1  Then all³⁶⁰⁵ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ went out,³³¹⁸ and the congregation⁵⁷¹² was gathered together⁶⁹⁵⁰ as one²⁵⁹ man,³⁷⁶ from Dan^{4480 1835} even to⁵⁷⁰⁴ Beer-sheba,⁸⁸⁴ with the land⁷⁷⁶ of Gilead,¹⁵⁶⁸ unto⁴¹³ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ in Mizpeh.⁴⁷⁰⁹

2  And the chief⁶⁴³⁸ of all³⁶⁰⁵ the people,⁵⁹⁷¹ even of all³⁶⁰⁵ the tribes⁷⁶²⁶ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ presented themselves³³²⁰ in the assembly⁶⁹⁵¹ of the people⁵⁹⁷¹ of God,⁴³⁰ four⁷⁰² hundred³⁹⁶⁷ thousand⁵⁰⁵ footmen^{376 7273} that drew⁸⁰²⁵ sword.²⁷¹⁹

3  (Now the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ heard⁸⁰⁸⁵ that³⁵⁸⁸ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ were gone up⁵⁹²⁷ to Mizpeh.)⁴⁷⁰⁹ Then said⁵⁵⁹ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ Tell¹⁶⁹⁶ us, how³⁴⁹ was¹⁹⁶¹ this²⁰⁶³ wickedness?⁷⁴⁵¹

4  And the Levite,^{376 3881} the husband³⁷⁶ of the woman⁸⁰² that was slain,⁷⁵²³ answered⁶⁰³⁰ and said,⁵⁵⁹ I came⁹³⁵ into Gibeah¹³⁹⁰ that⁸³⁴ belongeth to Benjamin,¹¹⁴⁴ I⁵⁸⁹ and my concubine,⁶³⁷⁰ to lodge.³⁸⁸⁵

5  And the men¹¹⁶⁷ of Gibeah¹³⁹⁰ rose⁶⁹⁶⁵ against⁵⁹²¹ me, and beset the house round about^{5437 853 1004} upon⁵⁹²¹ me by night,³⁹¹⁵ and thought¹⁸¹⁹ to have slain²⁰²⁶ me: and my concubine⁶³⁷⁰ have they forced,⁶⁰³¹ that she is dead.⁴¹⁹¹

6  And I took²⁷⁰ my concubine,⁶³⁷⁰ and cut her in pieces,⁵⁴⁰⁸ and sent⁷⁹⁷¹ her throughout all³⁶⁰⁵ the country⁷⁷⁰⁴ of the inheritance⁵¹⁵⁹ of Israel:³⁴⁷⁸ for³⁵⁸⁸ they have committed⁶²¹³ lewdness²¹⁵⁴ and folly⁵⁰³⁹ in Israel.³⁴⁷⁸

7  Behold,²⁰⁰⁹ ye are all³⁶⁰⁵ children¹¹²¹ of Israel;³⁴⁷⁸ give³⁰⁵¹ here¹⁹⁸⁸ your advice¹⁶⁹⁷ and counsel.⁶⁰⁹⁸

8  And all³⁶⁰⁵ the people⁵⁹⁷¹ arose⁶⁹⁶⁵ as one²⁵⁹ man,³⁷⁶ saying,⁵⁵⁹ We will not³⁸⁰⁸ any³⁷⁶ of us go¹⁹⁸⁰ to his tent,¹⁶⁸ neither³⁸⁰⁸ will we any³⁷⁶ of us turn⁵⁴⁹³ into his house.¹⁰⁰⁴

9  But now⁶²⁵⁸ this²⁰⁸⁸ shall be the thing¹⁶⁹⁷ which⁸³⁴ we will do⁶²¹³ to Gibeah;¹³⁹⁰ we will go up by lot¹⁴⁸⁶ against⁵⁹²¹ it;

10  And we will take³⁹⁴⁷ ten⁶²³⁵ men³⁷⁶ of a hundred³⁹⁶⁷ throughout all³⁶⁰⁵ the tribes⁷⁶²⁶ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ and a hundred³⁹⁶⁷ of a thousand,⁵⁰⁵ and a thousand⁵⁰⁵ out of ten thousand,⁷²³³ to fetch³⁹⁴⁷ victual⁶⁷²⁰ for the people,⁵⁹⁷¹ that they may do,⁶²¹³ when they come⁹³⁵ to Gibeah¹³⁸⁷ of Benjamin,¹¹⁴⁴ according to all³⁶⁰⁵ the folly⁵⁰³⁹ that⁸³⁴ they have wrought⁶²¹³ in Israel.³⁴⁷⁸

11  So all³⁶⁰⁵ the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ were gathered⁶²² against⁴¹³ the city,⁵⁸⁹² knit together²²⁷⁰ as one²⁵⁹ man.³⁷⁶

12  And the tribes⁷⁶²⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ sent⁷⁹⁷¹ men³⁷⁶ through all³⁶⁰⁵ the tribe⁷⁶²⁶ of Benjamin,¹¹⁴⁴ saying,⁵⁵⁹ What⁴¹⁰⁰ wickedness⁷⁴⁵¹ is this²⁰⁶³ that⁸³⁴ is done¹⁹⁶¹ among you?

13  Now⁶²⁵⁸ therefore deliver⁵⁴¹⁴ us ⁸⁵³ the men,³⁷⁶ the children¹¹²¹ of Belial,¹¹⁰⁰ which⁸³⁴ are in Gibeah,¹³⁹⁰ that we may put them to death,⁴¹⁹¹ and put away¹¹⁹⁷ evil⁷⁴⁵¹ from Israel.^{4480 3478} But the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ would¹⁴ not³⁸⁰⁸ hearken⁸⁰⁸⁵ to the voice⁶⁹⁶³ of their brethren²⁵¹ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel:³⁴⁷⁸

14  But the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ gathered themselves together⁶²² out of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the cities⁵⁸⁹² unto Gibeah,¹³⁹⁰ to go out³³¹⁸ to battle⁴⁴²¹ against⁵⁹⁷³ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel.³⁴⁷⁸

15  And the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ were numbered⁶⁴⁸⁵ at that¹⁹³¹ time³¹¹⁷ out of the cities^{4480 5892} twenty⁶²⁴² and six⁸³³⁷ thousand⁵⁰⁵ men³⁷⁶ that drew⁸⁰²⁵ sword,²⁷¹⁹ beside⁹⁰⁵ the inhabitants^{4480 3427} of Gibeah,¹³⁹⁰ which were numbered⁶⁴⁸⁵ seven⁷⁶⁵¹ hundred³⁹⁶⁷ chosen⁹⁷⁰ men.³⁷⁶

16  Among all^{4480 3605} this²⁰⁸⁸ people⁵⁹⁷¹ there were seven⁷⁶⁵¹ hundred³⁹⁶⁷ chosen⁹⁷⁷ men³⁷⁶ left-handed;^{334 3027 3225} every one^{3605 2088} could sling⁷⁰⁴⁹ stones⁶⁸ at⁴¹³ a hair⁸¹⁸⁵ breadth, and not³⁸⁰⁸ miss.²³⁹⁸

17  And the men³⁷⁶ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ beside⁹⁰⁵ Benjamin,^{4480 1144} were numbered⁶⁴⁸⁵ four⁷⁰² hundred³⁹⁶⁷ thousand⁵⁰⁵ men³⁷⁶ that drew⁸⁰²⁵ sword:²⁷¹⁹ all³⁶⁰⁵ these²⁰⁸⁸ were men³⁷⁶ of war.⁴⁴²¹

18  And the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ arose,⁶⁹⁶⁵ and went up⁵⁹²⁷ to the house of God,¹⁰⁰⁸ and asked counsel⁷⁵⁹² of God,⁴³⁰ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Which⁴³¹⁰ of us shall go up⁵⁹²⁷ first⁸⁴⁶² to the battle⁴⁴²¹ against⁵⁹⁷³ the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin?¹¹⁴⁴ And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said,⁵⁵⁹ Judah³⁰⁶³ shall go up first.⁸⁴⁶²

19  And the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ rose up⁶⁹⁶⁵ in the morning,¹²⁴² and encamped²⁵⁸³ against⁵⁹²¹ Gibeah.¹³⁹⁰

20  And the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ went out³³¹⁸ to battle⁴⁴²¹ against⁵⁹⁷³ Benjamin;¹¹⁴⁴ and the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ put themselves in array⁶¹⁸⁶ to fight⁴⁴²¹ against⁸⁵⁴ them at⁴¹³ Gibeah.¹³⁹⁰

21  And the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ came forth³³¹⁸ out of⁴⁴⁸⁰ Gibeah,¹³⁹⁰ and destroyed down⁷⁸⁴³ to the ground⁷⁷⁶ of the Israelites³⁴⁷⁸ that¹⁹³¹ day³¹¹⁷ twenty⁶²⁴² and two⁸¹⁴⁷ thousand⁵⁰⁵ men.³⁷⁶

22  And the people⁵⁹⁷¹ the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ encouraged themselves,²³⁸⁸ and set⁶¹⁸⁶ their battle⁴⁴²¹ again³²⁵⁴ in array⁶¹⁸⁶ in the place⁴⁷²⁵ where^{834 8033} they put themselves in array⁶¹⁸⁶ the first⁷²²³ day.³¹¹⁷

23  (And the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ went up⁵⁹²⁷ and wept¹⁰⁵⁸ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ until⁵⁷⁰⁴ even,⁶¹⁵³ and asked counsel⁷⁵⁹² of the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Shall I go up⁵⁰⁶⁶ again³²⁵⁴ to battle⁴⁴²¹ against⁵⁹⁷³ the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ my brother?²⁵¹ And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said,⁵⁵⁹ Go up⁵⁹²⁷ against⁴¹³ him.)

24  And the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ came near⁷¹²⁶ against⁴¹³ the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ the second⁸¹⁴⁵ day.³¹¹⁷

25  And Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ went forth³³¹⁸ against⁷¹²⁵ them out of⁴⁴⁸⁰ Gibeah¹³⁹⁰ the second⁸¹⁴⁵ day,³¹¹⁷ and destroyed⁷⁸⁴³ down to the ground⁷⁷⁶ of the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ again⁵⁷⁵⁰ eighteen^{8083 6240} thousand⁵⁰⁵ men;³⁷⁶ all³⁶⁰⁵ these⁴²⁸ drew⁸⁰²⁵ the sword.²⁷¹⁹

26  Then all³⁶⁰⁵ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ and all³⁶⁰⁵ the people,⁵⁹⁷¹ went up,⁵⁹²⁷ and came⁹³⁵ unto the house of God,¹⁰⁰⁸ and wept,¹⁰⁵⁸ and sat³⁴²⁷ there⁸⁰³³ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ and fasted⁶⁶⁸⁴ that¹⁹³¹ day³¹¹⁷ until⁵⁷⁰⁴ even,⁶¹⁵³ and offered⁵⁹²⁷ burnt offerings⁵⁹³⁰ and peace offerings⁸⁰⁰² before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the LORD.³⁰⁶⁸

27  And the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ inquired⁷⁵⁹² of the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ (for the ark⁷²⁷ of the covenant¹²⁸⁵ of God⁴³⁰ was there⁸⁰³³ in those¹⁹⁹² days,³¹¹⁷

28  And Phinehas,⁶³⁷² the son¹¹²¹ of Eleazar,⁴⁹⁹ the son¹¹²¹ of Aaron,¹⁷⁵ stood⁵⁹⁷⁵ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ it in those¹⁹⁹² days,)³¹¹⁷ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Shall I yet⁵⁷⁵⁰ again³²⁵⁴ go out³³¹⁸ to battle⁴⁴²¹ against⁵⁹⁷³ the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ my brother,²⁵¹ or⁵¹⁸ shall I cease?²³⁰⁸ And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said,⁵⁵⁹ Go up;⁵⁹²⁷ for³⁵⁸⁸ tomorrow⁴²⁷⁹ I will deliver⁵⁴¹⁴ them into thine hand.³⁰²⁷

29  And Israel³⁴⁷⁸ set⁷⁷⁶⁰ liers in wait⁶⁹³ round about^{5439 413} Gibeah.¹³⁹⁰

30  And the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ went up⁵⁹²⁷ against⁴¹³ the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ on the third⁷⁹⁹² day,³¹¹⁷ and put themselves in array⁶¹⁸⁶ against⁴¹³ Gibeah,¹³⁹⁰ as at other times.^{6471 6471}

31  And the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ went out³³¹⁸ against⁷¹²⁵ the people,⁵⁹⁷¹ and were drawn away⁵⁴²³ from⁴⁴⁸⁰ the city;⁵⁸⁹² and they began²⁴⁹⁰ to smite⁵²²¹ of the people,^{4480 5971} and kill,²⁴⁹¹ as at other times,^{6471 6471} in the highways,⁴⁵⁴⁶ of which⁸³⁴ one²⁵⁹ goeth up⁵⁹²⁷ to the house of God,¹⁰⁰⁸ and the other²⁵⁹ to Gibeah¹³⁹⁰ in the field,⁷⁷⁰⁴ about thirty⁷⁹⁷⁰ men³⁷⁶ of Israel.³⁴⁷⁸

32  And the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ said,⁵⁵⁹ They¹⁹⁹² are smitten down⁵⁰⁶² before⁶⁴⁴⁰ us, as at the first.⁷²²³ But the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ said,⁵⁵⁹ Let us flee,⁵¹²⁷ and draw⁵⁴²³ them from⁴⁴⁸⁰ the city⁵⁸⁹² unto⁴¹³ the highways.⁴⁵⁴⁶

33  And all³⁶⁰⁵ the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ rose up⁶⁹⁶⁵ out of their place,^{4480 4725} and put themselves in array⁶¹⁸⁶ at Baal-tamar:¹¹⁹³ and the liers in wait⁶⁹³ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ came forth¹⁵¹⁸ out of their places,^{4480 4725} even out of the meadows^{4480 4629} of Gibeah.^{4480 1390}

34  And there came⁹³⁵ against^{4480 5048} Gibeah¹³⁹⁰ ten⁶²³⁵ thousand⁵⁰⁵ chosen⁹⁷⁷ men³⁷⁶ out of all^{4480 3605} Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ and the battle⁴⁴²¹ was sore:³⁵¹³ but they¹⁹⁹² knew³⁰⁴⁵ not³⁸⁰⁸ that³⁵⁸⁸ evil⁷⁴⁵¹ was near⁵⁰⁶⁰ them.

35  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ smote^{5062 853} Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ Israel:³⁴⁷⁸ and the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ destroyed⁷⁸⁴³ of the Benjamites¹¹⁴⁴ that¹⁹³¹ day³¹¹⁷ twenty⁶²⁴² and five²⁵⁶⁸ thousand⁵⁰⁵ and a hundred³⁹⁶⁷ men:³⁷⁶ all³⁶⁰⁵ these⁴²⁸ drew⁸⁰²⁵ the sword.²⁷¹⁹

36  So the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ saw⁷²⁰⁰ that³⁵⁸⁸ they were smitten:⁵⁰⁶² for the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ gave⁵⁴¹⁴ place⁴⁷²⁵ to the Benjamites,¹¹⁴⁴ because³⁵⁸⁸ they trusted⁹⁸² unto⁴¹³ the liers in wait⁶⁹³ which⁸³⁴ they had set⁷⁷⁶⁰ beside⁴¹³ Gibeah.¹³⁹⁰

37  And the liers in wait⁶⁹³ hasted,²³⁶³ and rushed⁶⁵⁸⁴ upon⁴¹³ Gibeah;¹³⁹⁰ and the liers in wait⁶⁹³ drew themselves along,⁴⁹⁰⁰ and smote^{5221 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ the city⁵⁸⁹² with the edge⁶³¹⁰ of the sword.²⁷¹⁹

38  Now there was¹⁹⁶¹ an appointed sign⁴¹⁵⁰ between the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ and the liers in wait,⁶⁹³ that they should make a great⁷²³⁵ flame⁴⁸⁶⁴ with smoke⁶²²⁷ rise up⁵⁹²⁷ out of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the city.⁵⁸⁹²

39  And when the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ retired²⁰¹⁵ in the battle,⁴⁴²¹ Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ began²⁴⁹⁰ to smite⁵²²¹ and kill²⁴⁹¹ of the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ about thirty⁷⁹⁷⁰ persons:³⁷⁶ for³⁵⁸⁸ they said,⁵⁵⁹ Surely³⁸⁹ they¹⁹³¹ are smitten down^{5062 5062} before⁶⁴⁴⁰ us, as in the first⁷²²³ battle.⁴⁴²¹

40  But when the flame⁴⁸⁶⁴ began²⁴⁹⁰ to arise up⁵⁹²⁷ out of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the city⁵⁸⁹² with a pillar⁵⁹⁸² of smoke,⁶²²⁷ the Benjamites¹¹⁴⁴ looked⁶⁴³⁷ behind³¹⁰ them, and, behold,²⁰⁰⁹ the flame³⁶³² of the city⁵⁸⁹² ascended up⁵⁹²⁷ to heaven.⁸⁰⁶⁴

41  And when the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ turned again,²⁰¹⁵ the men³⁷⁶ of Benjamin¹¹⁴⁴ were amazed:⁹²⁶ for³⁵⁸⁸ they saw⁷²⁰⁰ that³⁵⁸⁸ evil⁷⁴⁵¹ was come⁵⁰⁶⁰ upon⁵⁹²¹ them.

42  Therefore they turned⁶⁴³⁷ their backs before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ unto⁴¹³ the way¹⁸⁷⁰ of the wilderness;⁴⁰⁵⁷ but the battle⁴⁴²¹ overtook¹⁶⁹² them; and them which⁸³⁴ came out of the cities^{4480 5892} they destroyed⁷⁸⁴³ in the midst⁸⁴³² of them.

43  Thus they enclosed the Benjamites round about,^{3803 853 1144} and chased⁷²⁹¹ them, and trod them down¹⁸⁶⁹ with ease⁴⁴⁹⁶ over against^{5704 5227} Gibeah¹³⁹⁰ toward the sunrising.^{4480 4217 8121}

44  And there fell⁵³⁰⁷ of Benjamin^{4480 1144} eighteen^{8083 6240} thousand⁵⁰⁵ men;^{376 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ these⁴²⁸ were men³⁷⁶ of valor.²⁴²⁸

45  And they turned⁶⁴³⁷ and fled⁵¹²⁷ toward the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ unto⁴¹³ the rock⁵⁵⁵³ of Rimmon:⁷⁴¹⁷ and they gleaned⁵⁹⁵³ of them in the highways⁴⁵⁴⁶ five²⁵⁶⁸ thousand⁵⁰⁵ men;³⁷⁶ and pursued hard¹⁶⁹² after³¹⁰ them unto⁵⁷⁰⁴ Gidom,¹⁴⁴⁰ and slew⁵²²¹ two thousand⁵⁰⁵ men³⁷⁶ of⁴⁴⁸⁰ them.

46  So that all³⁶⁰⁵ which fell⁵³⁰⁷ that¹⁹³¹ day³¹¹⁷ of Benjamin^{4480 1144} were¹⁹⁶¹ twenty⁶²⁴² and five²⁵⁶⁸ thousand⁵⁰⁵ men³⁷⁶ that drew⁸⁰²⁵ the sword;^{2719 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ these⁴²⁸ were men³⁷⁶ of valor.²⁴²⁸

47  But six⁸³³⁷ hundred³⁹⁶⁷ men³⁷⁶ turned⁶⁴³⁷ and fled⁵¹²⁷ to the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ unto⁴¹³ the rock⁵⁵⁵³ Rimmon,⁷⁴¹⁷ and abode³⁴²⁷ in the rock⁵⁵⁵³ Rimmon⁷⁴¹⁷ four⁷⁰² months.²³²⁰

48  And the men³⁷⁶ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ turned again⁷⁷²⁵ upon⁴¹³ the children¹¹²¹ of Benjamin,¹¹⁴⁴ and smote⁵²²¹ them with the edge⁶³¹⁰ of the sword,²⁷¹⁹ as well the men⁴⁹⁷⁴ of every city,^{4480 5892} as⁵⁷⁰⁴ the beast,⁹²⁹ and all³⁶⁰⁵ that came to hand:⁴⁶⁷² also¹⁵⁷¹ they set⁷⁹⁷¹ on fire⁷⁸⁴ all³⁶⁰⁵ the cities⁵⁸⁹² that they came to.⁴⁶⁷²

1 καὶ ἐξῆλθον πάντες οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐξεκκλησιάσθη ἡ συναγωγὴ ὡς ἀνὴρ εἷς ἀπὸ Δαν καὶ ἕως Βηρσαβεε καὶ γῆ τοῦ Γαλααδ πρὸς κύριον εἰς Μασσηφα

2 καὶ ἐστάθησαν κατὰ πρόσωπον κυρίου πᾶσαι αἱ φυλαὶ τοῦ Ισραηλ ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ τοῦ λαοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ τετρακόσιαι χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν πεζῶν ἕλκοντες ῥομφαίαν

3 καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν ὅτι ἀνέβησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ εἰς Μασσηφα καὶ ἐλθόντες εἶπαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ λαλήσατε ποῦ ἐγένετο ἡ πονηρία αὕτη

4 καὶ ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ἀνὴρ ὁ Λευίτης ὁ ἀνὴρ τῆς γυναικὸς τῆς φονευθείσης καὶ εἶπεν εἰς Γαβαα τῆς Βενιαμιν ἦλθον ἐγὼ καὶ ἡ παλλακή μου τοῦ αὐλισθῆναι

5 καὶ ἀνέστησαν ἐπ᾽ ἐμὲ οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς Γαβαα καὶ ἐκύκλωσαν ἐπ᾽ ἐμὲ ἐπὶ τὴν οἰκίαν νυκτός ἐμὲ ἠθέλησαν φονεῦσαι καὶ τὴν παλλακήν μου ἐταπείνωσαν καὶ ἀπέθανεν

6 καὶ ἐκράτησα τὴν παλλακήν μου καὶ ἐμέλισα αὐτὴν καὶ ἀπέστειλα ἐν παντὶ ὁρίῳ κληρονομίας υἱῶν Ισραηλ ὅτι ἐποίησαν ζεμα καὶ ἀπόπτωμα ἐν Ισραηλ

7 ἰδοὺ πάντες ὑμεῖς υἱοὶ Ισραηλ δότε ἑαυτοῖς λόγον καὶ βουλὴν ἐκεῖ

8 καὶ ἀνέστη πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὡς ἀνὴρ εἷς λέγοντες οὐκ ἀπελευσόμεθα ἀνὴρ εἰς σκήνωμα αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐκ ἐπιστρέψομεν ἀνὴρ εἰς οἶκον αὐτοῦ

9 καὶ νῦν τοῦτο τὸ ῥῆμα ὃ ποιηθήσεται τῇ Γαβαα ἀναβησόμεθα ἐπ᾽ αὐτὴν ἐν κλήρῳ

10 πλὴν λημψόμεθα δέκα ἄνδρας τοῖς ἑκατὸν εἰς πάσας φυλὰς Ισραηλ καὶ ἑκατὸν τοῖς χιλίοις καὶ χιλίους τοῖς μυρίοις λαβεῖν ἐπισιτισμὸν τοῦ ποιῆσαι ἐλθεῖν αὐτοὺς εἰς Γαβαα Βενιαμιν ποιῆσαι αὐτῇ κατὰ πᾶν τὸ ἀπόπτωμα ὃ ἐποίησεν ἐν Ισραηλ

11 καὶ συνήχθη πᾶς ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ εἰς τὴν πόλιν ὡς ἀνὴρ εἷς

12 καὶ ἀπέστειλαν αἱ φυλαὶ Ισραηλ ἄνδρας ἐν πάσῃ φυλῇ Βενιαμιν λέγοντες τίς ἡ πονηρία αὕτη ἡ γενομένη ἐν ὑμῖν

13 καὶ νῦν δότε τοὺς ἄνδρας υἱοὺς παρανόμων τοὺς ἐν Γαβαα καὶ θανατώσομεν αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐκκαθαριοῦμεν πονηρίαν ἀπὸ Ισραηλ καὶ οὐκ εὐδόκησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν ἀκοῦσαι τῆς φωνῆς τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ

14 καὶ συνήχθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν ἀπὸ τῶν πόλεων αὐτῶν εἰς Γαβαα ἐξελθεῖν εἰς παράταξιν πρὸς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ

15 καὶ ἐπεσκέπησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἀπὸ τῶν πόλεων εἴκοσι τρεῖς χιλιάδες ἀνὴρ ἕλκων ῥομφαίαν ἐκτὸς τῶν οἰκούντων τὴν Γαβαα οἳ ἐπεσκέπησαν ἑπτακόσιοι ἄνδρες ἐκλεκτοὶ

16 ἐκ παντὸς λαοῦ ἀμφοτεροδέξιοι πάντες οὗτοι σφενδονῆται ἐν λίθοις πρὸς τρίχα καὶ οὐκ ἐξαμαρτάνοντες

17 καὶ ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ ἐπεσκέπησαν ἐκτὸς τοῦ Βενιαμιν τετρακόσιαι χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν ἑλκόντων ῥομφαίαν πάντες οὗτοι ἄνδρες παρατάξεως

18 καὶ ἀνέστησαν καὶ ἀνέβησαν εἰς Βαιθηλ καὶ ἠρώτησαν ἐν τῷ θεῷ καὶ εἶπαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τίς ἀναβήσεται ἡμῖν ἐν ἀρχῇ εἰς παράταξιν πρὸς υἱοὺς Βενιαμιν καὶ εἶπεν κύριος Ιουδας ἐν ἀρχῇ ἀναβήσεται ἀφηγούμενος

19 καὶ ἀνέστησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τὸ πρωὶ καὶ παρενέβαλον ἐπὶ Γαβαα

20 καὶ ἐξῆλθον πᾶς ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ εἰς παράταξιν πρὸς Βενιαμιν καὶ συνῆψαν αὐτοῖς ἐπὶ Γαβαα

21 καὶ ἐξῆλθον οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν ἀπὸ τῆς Γαβαα καὶ διέφθειραν ἐν Ισραηλ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ δύο καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν

22 καὶ ἐνίσχυσαν ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ καὶ προσέθηκαν συνάψαι παράταξιν ἐν τῷ τόπῳ ὅπου συνῆψαν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ πρώτῃ

23 καὶ ἀνέβησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἔκλαυσαν ἐνώπιον κυρίου ἕως ἑσπέρας καὶ ἠρώτησαν ἐν κυρίῳ λέγοντες εἰ προσθῶμεν ἐγγίσαι εἰς παράταξιν πρὸς υἱοὺς Βενιαμιν ἀδελφοὺς ἡμῶν καὶ εἶπεν κύριος ἀνάβητε πρὸς αὐτούς

24 καὶ προσῆλθον οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς υἱοὺς Βενιαμιν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ δευτέρᾳ

25 καὶ ἐξῆλθον οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτοῖς ἀπὸ τῆς Γαβαα ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ δευτέρᾳ καὶ διέφθειραν ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ισραηλ ἔτι ὀκτωκαίδεκα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν πάντες οὗτοι ἕλκοντες ῥομφαίαν

26 καὶ ἀνέβησαν πάντες οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς καὶ ἦλθον εἰς Βαιθηλ καὶ ἔκλαυσαν καὶ ἐκάθισαν ἐκεῖ ἐνώπιον κυρίου καὶ ἐνήστευσαν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἕως ἑσπέρας καὶ ἀνήνεγκαν ὁλοκαυτώσεις καὶ τελείας ἐνώπιον κυρίου

27 ὅτι ἐκεῖ κιβωτὸς διαθήκης κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ

28 καὶ Φινεες υἱὸς Ελεαζαρ υἱοῦ Ααρων παρεστηκὼς ἐνώπιον αὐτῆς ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἐν κυρίῳ λέγοντες εἰ προσθῶμεν ἔτι ἐξελθεῖν εἰς παράταξιν πρὸς υἱοὺς Βενιαμιν ἀδελφοὺς ἡμῶν ἢ ἐπίσχωμεν καὶ εἶπεν κύριος ἀνάβητε ὅτι αὔριον δώσω αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰς χεῖρας ὑμῶν

29 καὶ ἔθηκαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἔνεδρα τῇ Γαβαα κύκλῳ

30 καὶ ἀνέβησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς υἱοὺς Βενιαμιν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ καὶ συνῆψαν πρὸς τὴν Γαβαα ὡς ἅπαξ καὶ ἅπαξ

31 καὶ ἐξῆλθον οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν εἰς συνάντησιν τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἐξεκενώθησαν τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἤρξαντο πατάσσειν ἀπὸ τοῦ λαοῦ τραυματίας ὡς ἅπαξ καὶ ἅπαξ ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς ἥ ἐστιν μία ἀναβαίνουσα εἰς Βαιθηλ καὶ μία εἰς Γαβαα ἐν ἀγρῷ ὡς τριάκοντα ἄνδρας ἐν Ισραηλ

32 καὶ εἶπαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν πίπτουσιν ἐνώπιον ἡμῶν ὡς τὸ πρῶτον καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ εἶπον φύγωμεν καὶ ἐκκενώσωμεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως εἰς τὰς ὁδούς καὶ ἐποίησαν οὕτως

33 καὶ πᾶς ἀνὴρ ἀνέστη ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ καὶ συνῆψαν ἐν Βααλθαμαρ καὶ τὸ ἔνεδρον Ισραηλ ἐπήρχετο ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ Μααραγαβε

34 καὶ ἦλθον ἐξ ἐναντίας Γαβαα δέκα χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν ἐκλεκτῶν ἐκ παντὸς Ισραηλ καὶ παράταξις βαρεῖα καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν ὅτι φθάνει ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς ἡ κακία

35 καὶ ἐπάταξεν κύριος τὸν Βενιαμιν ἐνώπιον υἱῶν Ισραηλ καὶ διέφθειραν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἐκ τοῦ Βενιαμιν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ εἴκοσι καὶ πέντε χιλιάδας καὶ ἑκατὸν ἄνδρας πάντες οὗτοι εἷλκον ῥομφαίαν

36 καὶ εἶδον οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν ὅτι ἐπλήγησαν καὶ ἔδωκεν ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ τόπον τῷ Βενιαμιν ὅτι ἤλπισαν πρὸς τὸ ἔνεδρον ὃ ἔθηκαν ἐπὶ τὴν Γαβαα

37 καὶ ἐν τῷ αὐτοὺς ὑποχωρῆσαι καὶ τὸ ἔνεδρον ἐκινήθη καὶ ἐξέτειναν ἐπὶ τὴν Γαβαα καὶ ἐξεχύθη τὸ ἔνεδρον καὶ ἐπάταξαν τὴν πόλιν ἐν στόματι ῥομφαίας

38 καὶ σημεῖον ἦν τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ μετὰ τοῦ ἐνέδρου τῆς μάχης ἀνενέγκαι αὐτοὺς σύσσημον καπνοῦ ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως

39 καὶ εἶδον οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ὅτι προκατελάβετο τὸ ἔνεδρον τὴν Γαβαα καὶ ἔστησαν ἐν τῇ παρατάξει καὶ Βενιαμιν ἤρξατο πατάσσειν τραυματίας ἐν ἀνδράσιν Ισραηλ ὡς τριάκοντα ἄνδρας ὅτι εἶπαν πάλιν πτώσει πίπτουσιν ἐνώπιον ἡμῶν ὡς ἡ παράταξις ἡ πρώτη

40 καὶ τὸ σύσσημον ἀνέβη ἐπὶ πλεῖον ἐπὶ τῆς πόλεως ὡς στῦλος καπνοῦ καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν Βενιαμιν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνέβη ἡ συντέλεια τῆς πόλεως ἕως οὐρανοῦ

41 καὶ ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ ἐπέστρεψεν καὶ ἔσπευσαν ἄνδρες Βενιαμιν ὅτι εἶδον ὅτι συνήντησεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς ἡ πονηρία

42 καὶ ἐπέβλεψαν ἐνώπιον υἱῶν Ισραηλ εἰς ὁδὸν τῆς ἐρήμου καὶ ἔφυγον καὶ ἡ παράταξις ἔφθασεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτούς καὶ οἱ ἀπὸ τῶν πόλεων διέφθειρον αὐτοὺς ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν

43 καὶ κατέκοπτον τὸν Βενιαμιν καὶ ἐδίωξαν αὐτὸν ἀπὸ Νουα κατὰ πόδα αὐτοῦ ἕως ἀπέναντι Γαβαα πρὸς ἀνατολὰς ἡλίου

44 καὶ ἔπεσαν ἀπὸ Βενιαμιν δέκα ὀκτὼ χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν οἱ πάντες οὗτοι ἄνδρες δυνάμεως

45 καὶ ἐπέβλεψαν οἱ λοιποὶ καὶ ἔφευγον εἰς τὴν ἔρημον πρὸς τὴν πέτραν τοῦ Ρεμμων καὶ ἐκαλαμήσαντο ἐξ αὐτῶν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πεντακισχιλίους ἄνδρας καὶ κατέβησαν ὀπίσω αὐτῶν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἕως Γεδαν καὶ ἐπάταξαν ἐξ αὐτῶν δισχιλίους ἄνδρας

46 καὶ ἐγένοντο πάντες οἱ πίπτοντες ἀπὸ Βενιαμιν εἴκοσι πέντε χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν ἑλκόντων ῥομφαίαν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ οἱ πάντες οὗτοι ἄνδρες δυνάμεως

47 καὶ ἐπέβλεψαν οἱ λοιποὶ καὶ ἔφυγον εἰς τὴν ἔρημον πρὸς τὴν πέτραν τοῦ Ρεμμων ἑξακόσιοι ἄνδρες καὶ ἐκάθισαν ἐν πέτρᾳ Ρεμμων τέσσαρας μῆνας

48 καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἐπέστρεψαν πρὸς υἱοὺς Βενιαμιν καὶ ἐπάταξαν αὐτοὺς ἐν στόματι ῥομφαίας ἀπὸ πόλεως Μεθλα καὶ ἕως κτήνους καὶ ἕως παντὸς τοῦ εὑρισκομένου εἰς πάσας τὰς πόλεις καὶ τὰς πόλεις τὰς εὑρεθείσας ἐνέπρησαν ἐν πυρί

1 καὶ ἐξῆλθον πάντες οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐξεκκλησιάσθη πᾶσα ἡ συναγωγὴ ὡς ἀνὴρ εἷς ἀπὸ Δαν καὶ ἕως Βηρσαβεε καὶ γῆ Γαλααδ πρὸς κύριον εἰς Μασσηφα

2 καὶ ἔστη τὸ κλίμα παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ πᾶσαι αἱ φυλαὶ Ισραηλ ἐν τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ τοῦ λαοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ τετρακόσιαι χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν πεζῶν σπωμένων ῥομφαίαν

3 καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν ὅτι ἀνέβησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς κύριον εἰς Μασσηφα καὶ εἶπαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ λαλήσατε ποῦ ἐγένετο ἡ κακία αὕτη

4 καὶ ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ἀνὴρ ὁ Λευίτης ὁ ἀνὴρ τῆς γυναικὸς τῆς πεφονευμένης καὶ εἶπεν εἰς Γαβαα τῆς Βενιαμιν ἦλθον ἐγὼ καὶ ἡ παλλακή μου καταλῦσαι

5 καὶ ἀνέστησαν ἐπ᾽ ἐμὲ οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ παρὰ τῆς Γαβαα καὶ περιεκύκλωσαν ἐπ᾽ ἐμὲ τὴν οἰκίαν νυκτὸς καὶ ἐμὲ ἠθέλησαν ἀποκτεῖναι καὶ τὴν παλλακήν μου ἐταπείνωσαν καὶ ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῇ καὶ ἀπέθανεν

6 καὶ ἐπελαβόμην τῆς παλλακῆς μου καὶ ἐμέλισα αὐτὴν καὶ ἐξαπέστειλα ἐν παντὶ ὁρίῳ κληρονομίας Ισραηλ ὅτι ἐποίησαν ἀφροσύνην ἐν τῷ Ισραηλ

11 καὶ συνήχθη πᾶς ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ ἐκ τῶν πόλεων ὡς ἀνὴρ εἷς ἐρχόμενοι

12 καὶ ἐξαπέστειλαν αἱ φυλαὶ Ισραηλ ἄνδρας ἐν πάσῃ φυλῇ Βενιαμιν λέγοντες τίς ἡ κακία αὕτη ἡ γενομένη ἐν ὑμῖν

13 καὶ νῦν δότε τοὺς ἄνδρας τοὺς ἀσεβεῖς τοὺς ἐν Γαβαα τοὺς υἱοὺς Βελιαλ καὶ θανατώσομεν αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐξαροῦμεν κακίαν ἐξ Ισραηλ καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν εἰσακοῦσαι τῆς φωνῆς τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ

14 καὶ συνήχθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν ἐκ τῶν πόλεων αὐτῶν εἰς Γαβαα ἐξελθεῖν τοῦ πολεμῆσαι μετὰ υἱῶν Ισραηλ

15 καὶ ἐπεσκέπησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐκ τῶν πόλεων εἴκοσι καὶ πέντε χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν σπωμένων ῥομφαίαν χωρὶς τῶν κατοικούντων τὴν Γαβαα οὗτοι ἐπεσκέπησαν ἑπτακόσιοι ἄνδρες νεανίσκοι ἐκλεκτοὶ

16 ἀμφοτεροδέξιοι πάντες οὗτοι σφενδονῆται βάλλοντες λίθους πρὸς τὴν τρίχα καὶ οὐ διαμαρτάνοντες

17 καὶ πᾶς ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ ἐπεσκέπησαν χωρὶς τῶν υἱῶν Βενιαμιν τετρακόσιαι χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν σπωμένων ῥομφαίαν πάντες οὗτοι ἄνδρες πολεμισταί

18 καὶ ἀνέστησαν καὶ ἀνέβησαν εἰς Βαιθηλ καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν ἐν τῷ θεῷ καὶ εἶπαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τίς ἀναβήσεται ἡμῖν ἀφηγούμενος πολεμῆσαι μετὰ Βενιαμιν καὶ εἶπεν κύριος Ιουδας ἀναβήσεται ἀφηγούμενος

19 καὶ ἀνέστησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ παρενέβαλον ἐπὶ τὴν Γαβαα

20 καὶ ἐξῆλθεν πᾶς ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ εἰς πόλεμον μετὰ Βενιαμιν καὶ παρετάξαντο μετ᾽ αὐτῶν εἰς πόλεμον ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ πρὸς τὴν Γαβαα

21 καὶ ἐξῆλθον οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως καὶ διέφθειραν ἐν Ισραηλ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ δύο καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν

22 καὶ ἐνίσχυσεν ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ καὶ προσέθεντο παρατάξασθαι πόλεμον ἐν τῷ τόπῳ ᾧ παρετάξαντο ἐκεῖ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ πρώτῃ

23 καὶ ἀνέβησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἔκλαυσαν ἐνώπιον κυρίου ἕως ἑσπέρας καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν ἐν κυρίῳ λέγοντες εἰ προσθῶ προσεγγίσαι εἰς πόλεμον μετὰ Βενιαμιν τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ μου καὶ εἶπεν κύριος ἀνάβητε πρὸς αὐτόν

24 καὶ προσήλθοσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς Βενιαμιν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ δευτέρᾳ

25 καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Βενιαμιν εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς Γαβαα ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ δευτέρᾳ καὶ διέφθειρεν ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ ὀκτωκαίδεκα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν πάντες οὗτοι ἐσπασμένοι ῥομφαίαν

26 καὶ ἀνέβησαν πάντες οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς καὶ ἤλθοσαν εἰς Βαιθηλ καὶ ἔκλαυσαν ἔναντι κυρίου καὶ ἐνήστευσαν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἀνήνεγκαν ὁλοκαυτώματα σωτηρίου ἔναντι κυρίου

27 καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἐν κυρίῳ καὶ ἐκεῖ ἡ κιβωτὸς διαθήκης κυρίου ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις

28 καὶ Φινεες υἱὸς Ελεαζαρ υἱοῦ Ααρων παρεστηκὼς ἐνώπιον αὐτῆς ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις λέγων εἰ προσθῶ ἔτι ἐξελθεῖν εἰς πόλεμον μετὰ υἱῶν Βενιαμιν τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ μου ἢ κοπάσω καὶ εἶπεν κύριος ἀνάβητε ὅτι αὔριον παραδώσω αὐτὸν ἐν χειρί σου

29 καὶ ἔθηκαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἔνεδρα ἐν τῇ Γαβαα κύκλῳ

30 καὶ ἔταξεν Ισραηλ πρὸς τὸν Βενιαμιν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ καὶ παρετάξαντο πρὸς Γαβαα καθὼς ἅπαξ καὶ ἅπαξ

31 καὶ ἐξῆλθον οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν εἰς ἀπάντησιν τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἐξειλκύσθησαν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἤρξαντο τύπτειν ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ καθὼς ἅπαξ καὶ ἅπαξ ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς ἥ ἐστιν μία ἀναβαίνουσα εἰς Βαιθηλ καὶ μία ἀναβαίνουσα εἰς Γαβαα ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ ὡσεὶ τριάκοντα ἄνδρας ἐν τῷ Ισραηλ

32 καὶ εἶπαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν προσκόπτουσιν ἐνώπιον ἡμῶν καθὼς ἔμπροσθεν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ εἶπαν φύγωμεν καὶ ἐκσπάσωμεν αὐτοὺς ἐκ τῆς πόλεως εἰς τὰς ὁδούς

33 καὶ πᾶς ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ ἀνέστη ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐν Βααλθαμαρ καὶ τὸ ἔνεδρον Ισραηλ ἐπάλαιεν ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ δυσμῶν τῆς Γαβαα

34 καὶ παρεγένοντο ἐξ ἐναντίας τῆς Γαβαα δέκα χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν ἐκλεκτῶν ἐκ παντὸς Ισραηλ καὶ ὁ πόλεμος ἐβαρύνθη καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν ὅτι ἀφῆπται αὐτῶν ἡ κακία

35 καὶ ἐτρόπωσεν κύριος τὸν Βενιαμιν κατὰ πρόσωπον Ισραηλ καὶ διέφθειραν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἐν τῷ Βενιαμιν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ εἴκοσι καὶ πέντε χιλιάδας καὶ ἑκατὸν ἄνδρας πάντες οὗτοι σπώμενοι ῥομφαίαν

36 καὶ εἶδεν Βενιαμιν ὅτι τετρόπωται καὶ ἔδωκεν ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ τῷ Βενιαμιν τόπον ὅτι ἤλπισαν ἐπὶ τὸ ἔνεδρον ὃ ἔταξαν πρὸς τὴν Γαβαα

37 καὶ τὸ ἔνεδρον ὥρμησεν καὶ ἐξεχύθησαν πρὸς τὴν Γαβαα καὶ ἐπορεύθη τὸ ἔνεδρον καὶ ἐπάταξαν ὅλην τὴν πόλιν ἐν στόματι ῥομφαίας

38 καὶ ἡ συνταγὴ ἦν ἀνδρὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς τὸ ἔνεδρον τοῦ ἀνενέγκαι αὐτοὺς πυρσὸν τοῦ καπνοῦ τῆς πόλεως

39 καὶ ἀνέστρεψαν ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ ἐν τῷ πολέμῳ καὶ Βενιαμιν ἦρκται τοῦ τύπτειν τραυματίας ἐν τῷ ἀνδρὶ Ισραηλ ὡσεὶ τριάκοντα ἄνδρας ὅτι εἶπαν πλὴν τροπούμενος τροποῦται ἐναντίον ἡμῶν καθὼς ὁ πόλεμος ὁ ἔμπροσθεν

40 καὶ ὁ πυρσὸς ἤρξατο ἀναβαίνειν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως στῦλος καπνοῦ καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν Βενιαμιν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνέβη συντέλεια τῆς πόλεως εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν

41 καὶ ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ ἀπέστρεψεν καὶ ἔσπευσεν ἀνὴρ Βενιαμιν καὶ εἶδεν ὅτι ἧπται αὐτοῦ ἡ κακία

42 καὶ ἔκλιναν ἐνώπιον ἀνδρὸς Ισραηλ εἰς τὴν ὁδὸν τῆς ἐρήμου καὶ ὁ πόλεμος κατέφθασεν αὐτόν καὶ οἱ ἀπὸ τῶν πόλεων διέφθειραν αὐτὸν ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν

43 καὶ ἔκοψαν τὸν Βενιαμιν καταπαῦσαι αὐτὸν κατάπαυσιν καὶ κατεπάτησαν αὐτὸν ἕως ἐξ ἐναντίας τῆς Γαβαα ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν ἡλίου

44 καὶ ἔπεσαν ἐκ τοῦ Βενιαμιν ὀκτωκαίδεκα χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν σὺν πᾶσιν τούτοις ἄνδρες δυνατοί

45 καὶ ἐξέκλιναν καὶ ἔφυγον εἰς τὴν ἔρημον πρὸς τὴν πέτραν τὴν Ρεμμων καὶ ἐκαλαμήσαντο ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς πέντε χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν καὶ προσεκολλήθησαν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ ἕως Γαδααμ καὶ ἐπάταξαν ἐξ αὐτῶν δισχιλίους ἄνδρας

46 καὶ ἐγένοντο πάντες οἱ πεπτωκότες ἐν τῷ Βενιαμιν εἴκοσι καὶ πέντε χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν σπωμένων ῥομφαίαν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ σὺν πᾶσι τούτοις ἄνδρες δυνατοί

47 καὶ ἐξέκλιναν καὶ ἔφυγον εἰς τὴν ἔρημον πρὸς τὴν πέτραν τὴν Ρεμμων ἑξακόσιοι ἄνδρες καὶ ἐκάθισαν ἐν τῇ πέτρᾳ Ρεμμων τετράμηνον

48 καὶ ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ ἀπέκλεισεν τοὺς υἱοὺς Βενιαμιν καὶ ἐπάταξαν αὐτοὺς ἐν στόματι ῥομφαίας ἀπὸ πόλεως ἑξῆς ἕως κτήνους ἕως παντὸς τοῦ εὑρεθέντος εἰς πάσας τὰς πόλεις καὶ τὰς πόλεις τὰς εὑρεθείσας ἐξαπέστειλαν ἐν πυρί

‎2 ‏וַיִּֽתְיַצְּב֞וּ פִּנּ֣וֹת כָּל־הָעָ֗ם כֹּ֚ל שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בִּקְהַ֖ל עַ֣ם³ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים אַרְבַּ֨ע מֵא֥וֹת אֶ֛לֶף אִ֥ישׁ רַגְלִ֖י שֹׁ֥לֵֽף חָֽרֶב׃ פ

‎3 ‏וַֽיִּשְׁמְעוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֔ן כִּֽי־עָל֥וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הַמִּצְפָּ֑ה וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל דַּבְּר֕וּ אֵיכָ֥ה נִהְיְתָ֖ה הָרָעָ֥ה הַזֹּֽאת׃

‎4 ‏וַיַּ֜עַן הָאִ֣ישׁ הַלֵּוִ֗י אִ֛ישׁ הָאִשָּׁ֥ה הַנִּרְצָחָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר הַגִּבְעָ֙תָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְבִנְיָמִ֔ן בָּ֛אתִי אֲנִ֥י וּפִֽילַגְשִׁ֖י לָלֽוּן׃

‎5 ‏וַיָּקֻ֤מוּ עָלַי֙ בַּעֲלֵ֣י הַגִּבְעָ֔ה וַיָּסֹ֧בּוּ עָלַ֛י אֶת־הַבַּ֖יִת לָ֑יְלָה אוֹתִי֙ דִּמּ֣וּ לַהֲרֹ֔ג וְאֶת־פִּילַגְשִׁ֥י עִנּ֖וּ וַתָּמֹֽת׃

‎6 ‏וָֽאֹחֵ֤ז בְּפִֽילַגְשִׁי֙ וָֽאֲנַתְּחֶ֔הָ וָֽאֲשַׁלְּחֶ֔הָ בְּכָל־שְׂדֵ֖ה נַחֲלַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּ֥י עָשׂ֛וּ זִמָּ֥ה וּנְבָלָ֖ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

‎7 ‏הִנֵּ֥ה כֻלְּכֶ֖ם בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הָב֥וּ לָכֶ֛ם דָּבָ֥ר וְעֵצָ֖ה הֲלֹֽם׃

‎8 ‏וַיָּ֙קָם֙ כָּל־הָעָ֔ם כְּאִ֥ישׁ אֶחָ֖ד לֵאמֹ֑ר לֹ֤א נֵלֵךְ֙ אִ֣ישׁ לְאָהֳל֔וֹ וְלֹ֥א נָס֖וּר אִ֥ישׁ לְבֵיתֽוֹ׃

‎9 ‏וְעַתָּ֕ה זֶ֣ה הַדָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר נַעֲשֶׂ֖ה לַגִּבְעָ֑ה עָלֶ֖יהָ בְּגוֹרָֽל׃

‎10 ‏וְלָקַ֣חְנוּ עֲשָׂרָה֩ אֲנָשִׁ֨ים לַמֵּאָ֜ה לְכֹ֣ל׀ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וּמֵאָ֤ה לָאֶ֙לֶף֙ וְאֶ֣לֶף לָרְבָבָ֔ה לָקַ֥חַת צֵדָ֖ה לָעָ֑ם לַעֲשׂ֗וֹת לְבוֹאָם֙ לְגֶ֣בַע בִּנְיָמִ֔ן כְּכָל־הַ֨נְּבָלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָׂ֖ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

‎11 ‏וַיֵּֽאָסֵ֞ף כָּל־אִ֤ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֶל־הָעִ֔יר כְּאִ֥ישׁ אֶחָ֖ד חֲבֵרִֽים׃ פ

‎12 ‏וַֽיִּשְׁלְח֞וּ שִׁבְטֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֲנָשִׁ֔ים בְּכָל־שִׁבְטֵ֥י בִנְיָמִ֖ן לֵאמֹ֑ר מָ֚ה הָרָעָ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִהְיְתָ֖ה בָּכֶֽם׃

‎13 ‏וְעַתָּ֡ה תְּנוּ֩ אֶת־הָאֲנָשִׁ֨ים בְּנֵֽי־בְלִיַּ֜עַל אֲשֶׁ֤ר בַּגִּבְעָה֙ וּנְמִיתֵ֔ם וּנְבַעֲרָ֥ה רָעָ֖ה מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלֹ֤א אָבוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י^a בִּנְיָמִ֔ן לִשְׁמֹ֕עַ בְּק֖וֹל אֲחֵיהֶ֥ם בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

‎14 ‏וַיֵּאָסְפ֧וּ בְנֵֽי־בִנְיָמִ֛ן מִן־הֶעָרִ֖ים הַגִּבְעָ֑תָה לָצֵ֥את לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה עִם־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

‎15 ‏וַיִּתְפָּֽקְדוּ֩ בְנֵ֨י בִנְיָמִ֜ן בַּיּ֤וֹם הַהוּא֙ מֵהֶ֣עָרִ֔ים עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְשִׁשָּׁ֥ה אֶ֛לֶף אִ֖ישׁ שֹׁ֣לֵֽף חָ֑רֶב לְ֠בַד מִיֹּשְׁבֵ֤י הַגִּבְעָה֙ הִתְפָּ֣קְד֔וּ שְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת אִ֥ישׁ בָּחֽוּר׃

‎16 ‏מִכֹּ֣ל׀ הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֗ה שְׁבַ֤ע מֵאוֹת֙ אִ֣ישׁ בָּח֔וּר אִטֵּ֖ר יַד־יְמִינ֑וֹ כָּל־זֶ֗ה קֹלֵ֧עַ בָּאֶ֛בֶן אֶל־הַֽשַּׂעֲרָ֖ה וְלֹ֥א יַחֲטִֽא׃ פ

‎17 ‏וְאִ֨ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל הִתְפָּֽקְד֗וּ לְבַד֙ מִבִּנְיָמִ֔ן אַרְבַּ֨ע מֵא֥וֹת אֶ֛לֶף אִ֖ישׁ שֹׁ֣לֵֽף חָ֑רֶב כָּל־זֶ֖ה אִ֥ישׁ מִלְחָמָֽה׃

‎18 ‏וַיָּקֻ֜מוּ וַיַּעֲל֣וּ בֵֽית־אֵל֮ וַיִּשְׁאֲל֣וּ בֵאלֹהִים֒ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִ֚י יַעֲלֶה־לָּ֣נוּ בַתְּחִלָּ֔ה לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה עִם־בְּנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֑ן וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה יְהוּדָ֥ה בַתְּחִלָּֽה׃

‎19 ‏וַיָּק֥וּמוּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בַּבֹּ֑קֶר וַיַּֽחֲנ֖וּ עַל־הַגִּבְעָֽה׃ פ

‎20 ‏וַיֵּצֵא֙ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה עִם־בִּנְיָמִ֑ן וַיַּעַרְכ֨וּ אִתָּ֧ם אִֽישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל מִלְחָמָ֖ה אֶל־הַגִּבְעָֽה׃

‎21 ‏וַיֵּצְא֥וּ בְנֵֽי־בִנְיָמִ֖ן מִן־הַגִּבְעָ֑ה וַיַּשְׁחִ֨יתוּ בְיִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא שְׁנַ֨יִם וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים אֶ֛לֶף אִ֖ישׁ אָֽרְצָה׃

‎22 ‏וַיִּתְחַזֵּ֥ק הָעָ֖ם אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיֹּסִ֙פוּ֙ לַעֲרֹ֣ךְ מִלְחָמָ֔ה בַּמָּק֕וֹם אֲשֶׁר־עָ֥רְכוּ שָׁ֖ם בַּיּ֥וֹם הָרִאשֽׁוֹן׃

‎23 ‏וַיַּעֲל֣וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וַיִּבְכּ֣וּ לִפְנֵֽי־יְהוָה֮ עַד־הָעֶרֶב֒ וַיִּשְׁאֲל֤וּ בַֽיהוָה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הַאוֹסִ֗יף לָגֶ֙שֶׁת֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה עִם־בְּנֵ֥י בִנְיָמִ֖ן אָחִ֑י וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה עֲל֥וּ אֵלָֽיו׃ פ

‎24 ‏וַיִּקְרְב֧וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶל־בְּנֵ֥י בִנְיָמִ֖ן בַּיּ֥וֹם הַשֵּׁנִֽי׃

‎25 ‏וַיֵּצֵא֩ בִנְיָמִ֨ן׀ לִקְרָאתָ֥ם׀ מִֽן־הַגִּבְעָה֮ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשֵּׁנִי֒ וַיַּשְׁחִיתוּ֩ בִבְנֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל ע֗וֹד שְׁמֹנַ֨ת עָשָׂ֥ר אֶ֛לֶף אִ֖ישׁ אָ֑רְצָה כָּל־אֵ֖לֶּה שֹׁ֥לְפֵי חָֽרֶב׃

‎26 ‏וַיַּעֲל֣וּ כָל־בְּנֵי֩ יִשְׂרָאֵ֨ל וְכָל־הָעָ֜ם וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ בֵֽית־אֵ֗ל וַיִּבְכּוּ֙ וַיֵּ֤שְׁבוּ שָׁם֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וַיָּצ֥וּמוּ בַיּוֹם־הַה֖וּא עַד־הָעָ֑רֶב וַֽיַּעֲל֛וּ עֹל֥וֹת וּשְׁלָמִ֖ים לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

‎27 ‏וַיִּשְׁאֲל֥וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בַּֽיהוָ֑ה וְשָׁ֗ם אֲרוֹן֙ בְּרִ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים בַּיָּמִ֖ים הָהֵֽם׃

‎28 ‏וּ֠פִינְחָס בֶּן־אֶלְעָזָ֨ר בֶּֽן־אַהֲרֹ֜ן עֹמֵ֣ד׀ לְפָנָ֗יו בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵם֮ לֵאמֹר֒ הַאוֹסִ֨ף ע֜וֹד לָצֵ֧את לַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה עִם־בְּנֵֽי־בִנְיָמִ֥ן אָחִ֖י אִם־אֶחְדָּ֑ל וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ עֲל֔וּ כִּ֥י מָחָ֖ר אֶתְּנֶ֥נּוּ בְיָדֶֽךָ׃

‎29 ‏וַיָּ֤שֶׂם יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֹֽרְבִ֔ים אֶל־הַגִּבְעָ֖ה סָבִֽיב׃ פ

‎30 ‏וַיַּעֲל֧וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶל־בְּנֵ֥י בִנְיָמִ֖ן בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י וַיַּעַרְכ֥וּ אֶל־הַגִּבְעָ֖ה כְּפַ֥עַם בְּפָֽעַם׃

‎31 ‏וַיֵּצְא֤וּ בְנֵֽי־בִנְיָמִן֙ לִקְרַ֣את הָעָ֔ם הָנְתְּק֖וּ מִן־הָעִ֑יר וַיָּחֵ֡לּוּ לְהַכּוֹת֩ מֵהָעָ֨ם חֲלָלִ֜ים כְּפַ֣עַם׀ בְּפַ֗עַם בַּֽמְסִלּוֹת֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר אַחַ֜ת עֹלָ֣ה בֵֽית־אֵ֗ל וְאַחַ֤ת גִּבְעָ֙תָה֙ בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה כִּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים אִ֖ישׁ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

‎32 ‏וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֔ן נִגָּפִ֥ים הֵ֛ם לְפָנֵ֖ינוּ כְּבָרִאשֹׁנָ֑ה וּבְנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל אָמְר֗וּ נָנ֙וּסָה֙ וּֽנְתַקְּנֻ֔הוּ מִן־הָעִ֖יר אֶל־הַֽמְסִלּֽוֹת׃

‎33 ‏וְכֹ֣ל׀ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל קָ֚מוּ מִמְּקוֹמ֔וֹ וַיַּעַרְכ֖וּ בְּבַ֣עַל תָּמָ֑ר וְאֹרֵ֧ב יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל מֵגִ֥יחַ מִמְּקֹמ֖וֹ מִמַּֽעֲרֵה־גָֽבַע׃

‎34 ‏וַיָּבֹאוּ֩ מִנֶּ֨גֶד לַגִּבְעָ֜ה עֲשֶׂרֶת֩ אֲלָפִ֨ים אִ֤ישׁ בָּחוּר֙ מִכָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְהַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה כָּבֵ֑דָה וְהֵם֙ לֹ֣א יָדְע֔וּ כִּֽי־נֹגַ֥עַת עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם הָרָעָֽה׃ פ

‎35 ‏וַיִּגֹּ֨ף³ יְהוָ֥ה׀ אֶֽת־בִּנְיָמִן֮ לִפְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַיַּשְׁחִיתוּ֩ בְנֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל בְּבִנְיָמִן֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וַחֲמִשָּׁ֥ה אֶ֛לֶף וּמֵאָ֖ה אִ֑ישׁ כָּל־אֵ֖לֶּה שֹׁ֥לֵף חָֽרֶב׃

‎36 ‏וַיִּרְא֥וּ בְנֵֽי־בִנְיָמִ֖ן כִּ֣י נִגָּ֑פוּ וַיִּתְּנ֨וּ אִֽישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל מָקוֹם֙ לְבִנְיָמִ֔ן כִּ֤י בָֽטְחוּ֙ אֶל־הָ֣אֹרֵ֔ב אֲשֶׁר שָׂ֖מוּ אֶל־הַגִּבְעָֽה׃

‎37 ‏וְהָאֹרֵ֣ב הֵחִ֔ישׁוּ וַֽיִּפְשְׁט֖וּ אֶל־הַגִּבְעָ֑ה וַיִּמְשֹׁךְ֙ הָאֹרֵ֔ב וַיַּ֥ךְ אֶת־כָּל־הָעִ֖יר לְפִי־חָֽרֶב׃

‎38 ‏וְהַמּוֹעֵ֗ד הָיָ֛ה לְאִ֥ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עִם־הָאֹרֵ֑ב הֶ֕רֶב לְהַעֲלוֹתָ֛ם מַשְׂאַ֥ת הֶעָשָׁ֖ן מִן־הָעִֽיר׃

‎39 ‏וַיַּהֲפֹ֥ךְ אִֽישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וּבִנְיָמִ֡ן הֵחֵל֩ לְהַכּ֨וֹת חֲלָלִ֤ים בְּאִֽישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ כִּשְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים אִ֔ישׁ כִּ֣י אָמְר֔וּ אַךְ֩ נִגּ֨וֹף נִגָּ֥ף הוּא֙ לְפָנֵ֔ינוּ כַּמִּלְחָמָ֖ה הָרִאשֹׁנָֽה׃

‎40 ‏וְהַמַּשְׂאֵ֗ת הֵחֵ֛לָּה לַעֲל֥וֹת מִן־הָעִ֖יר עַמּ֣וּד עָשָׁ֑ן וַיִּ֤פֶן בִּנְיָמִן֙ אַחֲרָ֔יו וְהִנֵּ֛ה עָלָ֥ה כְלִיל־הָעִ֖יר הַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה׃

‎41 ‏וְאִ֤ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ הָפַ֔ךְ וַיִּבָּהֵ֖ל אִ֣ישׁ בִּנְיָמִ֑ן כִּ֣י רָאָ֔ה כִּֽי־נָגְעָ֥ה עָלָ֖יו הָרָעָֽה׃

‎42 ‏וַיִּפְנ֞וּ לִפְנֵ֨י אִ֤ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֶל־דֶּ֣רֶךְ הַמִּדְבָּ֔ר וְהַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה הִדְבִּיקָ֑תְהוּ וַאֲשֶׁר֙ מֵהֶ֣עָרִ֔ים מַשְׁחִיתִ֥ים אוֹת֖וֹ בְּתוֹכֽוֹ׃

‎43 ‏כִּתְּר֤וּ אֶת־בִּנְיָמִן֙ הִרְדִיפֻ֔הוּ מְנוּחָ֖ה הִדְרִיכֻ֑הוּ עַ֛ד נֹ֥כַח הַגִּבְעָ֖ה מִמִּזְרַח־שָֽׁמֶשׁ׃

‎44 ‏וַֽיִּפְּלוּ֙ מִבִּנְיָמִ֔ן שְׁמֹנָֽה־עָשָׂ֥ר אֶ֖לֶף אִ֑ישׁ אֶת־כָּל־אֵ֖לֶּה אַנְשֵׁי־חָֽיִל׃

‎45 ‏וַיִּפְנ֞וּ וַיָּנֻ֤סוּ הַמִּדְבָּ֙רָה֙ אֶל־סֶ֣לַע הָֽרִמּ֔וֹן וַיְעֹֽלְלֻ֙הוּ֙ בַּֽמְסִלּ֔וֹת חֲמֵ֥שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֖ים אִ֑ישׁ וַיַּדְבִּ֤יקוּ אַחֲרָיו֙ עַד־גִּדְעֹ֔ם וַיַּכּ֥וּ מִמֶּ֖נּוּ אַלְפַּ֥יִם אִֽישׁ׃

‎46 ‏וַיְהִי֩ כָל־הַנֹּ֨פְלִ֜ים מִבִּנְיָמִ֗ן עֶשְׂרִים֩ וַחֲמִשָּׁ֨ה אֶ֥לֶף אִ֛ישׁ שֹׁ֥לֵֽף חֶ֖רֶב בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא אֶֽת־כָּל־אֵ֖לֶּה אַנְשֵׁי־חָֽיִל׃

‎47 ‏וַיִּפְנ֞וּ וַיָּנֻ֤סוּ הַמִּדְבָּ֙רָה֙ אֶל־סֶ֣לַע הָֽרִמּ֔וֹן שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת אִ֑ישׁ וַיֵּֽשְׁבוּ֙ בְּסֶ֣לַע רִמּ֔וֹן אַרְבָּעָ֖ה חֳדָשִֽׁים׃

‎48 ‏וְאִ֨ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל שָׁ֣בוּ אֶל־בְּנֵ֤י בִנְיָמִן֙ וַיַּכּ֣וּם לְפִי־חֶ֔רֶב מֵעִ֤יר מְתֹם֙ עַד־בְּהֵמָ֔ה עַ֖ד כָּל־הַנִּמְצָ֑א גַּ֛ם כָּל־הֶעָרִ֥ים הַנִּמְצָא֖וֹת שִׁלְּח֥וּ בָאֵֽשׁ׃ פ

Vul

1 Egressi itaque sunt omnes filii Israël, et pariter congregati, quasi vir unus, de Dan usque Bersabee, et terra Galaad, ad Dominum in Maspha.

2 Omnesque anguli populorum, et cunctæ tribus Israël in ecclesiam populi Dei convenerunt, quadringenta millia peditum pugnatorum.

3 (Nec latuit filios Benjamin quod ascendissent filii Israël in Maspha.) Interrogatusque Levita, maritus mulieris interfectæ, quomodo tantum scelus perpetratum esset,

4 respondit: Veni in Gabaa Benjamin cum uxore mea, illucque diverti:

5 et ecce homines civitatis illius circumdederunt nocte domum in qua manebam, volentes me occidere, et uxorem meam incredibili furore libidinis vexantes, denique mortua est.

6 Quam arreptam, in frustra concidi, misique partes in omnes terminos possessionis vestræ: quia numquam tantum nefas, et tam grande piaculum, factum est in Israël.

7 Adestis, omnes filii Israël: decernite quid facere debeatis.

8 Stansque omnis populus, quasi unius hominis sermone respondit: Non recedemus in tabernacula nostra, nec suam quisquam intrabit domum:

9 sed hoc contra Gabaa in commune faciamus.

10 Decem viri eligantur e centum ex omnibus tribubus Israël, et centum de mille, et mille de decem millibus, ut comportent exercitui cibaria, et possimus pugnare contra Gabaa Benjamin, et reddere ei pro scelere, quod meretur.

11 Convenitque universus Israël ad civitatem, quasi homo unus eadem mente, unoque consilio.

12 Et miserunt nuntios ad omnem tribum Benjamin, qui dicerent: Cur tantum nefas in vobis repertum est?

13 Tradite homines de Gabaa, qui hoc flagitium perpetrarunt, ut moriantur, et auferatur malum de Israël. Qui noluerunt fratrum suorum filiorum Israël audire mandatum:

14 sed ex cunctis urbibus, quæ sortis suæ erant, convenerunt in Gabaa, ut illis ferrent auxilium, et contra universum populum Israël dimicarent.

15 Inventique sunt viginti quinque millia de Benjamin educentium gladium, præter habitatores Gabaa,

16 qui septingenti erant viri fortissimi, ita sinistra ut dextra præliantes: et sic fundis lapides ad certum jacientes, ut capillum quoque possent percutere, et nequaquam in alteram partem ictus lapidis deferretur.

17 Virorum quoque Israël, absque filiis Benjamin, inventa sunt quadringenta millia educentium gladium, et paratorum ad pugnam.

18 Qui surgentes venerunt in domum Dei, hoc est, in Silo: consulueruntque Deum, atque dixerunt: Quis erit in exercitu nostro princeps certaminis contra filios Benjamin? Quibus respondit Dominus: Judas sit dux vester.

19 Statimque filii Israël surgentes mane, castrametati sunt juxta Gabaa:

20 et inde procedentes ad pugnam contra Benjamin, urbem oppugnare cœperunt.

21 Egressique filii Benjamin de Gabaa, occiderunt de filiis Israël die illo viginti duo millia virorum.

22 Rursum filii Israël et fortitudine et numero confidentes, in eodem loco in quo prius certaverant, aciem direxerunt:

23 ita tamen ut prius ascenderent et flerent coram Domino usque ad noctem, consulerentque eum, et dicerent: Debeo ultra procedere ad dimicandum contra filios Benjamin fratres meos, an non? Quibus ille respondit: Ascendite ad eos, et inite certamen.

24 Cumque filii Israël altera die contra filios Benjamin ad prælium processissent,

25 eruperunt filii Benjamin de portis Gabaa: et occurrentes eis tanta in illos cæde bacchati sunt, ut decem et octo millia virorum educentium gladium prosternerent.

26 Quam ob rem omnes filii Israël venerunt in domum Dei, et sedentes flebant coram Domino: jejunaveruntque die illo usque ad vesperam, et obtulerunt ei holocausta, atque pacificas victimas,

27 et super statu suo interrogaverunt. Eo tempore ibi erat arca fœderis Dei,

28 et Phinees filius Eleazari filii Aaron præpositus domus. Consuluerunt igitur Dominum, atque dixerunt: Exire ultra debemus ad pugnam contra filios Benjamin fratres nostros, an quiescere? Quibus ait Dominus: Ascendite: cras enim tradam eos in manus vestras.

29 Posueruntque filii Israël insidias per circuitum urbis Gabaa:

30 et tertia vice, sicut semel et bis, contra Benjamin exercitum produxerunt.

31 Sed et filii Benjamin audacter eruperunt de civitate, et fugientes adversarios longius persecuti sunt, ita ut vulnerarent ex eis sicut primo die et secundo, et cæderent per duas semitas vertentes terga, quarum una ferebatur in Bethel et altera in Gabaa, atque prosternerent triginta circiter viros:

32 putaverunt enim solito eos more cedere. Qui fugam arte simulantes inierunt consilium ut abstraherent eos de civitate, et quasi fugientes ad supradictas semitas perducerent.

33 Omnes itaque filii Israël surgentes de sedibus suis, tetenderunt aciem in loco qui vocatur Baalthamar. Insidiæ quoque, quæ circa urbem erant, paulatim se aperire cœperunt,

34 et ab occidentali urbis parte procedere. Sed et alia decem millia virorum de universo Israël, habitatores urbis ad certamina provocabant. Ingravatumque est bellum contra filios Benjamin: et non intellexerunt quod ex omni parte illis instaret interitus.

35 Percussitque eos Dominus in conspectu filiorum Israël, et interfecerunt ex eis in illo die viginti quinque millia, et centum viros, omnes bellatores et educentes gladium.

36 Filii autem Benjamin cum se inferiores esse vidissent, cœperunt fugere. Quod cernentes filii Israël, dederunt eis ad fugiendum locum, ut ad præparatas insidias devenirent, quas juxta urbem posuerant.

37 Qui cum repente de latibulis surrexissent, et Benjamin terga cædentibus daret, ingressi sunt civitatem, et percusserunt eam in ore gladii.

38 Signum autem dederant filii Israël his quos in insidiis collocaverant, ut postquam urbem cepissent, ignem accenderent: ut ascendente in altum fumo, captam urbem demonstrarent.

39 Quod cum cernerent filii Israël in ipso certamine positi (putaverunt enim filii Benjamin eos fugere, et instantius persequebantur, cæsis de exercitu eorum triginta viris),

40 et viderent quasi columnam fumi de civitate conscendere: Benjamin quoque aspiciens retro, cum captam cerneret civitatem, et flammas in sublime ferri:

41 qui prius simulaverant fugam, versa facie fortius resistebant. Quod cum vidissent filii Benjamin, in fugam versi sunt,

42 et ad viam deserti ire cœperunt, illuc quoque eos adversariis persequentibus: sed et hi qui urbem succenderant, occurrerunt eis.

43 Atque ita factum est, ut ex utraque parte ab hostibus cæderentur, nec erat ulla requies morientium. Ceciderunt, atque prostrati sunt ad orientalem plagam urbis Gabaa.

44 Fuerunt autem qui in eodem loco interfecti sunt, decem et octo millia virorum, omnes robustissimi pugnatores.

45 Quod cum vidissent qui remanserant de Benjamin, fugerunt in solitudinem: et pergebant ad petram, cujus vocabulum est Remmon. In illa quoque fuga palantes, et in diversa tendentes, occiderunt quinque millia virorum. Et cum ultra tenderent, persecuti sunt eos, et interfecerunt etiam alia duo millia.

46 Et sic factum est, ut omnes qui ceciderant de Benjamin in diversis locis essent viginti quinque millia pugnatores ad bella promptissimi.

47 Remanserunt itaque de omni numero Benjamin, qui evadere et fugere in solitudinem potuerunt, sexcenti viri: sederuntque in petra Remmon mensibus quatuor.

48 Regressi autem filii Israël, omnes reliquias civitatis a viris usque ad jumenta gladio percusserunt, cunctasque urbes et viculos Benjamin vorax flamma consumpsit.
