐτῶν καὶ φάγεσθε καὶ ὕδωρ μέτρῳ λήμψεσθε παρ᾽ αὐτῶν ἀργυρίου καὶ πίεσθε

7 ὁ γὰρ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν εὐλόγησέν σε ἐν παντὶ ἔργῳ τῶν χειρῶν σου διάγνωθι πῶς διῆλθες τὴν ἔρημον τὴν μεγάλην καὶ τὴν φοβερὰν ἐκείνην ἰδοὺ τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη κύριος ὁ θεός σου μετὰ σοῦ οὐκ ἐπεδεήθης ῥήματος

8 καὶ παρήλθομεν τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ἡμῶν υἱοὺς Ησαυ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐν Σηιρ παρὰ τὴν ὁδὸν τὴν Αραβα ἀπὸ Αιλων καὶ ἀπὸ Γασιωνγαβερ καὶ ἐπιστρέψαντες παρήλθομεν ὁδὸν ἔρημον Μωαβ

9 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρός με μὴ ἐχθραίνετε τοῖς Μωαβίταις καὶ μὴ συνάψητε πρὸς αὐτοὺς πόλεμον οὐ γὰρ μὴ δῶ ὑμῖν ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς αὐτῶν ἐν κλήρῳ τοῖς γὰρ υἱοῖς Λωτ δέδωκα τὴν Σηιρ κληρονομεῖν

10 οἱ Ομμιν πρότεροι ἐνεκάθηντο ἐπ᾽ αὐτῆς ἔθνος μέγα καὶ πολὺ καὶ ἰσχύοντες ὥσπερ οἱ Ενακιμ

11 Ραφαϊν λογισθήσονται καὶ οὗτοι ὥσπερ οἱ Ενακιμ καὶ οἱ Μωαβῖται ἐπονομάζουσιν αὐτοὺς Ομμιν

12 καὶ ἐν Σηιρ ἐνεκάθητο ὁ Χορραῖος πρότερον καὶ υἱοὶ Ησαυ ἀπώλεσαν αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐξέτριψαν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν καὶ κατῳκίσθησαν ἀντ᾽ αὐτῶν ὃν τρόπον ἐποίησεν Ισραηλ τὴν γῆν τῆς κληρονομίας αὐτοῦ ἣν δέδωκεν κύριος αὐτοῖς

13 νῦν οὖν ἀνάστητε καὶ ἀπάρατε ὑμεῖς καὶ παραπορεύεσθε τὴν φάραγγα Ζαρετ καὶ παρήλθομεν τὴν φάραγγα Ζαρετ

14 καὶ αἱ ἡμέραι ἃς παρεπορεύθημεν ἀπὸ Καδης Βαρνη ἕως οὗ παρήλθομεν τὴν φάραγγα Ζαρετ τριάκοντα καὶ ὀκτὼ ἔτη ἕως οὗ διέπεσεν πᾶσα γενεὰ ἀνδρῶν πολεμιστῶν ἀποθνῄσκοντες ἐκ τῆς παρεμβολῆς καθότι ὤμοσεν αὐτοῖς ὁ θεός

15 καὶ ἡ χεὶρ τοῦ θεοῦ ἦν ἐπ᾽ αὐτοῖς ἐξαναλῶσαι αὐτοὺς ἐκ τῆς παρεμβολῆς ἕως οὗ διέπεσαν

16 καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐπεὶ διέπεσαν πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ πολεμισταὶ ἀποθνῄσκοντες ἐκ μέσου τοῦ λαοῦ

17 καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρός με λέγων

18 σὺ παραπορεύσῃ σήμερον τὰ ὅρια Μωαβ τὴν Σηιρ

19 καὶ προσάξετε ἐγγὺς υἱῶν Αμμαν μὴ ἐχθραίνετε αὐτοῖς καὶ μὴ συνάψητε αὐτοῖς εἰς πόλεμον οὐ γὰρ μὴ δῶ ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς υἱῶν Αμμαν σοὶ ἐν κλήρῳ ὅτι τοῖς υἱοῖς Λωτ δέδωκα αὐτὴν ἐν κλήρῳ

20 γῆ Ραφαϊν λογισθήσεται καὶ γὰρ ἐπ᾽ αὐτῆς κατῴκουν οἱ Ραφαϊν τὸ πρότερον καὶ οἱ Αμμανῖται ὀνομάζουσιν αὐτοὺς Ζομζομμιν

21 ἔθνος μέγα καὶ πολὺ καὶ δυνατώτερον ὑμῶν ὥσπερ οἱ Ενακιμ καὶ ἀπώλεσεν αὐτοὺς κύριος πρὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν καὶ κατεκληρονόμησαν καὶ κατῳκίσθησαν ἀντ᾽ αὐτῶν ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης

22 ὥσπερ ἐποίησαν τοῖς υἱοῖς Ησαυ τοῖς κατοικοῦσιν ἐν Σηιρ ὃν τρόπον ἐξέτριψαν τὸν Χορραῖον ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν καὶ κατεκληρονόμησαν καὶ κατῳκίσθησαν ἀντ᾽ αὐτῶν ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης

23 καὶ οἱ Ευαῖοι οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν ασηρωθ ἕως Γάζης καὶ οἱ Καππάδοκες οἱ ἐξελθόντες ἐκ Καππαδοκίας ἐξέτριψαν αὐτοὺς καὶ κατῳκίσθησαν ἀντ᾽ αὐτῶν

24 νῦν οὖν ἀνάστητε καὶ ἀπάρατε καὶ παρέλθατε ὑμεῖς τὴν φάραγγα Αρνων ἰδοὺ παραδέδωκα εἰς τὰς χεῖράς σου τὸν Σηων βασιλέα Εσεβων τὸν Αμορραῖον καὶ τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ ἐνάρχου κληρονομεῖν σύναπτε πρὸς αὐτὸν πόλεμον

25 ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ ἐνάρχου δοῦναι τὸν τρόμον σου καὶ τὸν φόβον σου ἐπὶ πρόσωπον πάντων τῶν ἐθνῶν τῶν ὑποκάτω τοῦ οὐρανοῦ οἵτινες ἀκούσαντες τὸ ὄνομά σου ταραχθήσονται καὶ ὠδῖνας ἕξουσιν ἀπὸ προσώπου σου

26 καὶ ἀπέστειλα πρέσβεις ἐκ τῆς ἐρήμου Κεδαμωθ πρὸς Σηων βασιλέα Εσεβων λόγοις εἰρηνικοῖς λέγων

27 παρελεύσομαι διὰ τῆς γῆς σου ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ παρελεύσομαι οὐχὶ ἐκκλινῶ δεξιὰ οὐδὲ ἀριστερά

28 βρώματα ἀργυρίου ἀποδώσῃ μοι καὶ φάγομαι καὶ ὕδωρ ἀργυρίου ἀποδώσῃ μοι καὶ πίομαι πλὴν ὅτι παρελεύσομαι τοῖς ποσίν

29 καθὼς ἐποίησάν μοι οἱ υἱοὶ Ησαυ οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν Σηιρ καὶ οἱ Μωαβῖται οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν Αροηρ ἕως παρέλθω τὸν Ιορδάνην εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν δίδωσιν ἡμῖν

30 καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν Σηων βασιλεὺς Εσεβων παρελθεῖν ἡμᾶς δι᾽ αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἐσκλήρυνεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ καὶ κατίσχυσεν τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ ἵνα παραδοθῇ εἰς τὰς χεῖράς σου ὡς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ

31 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρός με ἰδοὺ ἦργμαι παραδοῦναι πρὸ προσώπου σου τὸν Σηων βασιλέα Εσεβων τὸν Αμορραῖον καὶ τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ ἔναρξαι κληρονομῆσαι τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ

32 καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Σηων βασιλεὺς Εσεβων εἰς συνάντησιν ἡμῖν αὐτὸς καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς αὐτοῦ εἰς πόλεμον Ιασσα

33 καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτὸν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν πρὸ προσώπου ἡμῶν καὶ ἐπατάξαμεν αὐτὸν καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ

34 καὶ ἐκρατήσαμεν πασῶν τῶν πόλεων αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ καὶ ἐξωλεθρεύσαμεν πᾶσαν πόλιν ἑξῆς καὶ τὰς γυναῖκας αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν οὐ κατελίπομεν ζωγρείαν

35 πλὴν τὰ κτήνη ἐπρονομεύσαμεν καὶ τὰ σκῦλα τῶν πόλεων ἐλάβομεν

36 ἐξ Αροηρ ἥ ἐστιν παρὰ τὸ χεῖλος χειμάρρου Αρνων καὶ τὴν πόλιν τὴν οὖσαν ἐν τῇ φάραγγι καὶ ἕως ὄρους τοῦ Γαλααδ οὐκ ἐγενήθη πόλις ἥτις διέφυγεν ἡμᾶς τὰς πάσας παρέδωκεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν εἰς τὰς χεῖρας ἡμῶν

37 πλὴν εἰς γῆν υἱῶν Αμμων οὐ προσήλθομεν πάντα τὰ συγκυροῦντα χειμάρρου Ιαβοκ καὶ τὰς πόλεις τὰς ἐν τῇ ὀρεινῇ καθότι ἐνετείλατο ἡμῖν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν

‎1 ‏וַנֵּ֜פֶן וַנִּסַּ֤ע הַמִּדְבָּ֙רָה֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יַם־ס֔וּף כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֑י וַנָּ֥סָב אֶת־הַר־שֵׂעִ֖יר יָמִ֥ים רַבִּֽים׃ ס

‎2 ‏וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

‎3 ‏רַב־לָכֶ֕ם סֹ֖ב אֶת־הָהָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה פְּנ֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם צָפֹֽנָה׃

‎4 ‏וְאֶת־הָעָם֮ צַ֣ו לֵאמֹר֒ אַתֶּ֣ם עֹֽבְרִ֗ים בִּגְבוּל֙ אֲחֵיכֶ֣ם בְּנֵי־עֵשָׂ֔ו הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים בְּשֵׂעִ֑יר וְיִֽירְא֣וּ מִכֶּ֔ם וְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם מְאֹֽד׃

‎5 ‏אַל־תִּתְגָּר֣וּ בָ֔ם כִּ֠י לֹֽא־אֶתֵּ֤ן לָכֶם֙ מֵֽאַרְצָ֔ם עַ֖ד מִדְרַ֣ךְ כַּף־רָ֑גֶל כִּֽי־יְרֻשָּׁ֣ה לְעֵשָׂ֔ו נָתַ֖תִּי אֶת־הַ֥ר שֵׂעִֽיר׃

‎6 ‏אֹ֣כֶל תִּשְׁבְּר֧וּ מֵֽאִתָּ֛ם בַּכֶּ֖סֶף וַאֲכַלְתֶּ֑ם וְגַם־מַ֜יִם תִּכְר֧וּ מֵאִתָּ֛ם בַּכֶּ֖סֶף וּשְׁתִיתֶֽם׃

‎7 ‏כִּי֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ בֵּֽרַכְךָ֗ בְּכֹל֙ מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה יָדֶ֔ךָ יָדַ֣ע לֶכְתְּךָ֔ אֶת־הַמִּדְבָּ֥ר הַגָּדֹ֖ל הַזֶּ֑ה זֶ֣ה׀ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֗ה יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ עִמָּ֔ךְ לֹ֥א חָסַ֖רְתָּ דָּבָֽר׃

‎8 ‏וַֽנַּעֲבֹ֞ר מֵאֵ֧ת אַחֵ֣ינוּ בְנֵי־עֵשָׂ֗ו הַיֹּֽשְׁבִים֙ בְּשֵׂעִ֔יר מִדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ הָֽעֲרָבָ֔ה מֵאֵילַ֖ת וּמֵעֶצְיֹ֣ן גָּ֑בֶר סוַנֵּ֙פֶן֙ וַֽנַּעֲבֹ֔ר דֶּ֖רֶךְ מִדְבַּ֥ר מוֹאָֽב׃

‎9 ‏וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י אֶל־תָּ֙צַר֙¹ אֶת־מוֹאָ֔ב וְאַל־תִּתְגָּ֥ר בָּ֖ם מִלְחָמָ֑ה כִּ֠י לֹֽא־אֶתֵּ֨ן לְךָ֤ מֵֽאַרְצוֹ֙ יְרֻשָּׁ֔ה כִּ֣י לִבְנֵי־ל֔וֹט נָתַ֥תִּי אֶת־עָ֖ר יְרֻשָּׁה׃¹

‎10 ‏הָאֵמִ֥ים לְפָנִ֖ים יָ֣שְׁבוּ בָ֑הּ עַ֣ם גָּד֥וֹל וְרַ֛ב וָרָ֖ם כָּעֲנָקִֽים׃

‎11 ‏רְפָאִ֛ים יֵחָשְׁב֥וּ אַף־הֵ֖ם כָּעֲנָקִ֑ים וְהַמֹּ֣אָבִ֔ים יִקְרְא֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם אֵמִֽים׃

‎12 ‏וּבְשֵׂעִ֞יר יָשְׁב֣וּ הַחֹרִים֮ לְפָנִים֒ וּבְנֵ֧י עֵשָׂ֣ו יִֽירָשׁ֗וּם וַיַּשְׁמִידוּם֙ מִפְּנֵיהֶ֔ם וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ תַּחְתָּ֑ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֧ר עָשָׂ֣ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל לְאֶ֙רֶץ֙ יְרֻשָּׁת֔וֹ אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥ן יְהוָ֖ה לָהֶֽם׃

‎13 ‏עַתָּ֗ה קֻ֛מוּ וְעִבְר֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם אֶת־נַ֣חַל זָ֑רֶד וַֽנַּעֲבֹ֖ר אֶת־נַ֥חַל זָֽרֶד׃

‎14 ‏וְהַיָּמִ֞ים אֲשֶׁר־הָלַ֣כְנוּ׀ מִקָּדֵ֣שׁ בַּרְנֵ֗עַ עַ֤ד אֲשֶׁר־עָבַ֙רְנוּ֙ אֶת־נַ֣חַל זֶ֔רֶד שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנֶ֖ה שָׁנָ֑ה עַד־תֹּ֨ם כָּל־הַדּ֜וֹר אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ מִקֶּ֣רֶב הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר נִשְׁבַּ֥ע יְהוָ֖ה לָהֶֽם׃

‎15 ‏וְגַ֤ם יַד־יְהוָה֙ הָ֣יְתָה בָּ֔ם לְהֻמָּ֖ם מִקֶּ֣רֶב הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה עַ֖ד תֻּמָּֽם׃

‎16 ‏וַיְהִ֨י כַאֲשֶׁר־תַּ֜מּוּ כָּל־אַנְשֵׁ֧י הַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה לָמ֖וּת מִקֶּ֥רֶב הָעָֽם׃ ס

‎17 ‏וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

‎18 ‏אַתָּ֨ה עֹבֵ֥ר הַיּ֛וֹם אֶת־גְּב֥וּל מוֹאָ֖ב אֶת־עָֽר׃

‎19 ‏וְקָרַבְתָּ֗ מ֚וּל בְּנֵ֣י עַמּ֔וֹן אַל־תְּצֻרֵ֖ם וְאַל־תִּתְגָּ֣ר בָּ֑ם כִּ֣י לֹֽא־אֶ֠תֵּן מֵאֶ֨רֶץ בְּנֵי־עַמּ֤וֹן לְךָ֙ יְרֻשָּׁ֔ה כִּ֥י לִבְנֵי־ל֖וֹט נְתַתִּ֥יהָ יְרֻשָּֽׁה׃

‎20 ‏אֶֽרֶץ־רְפָאִ֥ים תֵּחָשֵׁ֖ב אַף־הִ֑וא רְפָאִ֤ים יָֽשְׁבוּ־בָהּ֙ לְפָנִ֔ים וְהָֽעַמֹּנִ֔ים יִקְרְא֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם זַמְזֻמִּֽים׃

‎21 ‏עַ֣ם גָּד֥וֹל וְרַ֛ב וָרָ֖ם כָּעֲנָקִ֑ים וַיַּשְׁמִידֵ֤ם יְהוָה֙ מִפְּנֵיהֶ֔ם וַיִּירָשֻׁ֖ם וַיֵּשְׁב֥וּ תַחְתָּֽם׃

‎22 ‏כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר עָשָׂה֙ לִבְנֵ֣י עֵשָׂ֔ו הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים בְּשֵׂעִ֑יר אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִשְׁמִ֤יד אֶת־הַחֹרִי֙ מִפְּנֵיהֶ֔ם וַיִּֽירָשֻׁם֙ וַיֵּשְׁב֣וּ תַחְתָּ֔ם עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

‎23 ‏וְהָֽעַוִּ֛ים הַיֹּשְׁבִ֥ים בַּחֲצֵרִ֖ים עַד־עַזָּ֑ה כַּפְתֹּרִים֙ הַיֹּצְאִ֣ים מִכַּפְתּ֔וֹר הִשְׁמִידֻ֖ם וַיֵּשְׁב֥וּ תַחְתָּֽם׃

‎24 ‏ק֣וּמוּ סְּע֗וּ וְעִבְרוּ֮ אֶת־נַ֣חַל אַרְנֹן֒ רְאֵ֣ה נָתַ֣תִּי בְ֠יָדְךָ אֶת־סִיחֹ֨ן מֶֽלֶךְ־חֶשְׁבּ֧וֹן הָֽאֱמֹרִ֛י וְאֶת־אַרְצ֖וֹ הָחֵ֣ל רָ֑שׁ וְהִתְגָּ֥ר בּ֖וֹ מִלְחָמָֽה׃

‎25 ‏הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֗ה אָחֵל֙ תֵּ֤ת פַּחְדְּךָ֙ וְיִרְאָ֣תְךָ֔ עַל־פְּנֵי֙ הָֽעַמִּ֔ים תַּ֖חַת כָּל־הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם אֲשֶׁ֤ר יִשְׁמְעוּן֙ שִׁמְעֲךָ֔ וְרָגְז֥וּ וְחָל֖וּ מִפָּנֶֽיךָ׃³

‎26 ‏וָאֶשְׁלַ֤ח מַלְאָכִים֙ מִמִּדְבַּ֣ר קְדֵמ֔וֹת אֶל־סִיח֖וֹן מֶ֣לֶךְ חֶשְׁבּ֑וֹן דִּבְרֵ֥י שָׁל֖וֹם לֵאמֹֽר׃

‎27 ‏אֶעְבְּרָ֣ה בְאַרְצֶ֔ךָ בַּדֶּ֥רֶךְ בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ אֵלֵ֑ךְ לֹ֥א אָס֖וּר יָמִ֥ין וּשְׂמֹֽאול׃

‎28 ‏אֹ֣כֶל בַּכֶּ֤סֶף תַּשְׁבִּרֵ֙נִי֙ וְאָכַ֔לְתִּי וּמַ֛יִם בַּכֶּ֥סֶף תִּתֶּן־לִ֖י וְשָׁתִ֑יתִי רַ֖ק אֶעְבְּרָ֥ה בְרַגְלָֽי׃

‎29 ‏כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר עָֽשׂוּ־לִ֜י בְּנֵ֣י עֵשָׂ֗ו הַיֹּֽשְׁבִים֙ בְּשֵׂעִ֔יר וְהַמּ֣וֹאָבִ֔ים הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים בְּעָ֑ר עַ֤ד אֲשֶֽׁר־אֶֽעֱבֹר֙ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן אֶל־הָאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ נֹתֵ֥ן לָֽנוּ׃

‎30 ‏וְלֹ֣א אָבָ֗ה סִיחֹן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן הַעֲבִרֵ֖נוּ בּ֑וֹ כִּֽי־הִקְשָׁה֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ אֶת־רוּח֗וֹ וְאִמֵּץ֙ אֶת־לְבָב֔וֹ לְמַ֛עַן תִּתּ֥וֹ בְיָדְךָ֖ כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ ס

‎31 ‏וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י רְאֵ֗ה הַֽחִלֹּ֙תִי֙ תֵּ֣ת לְפָנֶ֔יךָ אֶת־סִיחֹ֖ן וְאֶת־אַרְצ֑וֹ הָחֵ֣ל רָ֔שׁ לָרֶ֖שֶׁת אֶת־אַרְצֽוֹ׃

‎32 ‏וַיֵּצֵא֩ סִיחֹ֨ן לִקְרָאתֵ֜נוּ ה֧וּא וְכָל־עַמּ֛וֹ לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה יָֽהְצָה׃

‎33 ‏וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֛הוּ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ לְפָנֵ֑ינוּ וַנַּ֥ךְ אֹת֛וֹ וְאֶת־בנו בָּנָ֖יו וְאֶת־כָּל־עַמּֽוֹ׃

‎34 ‏וַנִּלְכֹּ֤ד אֶת־כָּל־עָרָיו֙ בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֔וא וַֽנַּחֲרֵם֙ אֶת־כָּל־עִ֣יר מְתִ֔ם וְהַנָּשִׁ֖ים וְהַטָּ֑ף לֹ֥א הִשְׁאַ֖רְנוּ שָׂרִֽיד׃

‎35 ‏רַ֥ק הַבְּהֵמָ֖ה בָּזַ֣זְנוּ לָ֑נוּ וּשְׁלַ֥ל הֶעָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָכָֽדְנוּ׃

‎36 ‏מֵֽעֲרֹעֵ֡ר אֲשֶׁר֩ עַל־שְׂפַת־נַ֨חַל אַרְנֹ֜ן וְהָעִ֨יר אֲשֶׁ֤ר בַּנַּ֙חַל֙ וְעַד־הַגִּלְעָ֔ד לֹ֤א הָֽיְתָה֙ קִרְיָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׂגְבָ֖ה מִמֶּ֑נּוּ אֶת־הַכֹּ֕ל נָתַ֛ן יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ לְפָנֵֽינוּ׃

‎37 ‏רַ֛ק אֶל־אֶ֥רֶץ בְּנֵי־עַמּ֖וֹן לֹ֣א קָרָ֑בְתָּ כָּל־יַ֞ד נַ֤חַל יַבֹּק֙ וְעָרֵ֣י הָהָ֔ר וְכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֖ה יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃

Vul

1 Profectique inde, venimus in solitudinem, quæ ducit ad mare Rubrum, sicut mihi dixerat Dominus: et circuivimus montem Seir longo tempore.

2 Dixitque Dominus ad me:

3 Sufficit vobis circuire montem istum: ite contra aquilonem:

4 et populo præcipe, dicens: Transibitis per terminos fratrum vestrorum filiorum Esau, qui habitant in Seir, et timebunt vos.

5 Videte ergo diligenter ne moveamini contra eos. Neque enim dabo vobis de terra eorum quantum potest unius pedis calcare vestigium, quia in possessionem Esau dedi montem Seir.

6 Cibos emetis ab eis pecunia, et comedetis: aquam emptam haurietis, et bibetis.

7 Dominus Deus tuus benedixit tibi in omni opere manuum tuarum: novit iter tuum, quomodo transieris solitudinem hanc magnam, per quadraginta annos habitans tecum Dominus Deus tuus, et nihil tibi defuit.

8 Cumque transissemus fratres nostros filios Esau, qui habitabant in Seir, per viam campestrem de Elath, et de Asiongaber, venimus ad iter quod ducit in desertum Moab.

9 Dixitque Dominus ad me: Non pugnes contra Moabitas, nec ineas adversus eos prælium: non enim dabo tibi quidquam de terra eorum, quia filiis Loth tradidi Ar in possessionem.

10 Emim primi fuerunt habitatores ejus, populus magnus, et validus, et tam excelsus ut de Enacim stirpe,

11 quasi gigantes crederentur, et essent similes filiorum Enacim. Denique Moabitæ appellant eos Emim.

12 In Seir autem prius habitaverunt Horrhæi: quibus expulsis atque deletis, habitaverunt filii Esau, sicut fecit Israël in terra possessionis suæ, quam dedit illi Dominus.

13 Surgentes ergo ut transiremus torrentem Zared, venimus ad eum.

14 Tempus autem, quo ambulavimus de Cadesbarne usque ad transitum torrentis Zared, triginta et octo annorum fuit: donec consumeretur omnis generatio hominum bellatorum de castris, sicut juraverat Dominus:

15 cujus manus fuit adversum eos, ut interirent de castrorum medio.

16 Postquam autem universi ceciderunt pugnatores,

17 locutus est Dominus ad me, dicens:

18 Tu transibis hodie terminos Moab, urbem nomine Ar:

19 et accedens in vicina filiorum Ammon, cave ne pugnes contra eos, nec movearis ad prælium: non enim dabo tibi de terra filiorum Ammon, quia filiis Loth dedi eam in possessionem.

20 Terra gigantum reputata est: et in ipsa olim habitaverunt gigantes, quos Ammonitæ vocant Zomzommim,

21 populus magnus, et multus, et proceræ longitudinis, sicut Enacim, quos delevit Dominus a facie eorum: et fecit illos habitare pro eis,

22 sicut fecerat filiis Esau, qui habitant in Seir, delens Horrhæos, et terram eorum illis tradens, quam possident usque in præsens.

23 Hevæos quoque, qui habitabant in Haserim usque Gazan, Cappadoces expulerunt: qui egressi de Cappadocia deleverunt eos, et habitaverunt pro illis.

24 Surgite, et transite torrentem Arnon: ecce tradidi in manu tua Sehon regem Hesebon Amorrhæum, et terram ejus incipe possidere, et committe adversus eum prælium.

25 Hodie incipiam mittere terrorem atque formidinem tuam in populos, qui habitant sub omni cælo: ut audito nomine tuo paveant, et in morem parturientium contremiscant, et dolore teneantur.

26 Misi ergo nuntios de solitudine Cademoth ad Sehon regem Hesebon verbis pacificis, dicens:

27 Transibimus per terram tuam: publica gradiemur via; non declinabimus neque ad dexteram, neque ad sinistram.

28 Alimenta pretio vende nobis, ut vescamur: aquam pecunia tribue, et sic bibemus. Tantum est ut nobis concedas transitum,

29 sicut fecerunt filii Esau, qui habitant in Seir, et Moabitæ, qui morantur in Ar: donec veniamus ad Jordanem, et transeamus ad terram, quam Dominus Deus noster daturus est nobis.

30 Noluitque Sehon rex Hesebon dare nobis transitum: quia induraverat Dominus Deus tuus spiritum ejus, et obfirmaverat cor illius, ut traderetur in manus tuas, sicut nunc vides.

31 Dixitque Dominus ad me: Ecce cœpi tibi tradere Sehon, et terram ejus: incipe possidere eam.

32 Egressusque est Sehon obviam nobis cum omni populo suo ad prælium in Jasa.

33 Et tradidit eum Dominus Deus noster nobis: percussimusque eum cum filiis suis et omni populo suo.

34 Cunctasque urbes in tempore illo cepimus, interfectis habitatoribus earum, viris ac mulieribus et parvulis: non reliquimus in eis quidquam,

35 absque jumentis, quæ in partem venere prædantium: et spoliis urbium, quas cepimus

36 ab Aroër, quæ est super ripam torrentis Arnon, oppido quod in valle situm est, usque Galaad. Non fuit vicus et civitas, quæ nostras effugeret manus: omnes tradidit Dominus Deus noster nobis,

37 absque terra filiorum Ammon, ad quam non accessimus: et cunctis quæ adjacent torrenti Jeboc, et urbibus montanis, universisque locis, a quibus nos prohibuit Dominus Deus noster.
