1  Then Job³⁴⁷ answered⁶⁰³⁰ and said,⁵⁵⁹

2  Even¹⁵⁷¹ today³¹¹⁷ is my complaint⁷⁸⁷⁹ bitter:⁴⁸⁰⁵ my stroke³⁰²⁷ is heavier³⁵¹³ than⁵⁹²¹ my groaning.⁵⁸⁵

3  Oh that^{4310 5414} I knew³⁰⁴⁵ where I might find⁴⁶⁷² him! that I might come⁹³⁵ even to⁵⁷⁰⁴ his seat!⁸⁴⁹⁹

4  I would order⁶¹⁸⁶ my cause⁴⁹⁴¹ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ him, and fill⁴³⁹⁰ my mouth⁶³¹⁰ with arguments.⁸⁴³³

5  I would know³⁰⁴⁵ the words⁴⁴⁰⁵ which he would answer⁶⁰³⁰ me, and understand⁹⁹⁵ what⁴¹⁰⁰ he would say⁵⁵⁹ unto me.

6  Will he plead⁷³⁷⁸ against⁵⁹⁷⁸ me with his great⁷²³⁰ power?³⁵⁸¹ No;³⁸⁰⁸ but³⁸⁹ he¹⁹³¹ would put⁷⁷⁶⁰ strength in me.

7  There⁸⁰³³ the righteous³⁴⁷⁷ might dispute³¹⁹⁸ with⁵⁹⁷³ him; so should I be delivered⁶⁴⁰³ forever⁵³³¹ from my judge.^{4480 8199}

8  Behold,²⁰⁰⁵ I go¹⁹⁸⁰ forward,⁶⁹²⁴ but he is not³⁶⁹ there; and backward,²⁶⁸ but I cannot³⁸⁰⁸ perceive⁹⁹⁵ him:

9  On the left hand,⁸⁰⁴⁰ where he doth work,⁶²¹³ but I cannot³⁸⁰⁸ behold²³⁷² him: he hideth⁵⁸⁴⁸ himself on the right hand,³²²⁵ that I cannot³⁸⁰⁸ see⁷²⁰⁰ him:

10  But³⁵⁸⁸ he knoweth³⁰⁴⁵ the way¹⁸⁷⁰ that I take:⁵⁹⁷⁸ when he hath tried⁹⁷⁴ me, I shall come forth³³¹⁸ as gold.²⁰⁹¹

11  My foot⁷²⁷² hath held²⁷⁰ his steps,⁸³⁸ his way¹⁸⁷⁰ have I kept,⁸¹⁰⁴ and not³⁸⁰⁸ declined.⁵¹⁸⁶

12  Neither³⁸⁰⁸ have I gone back⁴¹⁸⁵ from the commandment⁴⁶⁸⁷ of his lips;⁸¹⁹³ I have esteemed⁶⁸⁴⁵ the words⁵⁶¹ of his mouth⁶³¹⁰ more than my necessary^{4480 2706} food.

13  But he¹⁹³¹ is in one²⁵⁹ mind, and who⁴³¹⁰ can turn⁷⁷²⁵ him? and what his soul⁵³¹⁵ desireth,¹⁸³ even that he doeth.⁶²¹³

14  For³⁵⁸⁸ he performeth⁷⁹⁹⁹ the thing that is appointed²⁷⁰⁶ for me: and many⁷²²⁷ such²⁰⁰⁷ things are with⁵⁹⁷³ him.

15  Therefore^{5921 3651} am I troubled⁹²⁶ at his presence:^{4480 6440} when I consider,⁹⁹⁵ I am afraid⁶³⁴² of⁴⁴⁸⁰ him.

16  For God⁴¹⁰ maketh my heart soft^{7401 3820} and the Almighty⁷⁷⁰⁶ troubleth⁹²⁶ me:

17  Because³⁵⁸⁸ I was not³⁸⁰⁸ cut off⁶⁷⁸⁹ before^{4480 6440} the darkness,²⁸²² neither hath he covered³⁶⁸⁰ the darkness⁶⁵² from my face.^{4480 6440}

1 ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ιωβ λέγει

2 καὶ δὴ οἶδα ὅτι ἐκ χειρός μου ἡ ἔλεγξίς ἐστιν καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ βαρεῖα γέγονεν ἐπ᾽ ἐμῷ στεναγμῷ

3 τίς δ᾽ ἄρα γνοίη ὅτι εὕροιμι αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλθοιμι εἰς τέλος

4 εἴποιμι δὲ ἐμαυτοῦ κρίμα τὸ δὲ στόμα μου ἐμπλήσαιμι ἐλέγχων

5 γνῴην δὲ ῥήματα ἅ μοι ἐρεῖ αἰσθοίμην δὲ τίνα μοι ἀπαγγελεῖ

6 καὶ εἰ ἐν πολλῇ ἰσχύι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι εἶτα ἐν ἀπειλῇ μοι οὐ χρήσεται

7 ἀλήθεια γὰρ καὶ ἔλεγχος παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐξαγάγοι δὲ εἰς τέλος τὸ κρίμα μου

8 εἰς γὰρ πρῶτα πορεύσομαι καὶ οὐκέτι εἰμί τὰ δὲ ἐπ᾽ ἐσχάτοις τί οἶδα

9 ἀριστερὰ ποιήσαντος αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐ κατέσχον περιβαλεῖ δεξιά καὶ οὐκ ὄψομαι

10 οἶδεν γὰρ ἤδη ὁδόν μου διέκρινεν δέ με ὥσπερ τὸ χρυσίον

11 ἐξελεύσομαι δὲ ἐν ἐντάλμασιν αὐτοῦ ὁδοὺς γὰρ αὐτοῦ ἐφύλαξα καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐκκλίνω

12 ἀπὸ ἐνταλμάτων αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐ μὴ παρέλθω ἐν δὲ κόλπῳ μου ἔκρυψα ῥήματα αὐτοῦ

13 εἰ δὲ καὶ αὐτὸς ἔκρινεν οὕτως τίς ἐστιν ὁ ἀντειπὼν αὐτῷ ὃ γὰρ αὐτὸς ἠθέλησεν καὶ ἐποίησεν

15 διὰ τοῦτο ἐπ᾽ αὐτῷ ἐσπούδακα νουθετούμενος δὲ ἐφρόντισα αὐτοῦ
ἐπὶ τούτῳ ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ κατασπουδασθῶ κατανοήσω καὶ πτοηθήσομαι ἐξ αὐτοῦ

16 κύριος δὲ ἐμαλάκυνεν τὴν καρδίαν μου ὁ δὲ παντοκράτωρ ἐσπούδασέν με

17 οὐ γὰρ ᾔδειν ὅτι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι σκότος πρὸ προσώπου δέ μου ἐκάλυψεν γνόφος

‎2 ‏גַּם־הַ֭יּוֹם מְרִ֣י שִׂחִ֑י יָ֝דִ֗י כָּבְדָ֥ה עַל־אַנְחָתִֽי׃

‎3 ‏מִֽי־יִתֵּ֣ן יָ֭דַעְתִּי וְאֶמְצָאֵ֑הוּ אָ֝ב֗וֹא עַד־תְּכוּנָתֽוֹ׃

‎4 ‏אֶעֶרְכָ֣ה לְפָנָ֣יו מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּ֝פִ֗י אֲמַלֵּ֥א תוֹכָחֽוֹת׃

‎5 ‏אֵ֭דְעָה מִלִּ֣ים יַעֲנֵ֑נִי וְ֝אָבִ֗ינָה מַה־יֹּ֥אמַר לִֽי׃

‎6 ‏הַבְּרָב־כֹּ֖חַ יָרִ֣יב עִמָּדִ֑י לֹ֥א אַךְ־ה֝֗וּא יָשִׂ֥ם בִּֽי׃

‎7 ‏שָׁ֗ם יָ֭שָׁר נוֹכָ֣ח עִמּ֑וֹ וַאֲפַלְּטָ֥ה לָ֝נֶ֗צַח מִשֹּׁפְטִֽי׃

‎8 ‏הֵ֤ן קֶ֣דֶם אֶהֱלֹ֣ךְ וְאֵינֶ֑נּוּ וְ֝אָח֗וֹר וְֽלֹא־אָבִ֥ין לֽוֹ׃

‎9 ‏שְׂמֹ֣אול בַּעֲשֹׂת֣וֹ וְלֹא־אָ֑חַז יַעְטֹ֥ף יָ֝מִ֗ין וְלֹ֣א אֶרְאֶֽה׃

‎10 ‏כִּֽי־יָ֭דַע דֶּ֣רֶךְ עִמָּדִ֑י בְּ֝חָנַ֗נִי כַּזָּהָ֥ב אֵצֵֽא׃

‎11 ‏בַּ֭אֲשֻׁרוֹ אָחֲזָ֣ה רַגְלִ֑י דַּרְכּ֖וֹ שָׁמַ֣רְתִּי וְלֹא־אָֽט׃

‎12 ‏מִצְוַ֣ת שְׂ֭פָתָיו וְלֹ֣א אָמִ֑ישׁ מֵ֝חֻקִּ֗י צָפַ֥נְתִּי אִמְרֵי־פִֽיו׃

‎13 ‏וְה֣וּא בְ֭אֶחָד וּמִ֣י יְשִׁיבֶ֑נּוּ וְנַפְשׁ֖וֹ אִוְּתָ֣ה וַיָּֽעַשׂ׃

‎14 ‏כִּ֭י יַשְׁלִ֣ים חֻקִּ֑י וְכָהֵ֖נָּה רַבּ֣וֹת עִמּֽוֹ׃

‎15 ‏עַל־כֵּ֭ן מִפָּנָ֣יו אֶבָּהֵ֑ל אֶ֝תְבּוֹנֵ֗ן וְאֶפְחַ֥ד מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

‎16 ‏וְ֭אֵל הֵרַ֣ךְ לִבִּ֑י וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י הִבְהִילָֽנִי׃

‎17 ‏כִּֽי־לֹ֣א נִ֭צְמַתִּי מִפְּנֵי־חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וּ֝מִפָּנַ֗י כִּסָּה־אֹֽפֶל׃

Vul

1 Respondens autem Job, ait:

2 [Nunc quoque in amaritudine est sermo meus,
et manus plagæ meæ aggravata est super gemitum meum.

3 Quis mihi tribuat ut cognoscam et inveniam illum,
et veniam usque ad solium ejus?

4 Ponam coram eo judicium,
et os meum replebo increpationibus:

5 ut sciam verba quæ mihi respondeat,
et intelligam quid loquatur mihi.

6 Nolo multa fortitudine contendat mecum,
nec magnitudinis suæ mole me premat.

7 Proponat æquitatem contra me,
et perveniat ad victoriam judicium meum.

8 Si ad orientem iero, non apparet;
si ad occidentem, non intelligam eum.

9 Si ad sinistram, quid agam? non apprehendam eum;
si me vertam ad dexteram, non videbo illum.

10 Ipse vero scit viam meam,
et probavit me quasi aurum quod per ignem transit.

11 Vestigia ejus secutus est pes meus:
viam ejus custodivi, et non declinavi ex ea.

12 A mandatis labiorum ejus non recessi,
et in sinu meo abscondi verba oris ejus.

13 Ipse enim solus est, et nemo avertere potest cogitationem ejus:
et anima ejus quodcumque voluit, hoc fecit.

14 Cum expleverit in me voluntatem suam,
et alia multa similia præsto sunt ei.

15 Et idcirco a facie ejus turbatus sum,
et considerans eum, timore sollicitor.

16 Deus mollivit cor meum,
et Omnipotens conturbavit me.

17 Non enim perii propter imminentes tenebras,
nec faciem meam operuit caligo.]
