1  Woe¹⁹⁴⁵ to them that go down³³⁸¹ to Egypt⁴⁷¹⁴ for help;⁵⁸³³ and stay⁸¹⁷² on⁵⁹²¹ horses,⁵⁴⁸³ and trust⁹⁸² in⁵⁹²¹ chariots,⁷³⁹³ because³⁵⁸⁸ they are many;⁷²²⁷ and in⁵⁹²¹ horsemen,⁶⁵⁷¹ because³⁵⁸⁸ they are very strong;^{6105 3966} but they look⁸¹⁵⁹ not³⁸⁰⁸ unto⁵⁹²¹ the Holy One⁶⁹¹⁸ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ neither³⁸⁰⁸ seek¹⁸⁷⁵ the LORD!³⁰⁶⁸

2  Yet he¹⁹³¹ also¹⁵⁷¹ is wise,²⁴⁵⁰ and will bring⁹³⁵ evil,⁷⁴⁵¹ and will not³⁸⁰⁸ call back⁵⁴⁹³ his words:¹⁶⁹⁷ but will arise⁶⁹⁶⁵ against⁵⁹²¹ the house¹⁰⁰⁴ of the evildoers,⁷⁴⁸⁹ and against⁵⁹²¹ the help⁵⁸³³ of them that work⁶⁴⁶⁶ iniquity.²⁰⁵

3  Now the Egyptians⁴⁷¹⁴ are men,¹²⁰ and not³⁸⁰⁸ God;⁴¹⁰ and their horses⁵⁴⁸³ flesh,¹³²⁰ and not³⁸⁰⁸ spirit.⁷³⁰⁷ When the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ shall stretch out⁵¹⁸⁶ his hand,³⁰²⁷ both he that helpeth⁵⁸²⁶ shall fall,³⁷⁸² and he that is helped⁵⁸²⁶ shall fall down,⁵³⁰⁷ and they all³⁶⁰⁵ shall fail³⁶¹⁵ together.³¹⁶²

4  For³⁵⁸⁸ thus³⁵⁴¹ hath the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ spoken⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ me, Like as⁸³⁴ the lion⁷³⁸ and the young lion³⁷¹⁵ roaring¹⁸⁹⁷ on⁵⁹²¹ his prey,²⁹⁶⁴ when⁸³⁴ a multitude⁴³⁹³ of shepherds⁷⁴⁶² is called forth⁷¹²¹ against⁵⁹²¹ him, he will not³⁸⁰⁸ be afraid²⁸⁶⁵ of their voice,^{4480 6963} nor³⁸⁰⁸ abase⁶⁰³¹ himself for the noise^{4480 1995} of them: so³⁶⁵¹ shall the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ of hosts⁶⁶³⁵ come down³³⁸¹ to fight⁶⁶³³ for⁵⁹²¹ mount²⁰²² Zion,⁶⁷²⁶ and for⁵⁹²¹ the hill¹³⁸⁹ thereof.

5  As birds⁶⁸³³ flying,⁵⁷⁷⁴ so³⁶⁵¹ will the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ of hosts⁶⁶³⁵ defend^{1598 5921} Jerusalem;³³⁸⁹ defending¹⁵⁹⁸ also he will deliver⁵³³⁷ it; and passing over⁶⁴⁵² he will preserve⁴⁴²² it.

6  Turn⁷⁷²⁵ ye unto him from whom⁸³⁴ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ have deeply⁶⁰⁰⁹ revolted.⁵⁶²⁷

7  For³⁵⁸⁸ in that¹⁹³¹ day³¹¹⁷ every man³⁷⁶ shall cast away³⁹⁸⁸ his idols⁴⁵⁷ of silver,³⁷⁰¹ and his idols⁴⁵⁷ of gold,²⁰⁹¹ which⁸³⁴ your own hands³⁰²⁷ have made⁶²¹³ unto you for a sin.²³⁹⁹

8  Then shall the Assyrian⁸⁰⁴ fall⁵³⁰⁷ with the sword,²⁷¹⁹ not³⁸⁰⁸ of a mighty man;³⁷⁶ and the sword,²⁷¹⁹ not³⁸⁰⁸ of a mean man,¹²⁰ shall devour³⁹⁸ him: but he shall flee⁵¹²⁷ from^{4480 6440} the sword,²⁷¹⁹ and his young men⁹⁷⁰ shall be¹⁹⁶¹ discomfited.⁴⁵²²

9  And he shall pass over⁵⁶⁷⁴ to his stronghold⁵⁵⁵³ for fear,^{4480 4032} and his princes⁸²⁶⁹ shall be afraid²⁸⁶⁵ of the ensign,^{4480 5251} saith⁵⁰⁰² the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ whose⁸³⁴ fire²¹⁷ is in Zion,⁶⁷²⁶ and his furnace⁸⁵⁷⁴ in Jerusalem.³³⁸⁹

1 οὐαὶ οἱ καταβαίνοντες εἰς Αἴγυπτον ἐπὶ βοήθειαν οἱ ἐφ᾽ ἵπποις πεποιθότες καὶ ἐφ᾽ ἅρμασιν ἔστιν γὰρ πολλά καὶ ἐφ᾽ ἵπποις πλῆθος σφόδρα καὶ οὐκ ἦσαν πεποιθότες ἐπὶ τὸν ἅγιον τοῦ Ισραηλ καὶ τὸν θεὸν οὐκ ἐξεζήτησαν

2 καὶ αὐτὸς σοφὸς ἦγεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς κακά καὶ ὁ λόγος αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ ἀθετηθῇ καὶ ἐπαναστήσεται ἐπ᾽ οἴκους ἀνθρώπων πονηρῶν καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν ἐλπίδα αὐτῶν τὴν ματαίαν

3 Αἰγύπτιον ἄνθρωπον καὶ οὐ θεόν ἵππων σάρκας καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν βοήθεια ὁ δὲ κύριος ἐπάξει τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ ἐπ᾽ αὐτούς καὶ κοπιάσουσιν οἱ βοηθοῦντες καὶ ἅμα πάντες ἀπολοῦνται

4 ὅτι οὕτως εἶπέν μοι κύριος ὃν τρόπον ἐὰν βοήσῃ ὁ λέων ἢ ὁ σκύμνος ἐπὶ τῇ θήρᾳ ᾗ ἔλαβεν καὶ κεκράξῃ ἐπ᾽ αὐτῇ ἕως ἂν ἐμπλησθῇ τὰ ὄρη τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡττήθησαν καὶ τὸ πλῆθος τοῦ θυμοῦ ἐπτοήθησαν οὕτως καταβήσεται κύριος σαβαωθ ἐπιστρατεῦσαι ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος τὸ Σιων ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη αὐτῆς

5 ὡς ὄρνεα πετόμενα οὕτως ὑπερασπιεῖ κύριος ὑπὲρ Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἐξελεῖται καὶ περιποιήσεται καὶ σώσει

6 ἐπιστράφητε οἱ τὴν βαθεῖαν βουλὴν βουλευόμενοι καὶ ἄνομον

7 ὅτι τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἀπαρνήσονται οἱ ἄνθρωποι τὰ χειροποίητα αὐτῶν τὰ ἀργυρᾶ καὶ τὰ χρυσᾶ ἃ ἐποίησαν αἱ χεῖρες αὐτῶν

8 καὶ πεσεῖται Ασσουρ οὐ μάχαιρα ἀνδρὸς οὐδὲ μάχαιρα ἀνθρώπου καταφάγεται αὐτόν καὶ φεύξεται οὐκ ἀπὸ προσώπου μαχαίρας οἱ δὲ νεανίσκοι ἔσονται εἰς ἥττημα

9 πέτρᾳ γὰρ περιλημφθήσονται ὡς χάρακι καὶ ἡττηθήσονται ὁ δὲ φεύγων ἁλώσεται τάδε λέγει κύριος μακάριος ὃς ἔχει ἐν Σιων σπέρμα καὶ οἰκείους ἐν Ιερουσαλημ

‎1 ‏ה֣וֹי הַיֹּרְדִ֤ים מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ לְעֶזְרָ֔ה עַל־סוּסִ֖ים יִשָּׁעֵ֑נוּ וַיִּבְטְח֨וּ עַל־רֶ֜כֶב כִּ֣י רָ֗ב וְעַ֤ל פָּֽרָשִׁים֙ כִּֽי־עָצְמ֣וּ מְאֹ֔ד וְלֹ֤א שָׁעוּ֙ עַל־קְד֣וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאֶת־יְהוָ֖ה לֹ֥א דָרָֽשׁוּ׃

‎2 ‏וְגַם־ה֤וּא חָכָם֙ וַיָּ֣בֵא רָ֔ע וְאֶת־דְּבָרָ֖יו לֹ֣א הֵסִ֑יר וְקָם֙ עַל־בֵּ֣ית מְרֵעִ֔ים וְעַל־עֶזְרַ֖ת פֹּ֥עֲלֵי אָֽוֶן׃

‎3 ‏וּמִצְרַ֤יִם אָדָם֙ וְֽלֹא־אֵ֔ל וְסוּסֵיהֶ֥ם בָּשָׂ֖ר וְלֹא־ר֑וּחַ וַֽיהוָ֞ה יַטֶּ֣ה יָד֗וֹ וְכָשַׁ֤ל עוֹזֵר֙ וְנָפַ֣ל עָזֻ֔ר וְיַחְדָּ֖ו כֻּלָּ֥ם יִכְלָיֽוּן׃ ס

‎4 ‏כִּ֣י כֹ֣ה אָֽמַר־יְהוָ֣ה׀ אֵלַ֡י כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר יֶהְגֶּה֩ הָאַרְיֵ֨ה וְהַכְּפִ֜יר עַל־טַרְפּ֗וֹ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִקָּרֵ֤א עָלָיו֙ מְלֹ֣א רֹעִ֔ים מִקּוֹלָם֙ לֹ֣א יֵחָ֔ת וּמֵֽהֲמוֹנָ֖ם לֹ֣א יַֽעֲנֶ֑ה כֵּ֗ן יֵרֵד֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת לִצְבֹּ֥א עַל־הַר־צִיּ֖וֹן וְעַל־גִּבְעָתָֽהּ׃

‎5 ‏כְּצִפֳּרִ֣ים עָפ֔וֹת כֵּ֗ן יָגֵ֛ן יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת עַל־יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם גָּנ֥וֹן וְהִצִּ֖יל פָּסֹ֥חַ וְהִמְלִֽיט׃

‎6 ‏שׁ֗וּבוּ לַאֲשֶׁ֛ר הֶעְמִ֥יקוּ סָרָ֖ה בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

‎7 ‏כִּ֚י בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא יִמְאָס֗וּן אִ֚ישׁ אֱלִילֵ֣י כַסְפּ֔וֹ וֶאֱלִילֵ֖י זְהָב֑וֹ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשׂ֥וּ לָכֶ֛ם יְדֵיכֶ֖ם חֵֽטְא׃

‎8 ‏וְנָפַ֤ל אַשּׁוּר֙ בְּחֶ֣רֶב לֹא־אִ֔ישׁ וְחֶ֥רֶב לֹֽא־אָדָ֖ם תֹּֽאכֲלֶ֑נּוּ וְנָ֥ס לוֹ֙ מִפְּנֵי־חֶ֔רֶב וּבַחוּרָ֖יו לָמַ֥ס יִהְיֽוּ׃

‎9 ‏וְסַלְעוֹ֙ מִמָּג֣וֹר יַֽעֲב֔וֹר וְחַתּ֥וּ מִנֵּ֖ס שָׂרָ֑יו נְאֻם־יְהוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁר־א֥וּר לוֹ֙ בְּצִיּ֔וֹן וְתַנּ֥וּר ל֖וֹ בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ ס

Vul

1 [Væ qui descendunt in Ægyptum ad auxilium,
in equis sperantes,
et habentes fiduciam super quadrigis, quia multæ sunt;
et super equitibus, quia prævalidi nimis;
et non sunt confisi super Sanctum Israël,
et Dominum non requisierunt!

2 Ipse autem sapiens adduxit malum,
et verba sua non abstulit;
et consurget contra domum pessimorum,
et contra auxilium operantium iniquitatem.

3 Ægyptus homo, et non deus;
et equi eorum caro, et non spiritus;
et Dominus inclinabit manum suam,
et corruet auxiliator, et cadet cui præstatur auxilium,
simulque omnes consumentur.

4 Quia hæc dicit Dominus ad me:
Quomodo si rugiat leo
et catulus leonis super prædam suam;
et cum occurrerit ei multitudo pastorum,
a voce eorum non formidabit,
et a multitudine eorum non pavebit:
sic descendet Dominus exercituum ut prælietur
super montem Sion et super collem ejus.

5 Sicut aves volantes,
sic proteget Dominus exercituum Jerusalem,
protegens et liberans, transiens et salvans.

6 Convertimini, sicut in profundum recesseratis,
filii Israël.

7 In die enim illa abjiciet vir
idola argenti sui, et idola auri sui,
quæ fecerunt vobis manus vestræ in peccatum.

8 Et cadet Assur in gladio non viri,
et gladius non hominis vorabit eum:
et fugiet non a facie gladii,
et juvenes ejus vectigales erunt.

9 Et fortitudo ejus a terrore transibit,
et pavebunt fugientes principes ejus,
dixit Dominus: cujus ignis est in Sion
et caminus ejus in Jerusalem.]
