1  The burden⁴⁸⁵³ of Nineveh.⁵²¹⁰ The book⁵⁶¹² of the vision²³⁷⁷ of Nahum⁵¹⁵¹ the Elkoshite.⁵¹²

2  God⁴¹⁰ is jealous,⁷⁰⁷² and the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ revengeth;⁵³⁵⁸ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ revengeth,⁵³⁵⁸ and is furious;^{1167 2534} the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ will take vengeance⁵³⁵⁸ on his adversaries,⁶⁸⁶² and he¹⁹³¹ reserveth⁵²⁰¹ wrath for his enemies.³⁴¹

3  The LORD³⁰⁶⁸ is slow⁷⁵⁰ to anger,⁶³⁹ and great¹⁴¹⁹ in power,³⁵⁸¹ and will not at all acquit^{5352 3808 5352} the wicked: the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ hath his way¹⁸⁷⁰ in the whirlwind⁵⁴⁹² and in the storm,⁸¹⁸³ and the clouds⁶⁰⁵¹ are the dust⁸⁰ of his feet.⁷²⁷²

4  He rebuketh¹⁶⁰⁵ the sea,³²²⁰ and maketh it dry,³⁰⁰¹ and drieth up²⁷¹⁷ all³⁶⁰⁵ the rivers:⁵¹⁰⁴ Bashan¹³¹⁶ languisheth,⁵³⁵ and Carmel,³⁷⁶⁰ and the flower⁶⁵²⁵ of Lebanon³⁸⁴⁴ languisheth.⁵³⁵

5  The mountains²⁰²² quake⁷⁴⁹³ at⁴⁴⁸⁰ him, and the hills¹³⁸⁹ melt,⁴¹²⁷ and the earth⁷⁷⁶ is burned⁵³⁷⁵ at his presence,^{4480 6440} yea, the world,⁸³⁹⁸ and all³⁶⁰⁵ that dwell³⁴²⁷ therein.

6  Who⁴³¹⁰ can stand⁵⁹⁷⁵ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ his indignation?²¹⁹⁵ and who⁴³¹⁰ can abide⁶⁹⁶⁵ in the fierceness²⁷⁴⁰ of his anger?⁶³⁹ his fury²⁵³⁴ is poured out⁵⁴¹³ like fire,⁷⁸⁴ and the rocks⁶⁶⁹⁷ are thrown down⁵⁴²² by⁴⁴⁸⁰ him.

7  The LORD³⁰⁶⁸ is good,²⁸⁹⁶ a stronghold⁴⁵⁸¹ in the day³¹¹⁷ of trouble;⁶⁸⁶⁹ and he knoweth³⁰⁴⁵ them that trust²⁶²⁰ in him.

8  But with an overrunning⁵⁶⁷⁴ flood⁷⁸⁵⁸ he will make⁶²¹³ an utter end³⁶¹⁷ of the place⁴⁷²⁵ thereof, and darkness²⁸²² shall pursue⁷²⁹¹ his enemies.³⁴¹

9  What⁴¹⁰⁰ do ye imagine²⁸⁰³ against⁴¹³ the LORD?³⁰⁶⁸ he¹⁹³¹ will make⁶²¹³ an utter end:³⁶¹⁷ affliction⁶⁸⁶⁹ shall not³⁸⁰⁸ rise up⁶⁹⁶⁵ the second time.⁶⁴⁷¹

10  For³⁵⁸⁸ while⁵⁷⁰⁴ they be folded together⁵⁴⁴⁰ as thorns,⁵⁵¹⁸ and while they are drunken⁵⁴³⁵ as drunkards,⁵⁴³³ they shall be devoured³⁹⁸ as stubble⁷¹⁷⁹ fully⁴³⁹⁰ dry.³⁰⁰²

11  There is one come out³³¹⁸ of⁴⁴⁸⁰ thee, that imagineth²⁸⁰³ evil⁷⁴⁵¹ against⁵⁹²¹ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ a wicked¹¹⁰⁰ counselor.³²⁸⁹

12  Thus³⁵⁴¹ saith⁵⁵⁹ the LORD;³⁰⁶⁸ Though⁵¹⁸ they be quiet,⁸⁰⁰³ and likewise³⁶⁵¹ many,⁷²²⁷ yet thus³⁶⁵¹ shall they be cut down,¹⁴⁹⁴ when he shall pass through.⁵⁶⁷⁴ Though I have afflicted⁶⁰³¹ thee, I will afflict⁶⁰³¹ thee no³⁸⁰⁸ more.⁵⁷⁵⁰

13  For now⁶²⁵⁸ will I break⁷⁶⁶⁵ his yoke⁴¹³² from off^{4480 5921} thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.^{5423 4147}

14  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ hath given a commandment⁶⁶⁸⁰ concerning⁵⁹²¹ thee, that no³⁸⁰⁸ more⁵⁷⁵⁰ of thy name^{4480 8034} be sown:²²³² out of the house^{4480 1004} of thy gods⁴³⁰ will I cut off³⁷⁷² the graven image⁶⁴⁵⁹ and the molten image:⁴⁵⁴¹ I will make⁷⁷⁶⁰ thy grave;⁶⁹¹³ for³⁵⁸⁸ thou art vile.⁷⁰⁴³

15  Behold²⁰⁰⁹ upon⁵⁹²¹ the mountains²⁰²² the feet⁷²⁷² of him that bringeth good tidings,¹³¹⁹ that publisheth⁸⁰⁸⁵ peace!⁷⁹⁶⁵ O Judah,³⁰⁶³ keep²²⁸⁷ thy solemn feasts,²²⁸² perform⁷⁹⁹⁹ thy vows:⁵⁰⁸⁸ for³⁵⁸⁸ the wicked¹¹⁰⁰ shall no³⁸⁰⁸ more^{3254 5750} pass through⁵⁶⁷⁴ thee; he is utterly³⁶⁰⁵ cut off.³⁷⁷²

3 κύριος μακρόθυμος καὶ μεγάλη ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀθῳῶν οὐκ ἀθῳώσει κύριος ἐν συντελείᾳ καὶ ἐν συσσεισμῷ ἡ ὁδὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ νεφέλαι κονιορτὸς ποδῶν αὐτοῦ

4 ἀπειλῶν θαλάσσῃ καὶ ξηραίνων αὐτὴν καὶ πάντας τοὺς ποταμοὺς ἐξερημῶν ὠλιγώθη ἡ Βασανῖτις καὶ ὁ Κάρμηλος καὶ τὰ ἐξανθοῦντα τοῦ Λιβάνου ἐξέλιπεν

5 τὰ ὄρη ἐσείσθησαν ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ καὶ οἱ βουνοὶ ἐσαλεύθησαν καὶ ἀνεστάλη ἡ γῆ ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ ἡ σύμπασα καὶ πάντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν αὐτῇ

6 ἀπὸ προσώπου ὀργῆς αὐτοῦ τίς ὑποστήσεται καὶ τίς ἀντιστήσεται ἐν ὀργῇ θυμοῦ αὐτοῦ ὁ θυμὸς αὐτοῦ τήκει ἀρχάς καὶ αἱ πέτραι διεθρύβησαν ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ

7 χρηστὸς κύριος τοῖς ὑπομένουσιν αὐτὸν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ θλίψεως καὶ γινώσκων τοὺς εὐλαβουμένους αὐτόν

8 καὶ ἐν κατακλυσμῷ πορείας συντέλειαν ποιήσεται τοὺς ἐπεγειρομένους καὶ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτοῦ διώξεται σκότος

9 τί λογίζεσθε ἐπὶ τὸν κύριον συντέλειαν αὐτὸς ποιήσεται οὐκ ἐκδικήσει δὶς ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ ἐν θλίψει

10 ὅτι ἕως θεμελίου αὐτῶν χερσωθήσεται καὶ ὡς σμῖλαξ περιπλεκομένη βρωθήσεται καὶ ὡς καλάμη ξηρασίας μεστή

11 ἐκ σοῦ ἐξελεύσεται λογισμὸς κατὰ τοῦ κυρίου πονηρὰ λογιζόμενος ἐναντία

12 τάδε λέγει κύριος κατάρχων ὑδάτων πολλῶν καὶ οὕτως διασταλήσονται καὶ ἡ ἀκοή σου οὐκ ἐνακουσθήσεται ἔτι

13 καὶ νῦν συντρίψω τὴν ῥάβδον αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ τοὺς δεσμούς σου διαρρήξω

14 καὶ ἐντελεῖται ὑπὲρ σοῦ κύριος οὐ σπαρήσεται ἐκ τοῦ ὀνόματός σου ἔτι ἐξ οἴκου θεοῦ σου ἐξολεθρεύσω τὰ γλυπτὰ καὶ χωνευτά θήσομαι ταφήν σου ὅτι ταχεῖς

‎1 ‏מַשָּׂ֖א נִֽינְוֵ֑ה סֵ֧פֶר חֲז֛וֹן נַח֖וּם הָאֶלְקֹשִֽׁי׃

‎2 ‏אֵ֣ל קַנּ֤וֹא וְנֹקֵם֙ יְהוָ֔ה נֹקֵ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה וּבַ֣עַל חֵמָ֑ה נֹקֵ֤ם יְהוָה֙ לְצָרָ֔יו וְנוֹטֵ֥ר ה֖וּא לְאֹיְבָֽיו׃

‎3 ‏יְהוָֹ֗ה אֶ֤רֶךְ אַפַּ֙יִם֙ וגדול־ וּגְדָל־ כֹּ֔חַ וְנַקֵּ֖ה לֹ֣א יְנַקֶּ֑ה יְהוָ֗ה בְּסוּפָ֤ה וּבִשְׂעָרָה֙ דַּרְכּ֔וֹ וְעָנָ֖ן אֲבַ֥ק רַגְלָֽיו׃

‎4 ‏גּוֹעֵ֤ר בַּיָּם֙ וַֽיַּבְּשֵׁ֔הוּ וְכָל־הַנְּהָר֖וֹת הֶֽחֱרִ֑יב אֻמְלַ֤ל בָּשָׁן֙ וְכַרְמֶ֔ל וּפֶ֥רַח לְבָנ֖וֹן אֻמְלָֽל׃

‎5 ‏הָרִים֙ רָעֲשׁ֣וּ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ וְהַגְּבָע֖וֹת הִתְמֹגָ֑גוּ וַתִּשָּׂ֤א הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ מִפָּנָ֔יו וְתֵבֵ֖ל וְכָל־יֹ֥שְׁבֵי בָֽהּ׃

‎6 ‏לִפְנֵ֤י זַעְמוֹ֙ מִ֣י יַֽעֲמ֔וֹד וּמִ֥י יָק֖וּם בַּחֲר֣וֹן אַפּ֑וֹ חֲמָתוֹ֙ נִתְּכָ֣ה כָאֵ֔שׁ וְהַצֻּרִ֖ים נִתְּצ֥וּ מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

‎7 ‏ט֣וֹב יְהוָ֔ה לְמָע֖וֹז בְּי֣וֹם צָרָ֑ה וְיֹדֵ֖עַ חֹ֥סֵי בֽוֹ׃

‎8 ‏וּבְשֶׁ֣טֶף עֹבֵ֔ר כָּלָ֖ה יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה מְקוֹמָ֑הּ וְאֹיְבָ֖יו יְרַדֶּף־חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃³

‎9 ‏מַה־תְּחַשְּׁבוּן֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה כָּלָ֖ה ה֣וּא עֹשֶׂ֑ה לֹֽא־תָק֥וּם פַּעֲמַ֖יִם צָרָֽה׃

‎10 ‏כִּ֚י עַד־סִירִ֣ים סְבֻכִ֔ים וּכְסָבְאָ֖ם סְבוּאִ֑ים אֻ֨כְּל֔וּ כְּקַ֥שׁ יָבֵ֖שׁ מָלֵֽא׃

‎11 ‏מִמֵּ֣ךְ יָצָ֔א חֹשֵׁ֥ב³ עַל־יְהוָ֖ה רָעָ֑ה יֹעֵ֖ץ בְּלִיָּֽעַל׃ ס

‎12 ‏כֹּ֣ה׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה אִם־שְׁלֵמִים֙ וְכֵ֣ן רַבִּ֔ים וְכֵ֥ן נָגֹ֖זּוּ וְעָבָ֑ר וְעִ֨נִּתִ֔ךְ לֹ֥א אֲעַנֵּ֖ךְ עֽוֹד׃

‎13 ‏וְעַתָּ֕ה אֶשְׁבֹּ֥ר מֹטֵ֖הוּ מֵֽעָלָ֑יִךְ וּמוֹסְרֹתַ֖יִךְ אֲנַתֵּֽק׃

‎14 ‏וְצִוָּ֤ה עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ יְהוָ֔ה לֹֽא־יִזָּרַ֥ע מִשִּׁמְךָ֖ ע֑וֹד מִבֵּ֨ית אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ אַכְרִ֨ית פֶּ֧סֶל וּמַסֵּכָ֛ה אָשִׂ֥ים קִבְרֶ֖ךָ כִּ֥י קַלּֽוֹתָ׃ פ

2 [Deus æmulator, et ulciscens Dominus:
ulciscens Dominus, et habens furorem:
ulciscens Dominus in hostes suos,
et irascens ipse inimicis suis.

3 Dominus patiens, et magnus fortitudine,
et mundans non faciet innocentem.
Dominus in tempestate et turbine viæ ejus,
et nebulæ pulvis pedum ejus.

4 Increpans mare, et exsiccans illud,
et omnia flumina ad desertum deducens.
Infirmatus est Basan et Carmelus,
et flos Libani elanguit.

5 Montes commoti sunt ab eo,
et colles desolati sunt:
et contremuit terra a facie ejus,
et orbis, et omnes habitantes in eo.

6 Ante faciem indignationis ejus quis stabit?
et quis resistet in ira furoris ejus?
Indignatio ejus effusa est ut ignis,
et petræ dissolutæ sunt ab eo.

7 Bonus Dominus,
et confortans in die tribulationis,
et sciens sperantes in se.

8 Et in diluvio prætereunte consummationem faciet loci ejus,
et inimicos ejus persequentur tenebræ.

9 Quid cogitatis contra Dominum?
Consummationem ipse faciet:
non consurget duplex tribulatio,

10 quia sicut spinæ se invicem complectuntur,
sic convivium eorum pariter potantium;
consumentur quasi stipula ariditate plena.

11 Ex te exibit cogitans contra Dominum malitiam,
mente pertractans prævaricationem.

12 Hæc dicit Dominus:
Si perfecti fuerint, et ita plures,
sic quoque attondentur, et pertransibit:
afflixi te, et non affligam te ultra.

13 Et nunc conteram virgam ejus de dorso tuo,
et vincula tua disrumpam.

14 Et præcipiet super te Dominus;
non seminabitur ex nomine tuo amplius:
de domo Dei tui interficiam sculptile, et conflatile;
ponam sepulchrum tuum, quia inhonoratus es.

15 Ecce super montes pedes evangelizantis,
et annuntiantis pacem.
Celebra, Juda, festivitates tuas,
et redde vota tua,
quia non adjiciet ultra ut pertranseat in te Belial:
